People say.[/QUOTE]For a normal tourist monger big cities like Rio, Medellin, Bogota, Santo Domingo are more dangerous than a little town like Sosua.

In big cities you are dependent of untrustworthy taxi drivers and have to know very good which places in the city are a "no go zone" for you, in some places you go better during the day only.

But you are right, never it's so dangerous how people describe it from outside.

Any advice appreciated.[/QUOTE]I fly to SDQ and take a taxi to caribe tours. It is about 30 minutes ride. Then I take a bus to Puerto Plata. It is about 5 hours ride. Sosua is next stop about 30 minutes more. Buses are good and there is a bus every hour between 6 AM and 7 PM. I stay in Santo Domingo one night before my flight back just in case if there is a problem with bus and I don't want to take a chance.

If you take the time to browse back a few pages you will find some excellent advice including a variety of options and costs.

The buses are modern and reliable. Carib tours runs on the hour until almost 6 PM. Metro Bus last bus leaves at 4 pm for Sosua, Metro bus drops you off walking distance from everything, Carib you will need a cab, For return trip Carib has a 6 am bus. Gets you in town by 11;30.

Based on your time table catch Metro Bus 4 pm for Sosua. Cab ride will take about 35 minutes and cost 35 bucks. If you have a problem and can not get there by 4 carib tours is an option, Bring a sweater the air condition is freezing. You can leave early Monday morning and be in SD in plenty of time to get your flight. Some porters at the bus station will give you a ride to airport for a 1000 pesos.

It would be great if they did have an express bus; but that would make too much sense for the Dominicans to do.

I haven't seen or noticed it before. I hope that means you do not have to go into the city of Santa Domingo now.

I think they use it to park the buses as there is no room in Los Charamicos. Maybe they have service facilities there.

It might make sense to make it into a public stop but only of they provided a free or cheap shuttle from the airport and El Batey that met departures and arrivals. And that might start all sorts of contractual wars with Metro and the transport unions.

And they want avoid trouble with the Sosua Police so they avoid trolling the streets. They are not accustomed to working on the street.

Buses from that station head up the John Paul II toll road. Looking at the site, the farthest west buses go from there up north is Rio San Juan. They also go to Samana to the east.

My first trip to Sosua was late Spring 2014 and my most recent trip was earlier this month.

It seems as if the chicas have hardened in just a few short months but it could be my imagination.

Is is possible that the average chica from SDQ or wherever has dropped any hint of GFE service in a few short months or do the chicas pretty much have the same attitudes that they've had year after year?

A veteran's perspective is appreciated.
