I am myself both Colombian and US citizen. Paisas feel extremely offended with gringos (as they call US an european foreigners regardless of their national origin) as they are an essential part of the chain of human commerce in Parque Lleras. Paisas from all estratos have among them one thing in common, they all think that the prepago's in Parque Lleras are the result of the demand by foreign clients. They know from the past that no paisa will venture into offer or ask for sexual services in such a landmark..
I find this interesting and appreciate your contribution and insight. I don't like to see Parque Lleras overrun with aggressive working girls and I enjoy it more when the crack downs are in force.

I'm very sorry about what happened. I am relieved you were not physically harmed. In the interest of helping the rest of us avoid this kind of problem, would you please explain what you meant when you said you were "just across the street from the crowd" when it happened? I suspect you mean you were in the area of the corner nearest the back of the museum. The other corners are normally crowded, especially at 5 pm. Maybe the thought was the uber would be able to find you more easily if you were away from the crowd? The advice about Centro safety that you see on this boards that is very helpful is that it is generally safe where there are crowds and unsafe where there are no crowds. Again, in the interest of helping the rest of us avoid what happened to you, what was it you were doing before you called for an uber, and where were you doing it? For some reason I think I am missing part of the story.
4-15-17 around 5 p. Standing at the corner of Calle 52 and Carrera 53, I pulled my phone out for 30 seconds to call an Uber then put it immediately away. I was just across the street from the crowd when three guys pulled knives and said something like 'We get the phone or you get the knife. " Handed him the phone and they walked off slowly, didn't even run, up Calle 52 into the crowd. I'm guessing right now they're just stupid guys who think it's a game, but that's a pretty slippery slope.
The girls seemed really unhappy about it, I've never seen so many kind looks in Medellin. It's a $250 loss for the phone, but it's more of a huge inconvenience for the loss of the data and uber ect. I would have bought all three of them phones if they really needed them bad enough to kill for. I probably dropped $1 k over the last two weeks on this road, but I guess I won't be going here again. Not because I'm scared, next time I'll get uber straight from the middle. I will be avoiding this area because it's unprofessional for these businesses to tolerate this type of behavior. In Tijuana, Bangkok, Pattaya, Shenzhen, and everywhere else I was told by many bar owners that pick pockets are around but that anyone who mugged a tourist would be punished. Business owners understand that a one time rip-off of $250 is not worth the loss of tens of thousands in future revenue.
If any of you know the bosses of this area, I'd advise them to interview the people standing around yesterday a 4-15-17 around 5 p, figure out who the boys are, and give them a beating before they do something everyone will regret and kills a tourist in broad daylight. Think about the police crack down that would be caused by that.
It is primarily frequented by both Colombian and foreign clients alike that are looking for very young providers. It is also a pretty sketchy area. You were likely targeted for a combination of reasons. You looked obviously out of place, and the philosophy of 'there are no legitimate victims on the Vera Cruz' applied. Meaning few locals would report a crime that happened there for fear of embarrassment, and few people would feel sorry for a foreigner experiencing a crime there. My advise would be to play in safer areas.

These prepagos are a direct result of tourism in the area. Frankly, I'm quite happy the cops have cleaned up the park recently. Yes, I'm a little embarrassed as a First Worlder that my people are trying to turn Lleras into Coachella, but having a bunch of under the limit working girls and trannies cruising the park for the last year was all too controllable by the local police. At any time, as they finally did recently, they could have swept the park of this menace. They chose instead to allow the low end street scene to take over, and instead target the gringos that interact with them.

