I find it very expensive. When I studied at PUC they had two kinds of programs. One program was for paying foreign students and the other was as like a kind of exchange-student. I went for the latter, even though there were no real exchange.

I took Portuguese and two more courses in one semester and only paid a small fee each month. I guess things have changed.

The teaching was excellent. Still I find US$ 18/hour expensive. That's R$ 32/hour. R$ 0,5/minute... half the BA85-price.

For anyone who reads Portuguese well and really wants to know what goes on behind the scenes at a termas, I can recommend the book "O Primeiro Sexo," by Carolina Boechat, a former receptionist at L'uomo. She gets some things wrong--she doesn't try to understand the men--but she gets a lot right. She gets close. It's actually a lot darker and more cynical on the girls' side of things than she understands. She spends more time putting them down for lack of education than she does trying to understand their experience and perspective. So she comes off as more than a little stuck on herself.

But if you want the inside information, that book will get you a taste. Make sure you want it, though. You might not be pleased by what you read. (You will learn definitively, for example, which men the girls prefer. And it has nothing whatsoever to do with skin color, race, nationality, eye color, religion, politics, age, or how well you hit it. I'll leave it at that.)

Thanks[/QUOTE]Well, I'm about halfway through it so far. The funniest story yet involves a girl yelling at a client "Shit out my press-on nail! I want it back! " According to the book, about 85% of guys want something or other stuck up their asses. The numbers I get from the girls is more like 50% Americans, 80% Brazilians, and %100 percent Italians, but who am I to quibble.

She also really gives it to the termas owners. I don't think she's got a single good thing to say about them. She barely changed the names--just a letter or two, so it's pretty easy to figure out who's who.

As for the other stuff, I learned a long time ago that most guys really don't want to hear the truth. They pay for the fantasy--which the girls work hard to maintain. And you can rarely say, "This is 100%, in all cases, true." There are always exceptions--but they're strongly in the minority. I don't really want to get deep into discussing those parts of the book. But it's out there if you've the will to get to it. Maybe another member will contribute.
