Hello, . I will be in Patong in March. What is the best way. I don't want to pay joiner fees. Do I will have to pay some to go in an appartement?
Or do I have to choose a hotel?
Thanks!
Can anyone recommend a dive shop in Phuket? I'm coming down from Pattaya a couple of days for the express purpose of diving (of course I'll do some mongering too) and would like to see some Discover Channel type of stuff.
I recomend you Eden Divers. They have a shop at Patong and as well at Khao Lak. Very nice people for day trips as well as for safari.
Your "standard Isaan ho." is probably very different than what I can get in the local brothels in my area for 300 or 400 baht (for Farang customers, I know at least two brothels where Thai customers are still charged only 250 baht per shag there) on premises. Here are a few samples (and those are not the most beautiful ones that one can find there) :
Why is the second one's face so white. Looks kinda like a clown if you ask me. Not attractive at all. Seriously what's up with that? :S.
The first girl is the only attractive one IMHO. I wouldn't mind going to Thailand if there are a lot of girls like her around. Too bad the HIV rate is like 40% or something. Kinda making me reconsider (and seeing that freak with the white face doesn't alleviate my worries haha. Maybe she's trying to cover something up.) What are your thoughts on that anyway?
Why is the second one's face so white. Looks kinda like a clown if you ask me. Not attractive at all. Seriously what's up with that? :S.?
Typical asian make up.
In the western world it is fashionabel girls do add a skin-darkening make up.
Exactly the other way in Asia.
Girls look for a white and pale skin.

Well, in Thailand, as already stated by Bionicman, the whiter your skin is, the better! A dark skin is not attractive for the locals (therefore, you would notice that many Thai young women avoid staying in the sun and often use skin whitening creams and other cosmetics in order to look "whiter"). It's a little bit like in the past in Europe when aristocrats were applying powder to their face to whiten it. During that period, the pale look was very desirable as it distinguished the wealthy from the common people who had a darker complexion. That's still what most Thai people think nowadays: you can not have a white skin if you are a poor peasant working several hours a day under the hard sun. Therefore, if your skin is fair, you are supposedly a more important person (richer, probably better educated, etc.) than people who have a darker complexion.
I must say that, as someone who lives daily in this country since year 2002, my own taste in local women is very different from what it was several years ago. I did not care much about the local girls' complexion then and even thought that dark-skinned women were more attractive and exotic. Don't be afraid if that's your preference, there is plenty of this kind (girls with a fair complexion are less numerous, especially on the P4P market) in the Land of Smiles. But, for me, they are not very attractive anymore (although a few among them still are, but that's rather exceptional nowadays): I guess that's because I have spent a long time here and what is rarer (a fair skin) is more attractive to my eyes than what is very common (dark skin).
Now, about HIV prevalence in Thailand, I don't know what are your sources, but that's not what is said for instance here: http://www.avert.org/thailand-aids-hiv.htm
Anyway, if you practice safe sex, you should not worry much.

From the site that Goyave posted:
Estimated total population. 2010 67, 089, 500.
Estimated number of people living with HIV, end 2009 530, 000.
530, 000/67, 089, 500=.007 or. 7% which would be 7 out of every 1000 instead of 400 out of every 1000 as you have erroneously posted.

As Goyave has pointed out, Thai women do not like going into the sun. When you go to the beach you will see many of them with shorts and t-shirts instead of the traditional swimsuits that women from other countries wear. And it will be almost impossible to get them to leave from under the beach umbrella as my fair-skinned ex girlfriend would never do.
As for the girl's face looking so white, through my own experience when you are in person with them their faces do not have that appearance. I have found that it is the flash from the camera that makes the make-up appear to be ghostly white and clown-like as you have pointed out Salsadude. So although they may be attractive in person, a photo of them with that makeup on will make them look like shit.
