Very well put. The problem is that the whole scene is so unprofessional and poorly managed in AC that the "wall flower customers" needs are very often overlooked. Unfortunately very few mamasans run a tight ship and tamad jollibees are, unfortunately, very common in AC. Case in point..I couldn't help laughing last night passing one of the perimeter bars - the door girls were checking out the latest Avon catalog so naturally all potential customers passing by were duly ignored :D
On a positive note, I checked out the Hotel Tiger last night and was pleasantly surprised. This hotel on 126 Narciso St is w/in walking distance from Fields and looks like a good deal for the budget-minded traveller.
Rooms are available @ 1000 P per night and up with weekly/monthly discounts of 10 and 15% respectively. If you need a good, clean hotel with all the basics and then some more thrown in for good measure, this is it. The hotel is really wired (and -less): inhotel and inroom wifi..PLUS...LAN connections...PLUS..a complete Internet connected PC set on each floor..all of this at no extra cost for guests. Book early, they have been more or less sold out since opening. No surprise.

Weekly checkup consists of an assembly-line visual inspection and a smear. This will (obviously) only detect some of the potential problems, but hey, it's better than nothing. HIV tests are few and far between. This is a third world country. Caveat emptor.

Well, the monthly should run P 25.500 and up according to their discount scheme. (If you plan on staying in AC for several months there are other options available in AC that may provide even better value IMO, though)
Ironically their card doesn't list neither e-mail nor website address. I'll try to extract some more info next time I'm in the area, possibly already tonight

Thanks for the clarification. I actually expected that with the prevalence of do-it-yourself blood tests now that there was some type of more complete testing in such a popular destination as AC, especially given the focus on ASEAN business exchange and tourism. What really concerned me was not the fact that they do not do a blood test, but that this girl (and presumably others) thought what weekly checks they do recieve checked for everything. She was honestly perplexed when I asked her casually about the blood test, she said "No, doctor push on my abdomen, do smear, check everything...". Meanwhile this girl like many would have provided BBFS without question.
Education is key to prevention, so I guess it is ultimately up to us, as everywhere, to keep ourselves safe by being smart and minimizing risk for ourselves, the working girls, and any ladies we might have waiting for us back home. We're all human, and I for one have succumbed to alcohol and temptation in the past; I am pretty sure we all have and some of us will continue to do so. Just be advised and be careful.

- I leave Philippines; 2 weeks pass (Christmas); e-mail from Tiger: please call me this is very urgent. That's it, she has it.

- One year later, I do another test in a good hospital of the Philippines; wait 1 week for the results (as part of a full check-up);

- Last test 2 months ago: negative.

I was talking with members of management at the Blue Nile, Neros, Bedrock, bars and they say the new electronic gaming machines might not be happining. My point was basically that while Tiger sure is a very good deal @ P900 daily (weekly prepaid rate) their monthly rate just drops an additional 5 % and 25 k Pesos monthly still gives you quite a lot of purchasing power in the rental market in AC. A decent unfurnished apt can be rented for 3-4000 P/month and up (sans utilities) on a yearly basis, so the various long term serviced/furnished apts cannot deviate too much from that...
There are so many options available, including the hotels in Diamond Subd (requires a little legwork or a jeepney/trike ride), where you will probably be able to get good long term discounts.
Just let me know your ballpark budget and any specific requests such as walking distance, kitchenette etc and I'll try to suggest the best AC LT rental bang for your bucks.

The girl I reported on a little earlier apparently gave me a little something extra: a staph urinary infection. I started suffering the obvious symptoms yesterday after she left.
Managed to locate an excellent doctor via the web at [url]http://www.angelescity.com/std_doctor.html[/url], named Dr. de Guzman, out on Perimeter Road. I asked him how this could happen given how careful I was, and he said it was probably from unprotected oral sex. He even let me look in the microscope to see the little fuckers for myself. Fortunately it will be easy enough to clear up with a shot and some antibiotic pills, but what really pisses me off is that it puts me out of action for the rest of my trip, just when I got to AC.
For anyone finding themselves in a similar situation, I can recommend this doctor and his staff, who were professional and friendly. They are located just past Oasis on Perimeter in the COMMUNITY MEDICAL SERVICES building. No appointment is necessary.
It could have been worse, but I wish you all better luck than I had on this trip.
