Also, does anyone know if I can get a case of rocket propelled grenades through Brazilian customs? In my checked baggage of course. The reusable launcher will go in my carry on, and it's all for personal use, not resale, so I don't see a problem with import taxes. Here in the Middle East (I'm an American expat in Israel) a lot of little misunderstands are straightened out by a few well placed RPGs.

I think Rio needs me, now more than ever.

After I take care of any gang wars, then I can go down the hill to Mab's and relax with a few margaritas and have a chat with some of the local young ladies.

It's as if each person is talking about a different city. For example, I'm a New Yorker, born and bred, and I can tell you pretty much exactly the dos and don'ts of New York City and I'm pretty sure there is a consensus on that. But everybody has a different idea about crime and violence in Rio.

Bottom line, I'm just going to ignore everybody. I'm getting off the plane and if everyone is wonderful or if I get machine gunned by gangbangers or both, I'll just take it as it comes.

When I was a university student, I met lots and lots of people from New York City. One thing that struck me about almost all of them was how worldly and sophisticated they thought they were. Well, as I got to know those individuals more, something struck me about them. Many of them had not been to many other places in their lives outside of New York, which they viewed to be the center of the universe, sometimes even getting into heated arguments with each other over who knew the most about the Big Apple, much to my amusement. The fact of the matter was that with time I discovered that there was nothing "worldly" or "sophisticated" about nearly all of them because they hadn't been anywhere other than New York! And it showed. Yes, New York is a great American city. But, it isn't the world. It's just a small part of it. To be worldly, you've got to see and experience the world. As much of it as you can. Because New York alone isn't going to be nearly enough. That doesn't cut it.

So the Boxing sports world lost a legend on March 13th, 2021, Marvelous Marvin Hagler.

It was way back in the day (90's), that I ran into him and his brother, at HELP during carnival. He was one of the nicest sports celebs you'll ever meet. I was very surprised at how much taller I was (me 5'11) than him, but make no mistake about it, he was a solid muscular man, from head to toe (and good looking). Obviously not someone to be messed with. He shall missed by family and those in the sporting world.

Pretty sure I'd taken a pic of him and his brother back then, but can't seem to find it. Anyway here is a little nostalgia from that Rio Carnival era.

I never thought I would see the day when I couldn't just jump on a plane and fly to my favorite destination in the world. Nine days ago Secretário de Saúde was speaking about closing Rio for tourists, but his suggestion wasn't approved.

Otherwise, we could fly into SP and then take a bus to Rio. I think they are closing buzios to foreigners as well.
