As such it is sort of a south american adaptation of the ramblings of the dude and his Bros in LA on the way to the sea to bury a friend.

As a PSA to we few, I have gone so far as to cut and paste Bubba Boy's guide. I concur with all his wisdom, with some notes of my own.
I also prefer the local places which are 1/4 the price of the tier 1 termas.
But most new battle buddies I meet from ISG want to go to the tier 1 places, which is fine with me, maybe once a week. Due to the exchange rate just going from strength to strength and inflation still over 10% per year (yes I know the official rate is 5%, but come on, government figures are just going from the absurd to the ridiculous) there are not many foreigners in Brazil, relatively speaking. Does this mean it is hurting for business? Well no, the locals are doing more and more business. The local Rio hotels and apartments are mostly full with Brazilians, and the clubs as well. Brazilian guys tend to be more tyre-kickers and ass-grabbers than your average gringo, hence still plenty of available / doable bundas (asses) around. I tend to find myself spending more and more time in the locals clubs than the tourist joints because you can find the same quality girls or better for 1/4 the price and it is of course more fun!
Termas: There are 3 major tier 1 Termas in Copacabana. Tier 1 being the most expensive: L'Uomo, Monte Carlo and Centaurus (its located in Ipanema but its on the border). About an are $ 25 cab ride south over to the beautiful Jardim Botanica (Botanical Gardens) area will see you at Solarium, which is virtually identical in price and atmosphere to the other Termas. It is slightly smaller though, but worth the trip if just to see the Lagoa (lagoon) and Statue of Christ in the distance at night. Spectacular! There are also a heap of Termas in centro ("center of the city" – about 8 kms or 5 miles north) area. Quatro por Quatro (4 x 4) is the biggest Termas in Rio and has 100+ girls at peak time, a sight to see. Centro Termas are about 40% cheaper than L'uomo and Monte Carlo, with the exception of Termas 65, which as of this update is just a little bit less. There are also a heap of smaller places in Centro that are 1/3 the cost of the big Copacabana places. There are also prives, which are like small brothels, and a bunch of other stuff. A Termas works like this: You get greeted by a receptionist at the entrance, they will speak English at the places mentioned above, some in Centro may not speak as much but you will get by. She will give you a key to a locker. You go in to the locker room and put everything in there and change into a robe that is provided. That's right a bath robe. You can elect to wear your Calvin Kliens under the robe or you can go commando and let your boys be free. Flip flops are provided for your feet. When you want to interact with the girls you make you way up to the Boate (Pronounced: Bo-atch or Bo AR chi. Portuguese) (Boite is french – you see both spellings in Rio) which is the bar-club area. Be prepared for the size of the Boate, most people say that they are a lot smaller than they expect. It can be like a big lounge room with 50 - 100 people squashed into the one space. Of course half are wearing "fio dental" bikinis (dental floss), hence it isn't all that hard to get used to. The girls will be hanging around the bar looking to interact with you. The girls do not get paid to just hang around, they do not receive a commission on the drinks you consume; they only earn Reals (the local currency) when they take you to the room to do the deed (cabine – pronounced cab-eee-nee). There will be music playing and it is just like a normal bar. . . Although you are wearing a robe and all the girls are available If you wish to order a drink, and you will, the locker key number is like you credit card, you will be asked to show it and your bar tab will be credited towards it. No money changes hands when you are inside the Termass; you settle the bill at the end (unless you go to Centaurus where they want everything upfront). Do not lose your locker key! The portion of the bill that is for the girls has to be paid in cash!
Once you spot someone you like, just basically look in her direction and she will be on you: they look to engage in eye contact. If this does not work use a hand signal -- don't worry, once she knows you are interested she will be more than keen to sit next to you. You can play around with her for a while, there are generally 2 or 3 times as many girls as there are guys, although in peak times this may be reduced to 1:1, so generally you have time on your side. Many will literally insist you take their number.