Only extranjeros
They get away with those rip-offs from time to time. The Mamasan told me that all clients are extranjeros that only stay maybe one day to max a week, the majority, 1-3 days, especially during to big fashion expositions and other events that made Lindas Chicas to a extranjero place. Quality is very high though and knowing a good place, safe a lot of frustrating time looking for other places if you are on a work schedule.
The best sex I have have had has often been with amigas. And they have often themselves taken the initiative. Get a few good looking amigas before the trip. They love partying and sex. Demanding nothing, or a tip / propina for "pay a bill", usually 100-150 can occur, but that is more that many girls don't have any money at all.
Kickboxer wrote some time ago that he could be a "wing-man" to take you to all the non-pro places, where the many of the more often English speaking 9's and 10's are, but of course also the male elite.
Medellin is very discreet compared to Cartagena, Panama, Del Rey etc. The word says that in the best clubs in other cities in Colombia, Panama and Costa Rica, even Mexico and L. A. , paisas are hugely over represented.
Stopped by Linda's Chicas around 4:30, no girls told to come back at 7, came back two girls one is busy doing a ST neither are my type. Linda and Nancy tell to wait, so I wait and wait for three hours, linda keeps saying there is a holiday and all the girls are being lazy. Finally one girl shows, very pretty but tons of makeup and strange energy, also her boyfriend is standing nearby glaring at me when no one is looking. (WTF?) Negotiate price of 200,000 per day plus 150,000 for leaving. When we go to leave, they say the girl gets 400,000 per day, I'm shocked, as 750,000 seems crazy high. I change the plan from one week to just one day.
Experience with girl is very strange, stays away from me in room until I sweet talk her and we discuss her partying and makeup tips, but guys without spanish will definitely hit a wall and that is..
Parque LLeras
I am myself both Colombian and US citizen. They know from the past that no paisa will venture into offer or ask for sexual services in such a landmark..
It must be a new thing. I have never had any experience of sextrade in Parque Lleras. It's La Zona Rosa, you go there to party. If you want to buy sex or sell sex, there are other places. The remark " Paisas feel extremely offended with gringos in Parque Lleras". I have ever felt that. We have enjoyed restaurants, she suggested on my very first visit, the famous and central located "Al Rojo", and while waiting for her, a Colombian company at the table next to me invited me to chat until she finally shows up (paisas are many things, but you need to learn to wait, often and long frustrating whiles, until you have accepted this cultural pattern, and as a good effect of that is that you generally becomes more patient.) And one was of the persons in that company was a model (real model) moving to work in Madrid and was out for a late dinner with her mother and two men, whom all where surprised that I spoke Castellano and where I came from etc.
I don't like Parque Lleras that much, it's artificial. Maybe from time to time. Paisa-friends also told me that there are so much new rich people in Poblado, with incomes from dubious business, so the once original respected families started to move away, to other barrios, one is St. Theresia in Laureles, to Rio Negro etc.
My experience is that young paisas party with young men, for fun. And more mature people enjoy the restaurants and bars.

I'm sad to hear you lost your phone but relieved that you were unharmed. I've lived in Colombia for two years and visited many cities over the years and though its relatively safe, when the violence comes; it comes fast and deadly. Just my experience. The older white guys here who like to monger around Calle 52 & Carrera 53 or the other spots are absolutely out of their minds. I've found another new stunning beauty who will stay with me virtually all day for 150 mil. I can trust her around all my electronics at my apartment. What do you gain by bottom feeding? Just to say you fucked a desperate person for 60 mil in a moldy hotel? And you are in fact putting your life at risk. I've been seeing my share of girls here in Medellin and I always ask them about the street action in El Centro. They look at me like I'm stupid & crazy at the same time to consider going there. The hood and its crack and working girls are for the locals gangstas. If the average monger from this website goes to either place he doesn't belong there and will be treated as such by the locals and he will probably have a really bad experience. So why do that here in Medellin? I have no idea why.
Medellin update part II.
I found Tinder is for girls who want crazy stupid money or try to get naive men to send them money and unfortunately there are mongers who throw money around and enable them. Not in my budget. I use pretty much: photoprepagos.com & co. mileroticos.com. I do spend time searching and weeding out and I've found two regulars who are stunning & sweet and I give them 150 mil for two hours and they will stay longer willingly. But like any monger in Medellin, my "little buddy" runs the show. So I went back to looking for fresh girls and I found what I though was a nice & sweet one. She made me wait for three hours with the usual "estoy en camino" bullshit and then when she said she arrived she wasn't anywhere near my house. She then told me she's in the nearby park, but would answer my whatsapp chat like three minutes late. I live directly off a main street so Helen Keller could find my place. Well, I walked to the park since it is close to me, no chica. I kept messaging her, then I saw a police car arrive at the park. I told her I'm going back to my house and she told me to go back to the park to meet her, she sent me a google map of the park and told me she is there. Well, it was 1:00 am and even though it was Parqe Lleras my Spider-sense told me to go home. I immediately blocked her number from whatsapp. Her ad was legit from photosprepago so perhaps she was coked out or really drunk. Whatever. Total shit experience. However 6 hours earlier I had the nicest time with another chica from the same website. This reminds me of an expression that salesmen live by:
SWSWSWN: Some will, some won't, so what, next!
Got to keep digging and mining through the resources. Even though this is Colombia, a good & sweet girl will not just walk into you in the street, but they are definitely out there.

$50 a pop. I'm hitting up Veracruz and Raudaln next week when I'm in Colombia. I have no problem handing this over to street punks if they pull shit but still I will only go there between 10 am and 3 pm. I'll post my experience here when I get back.
I don't mean to accuse the gentleman of anything but 1 k dollars over 2 weeks there seems a lot (in the veracruz area). The most you would be paying is 50 k a pop. At two pops a day over 14 days that is 700 k pesos. That's only about 200 USD. How could you be spending 1,000 USD in 2 weeks in veracruz? Something doesn't add up. I sure hope he wasn't throwing money around there because that is going to attract attention.

The place the girls took me was nice and clean and nowhere near as nasty as the low end Casa's like Yakuza. The rooms had clean beds, fans, TV w / porno and showers. If we wanted to spend a arm and a leg on providers we could do that Stateside.
"and he will probably have a really bad experience".
Obvious gringos with lots of cash and no fluent Spanish or street smarts should probably stick to the Mansion, but otherwise I had a fun time down there, all 4 girls were fun.
YMMV.
