Very good points, Lubricate It.The area has a high concentration of very polite, friendly touts and we want to keep it that way. Travelling in groups, especially gaijin, is very bad for our image. Defintely travel alone and use your most polite manners and definitely try to use Japanese, even if it's pretty limited like mine. Any group of gaijin, especially ones that are loud or boistrous or cocky is going to ruin it for everyone. The touts don't want to deal with anyone who is acting un-Japanese and the ugly western foreigner who may have had too much to drink just creates a very bad environment.It is probably better to go during a slack time and not when the place is hopping busy because they really won't have time for you if they are already taking reservations from walk-ups. Avoid Friday nights if possible. I mostly go on Saturday or Sunday in the afternoon and they usually out in force hustling business.And, always, always follow directions and do what you're told. I've never been hustled out of sight but I could imagine it might happen. They're doing us a favor by allowing us in so appreciate it and be humble about it. These are not the Chinese "massagee" bait and switch clip joints in Kabukicho or Kannai so don't worry too much about being ripped off. When I go to Japanese only places, I usually reserve my way in first, not go there cold like that. So VJE is JO.The old KMP "Paradise" is still there, but under a different name. If I ever go anywhere it is just me, or maybe 1 buddy the max. I'll be travelling to over a half-dozen of the other fun countries soon, so I'll be saving my cash for that. During my last trip to Japan, I had the pleasure to meet a really nice non-Japanese girl in one of the bars in Roppongi. I don't want to identify the nationality other than to say she was western. Anyway the first night I thought this is great. A true non-working tourist type of girl. She was friendly, but made it clear that she was not going to be a one night conquest. So I played along and we ended up at some cozy bar. She wanted wine and they only sold it by the bottle and yeah, it was really expensive.Anyway, we did hit it off and eventually she ended up a conquest but not that night. After we really got to know each other she explained to me that she was working for the bar. She and other tourist type girls in need of money, but not willing to become true working girls, lure men into the bars and get them to order them expensive bottles of wine or champagne. Of course the guy has no clue the girl is working for the bar. She told me she had this type of arrangement with several different bars. Her warning to me was that everyone in Roppongi was working to seperate you from your money. Not that that is a big surprise, but this scam is really tricky, especially since it is usually not the first bar where she has the arrangement. Typically they meet the guys in Motown, Wall Street and then suggest going to a more quiet bar. That is where the scam occurs.So as always be careful. And if some innocent looking young tourist type girl suggests going to a more quiet bar, and then wants wine that only comes in a very expensive bottle, just figure that she is getting a good cut of it.I held off posting this until I knew she had left the country.

Go back and read posts on "Sugamo" in the Tokyo forum. There are plenty of touts there.
