I believe he was walking around his nice neighborhood and was victim of the typical 2 guys on a moto robbery. I was down there at the time and read about it in the local newspapers.

I found it somewhat amusing- ironic as his quotes were to the effect of complaining about the violence and lawlessnes in the City.

Even making movies![/QUOTE]It was only for the interview however when he was asked how much would a hit cost today, he replied that it would cost $50 K here (meaning a high estrato area under surveillance) and $1 or a cost of a bullet there (in a troubled or poor area where there is no surveillance or there is a guerilla activity). The lesson is very simple, stay at good areas, and if you don't provoke anyone then you can lessen the chances of a random assault.

I really don't understand all this hype and big interest for "Pablo Escobar Tours"!

If I go to Chicago, the lasts thing I would be interested to visit would be the places of Al Capone.

If I go to London, I have the British Museum, the V&A Museum, LOTS of incredible things to visit, but I would never waste half day to check the alley of Jack The Ripper.

I never heard about people travelling to USA and spending half day to look for the house of John Dillinger or Jesse James! Plenty of more interesting places to visit.

Al Capone is not the most famous person from USA.

I think the Escobar tour was one of the top things to do in Medellin. Otherwise I would have never even known about it. And it was very interesting to hear the stories. Of course it was nothing you could not have read beforehand or seen in the documentaries that have been made. Sometimes it is just about saying you were there at the same place as the famous person was.

I get it. Even at a couple sessions a day it's usually not more than 5 hours of time occupied. And if you are doing strip clubs and casas that's a couple hours by day, few hours by night. Then what? I have one good friend and an acquaintance from a different mongering destination and neither want to visit Medellin because they want more than a chica scene. They are looking for a beach, an outdoor playground. There actually is plenty of adventure available in MDE imo with hang gliding, helicopter rides, day trips, excursions to parks. But it's landlocked and not for everyone. Myself, I am perfectly happy without all the stress and exhaustion that comes with sightseeing, adventures and tours.

In Medellin, there's the Museum in centro along with the plaza, and Arvi Park. Those two are actually worth going to. I also advise checking out the night life in Laureles. Think of it as a night away from El Poblado. Outside of Medellin there's Santa Fe de Antioqua, and Jardin. Santa Fe is much easier to get to by car. It's only an hour away. You can even find tours of it offered by tourism companies. Jardin is a bit of a two hour trek. I would only go there if you decide to stay there overnight. There is both paragliding and hang gliding just outside of Medellin. It's about 30 to 45 minutes to get to each and it's pretty cheap.

The trouble is these are all day trips. I'm not aware of anything touristy to do during the night, and the night is when casas close up. That's the biggest downtime for a lot of visitors.

I find the Escobar tours tacky and would never go on them. You can pick up a good book on the subject. No need to check out the man's grave.

I'll be arriving tomorrow night in Medellin. Will post a report when I get back. Have fun and stay safe everyone!
