The prices in BKK have doubled over the last 5 years, with the introduction of new and better paying jobs in general and other P4P venues and therefore more options for the girls. Of course general inflation also had it's hand in it. That said, it's still only 15% to 25% of what it would cost you compared to the U.S., Europe, Japan or other similarly developed country. Even less, when you consider the time you get for the amount you pay (2 hours or more ST and the LT rates are extremely low). I think it's still "cheap", especially when you consider B2,000 can get you LT in BKK and won't even get you a decent quicky in the U.S.

I think with the development and new down time diversions in Bangkok, it's actually an even better city to visit now than in it's "heyday" 20+ years ago. I'm not one of those who yearns for the "good old days", since I think those days are right now. The best of all worlds. It may eventually get to a point that it's no longer good value, but that may be a decade or two away.

Went over to Soi 33 last night to browse amongst the Artist Bars. Went into one called "Napoleon". Step inside, and there are guys in suits taking your drink orders. They aren't that expensive - I think 100 baht gets you a beer. Lady drinks are 100 baht as well before 10pm. Anyway, this place is really decked out. Very well decorated and they even have a professional pool table (50 baht a game). Many of the girls here wear sexy white suits or black dresses. They are nearly all stunners - minimum 7/10, and many are 9 or 10. We sit down and this lovely tall girl comes and asks to sit next to me. We chat for awhile -- her English is impeccable. Her conversation skills are also better than any bargirl I've ever met. I'd say she's 9/10 on looks, and a perfect 10 on personality. She says she's only been there for 3 days, which is probably bullshit but who cares. Her name is Mint. I buy her a drink and we talk some more. She's a uni student finishing up her studies (or so she claims). Well, I get ready to leave and just for kicks I ask how much the barfine is. She pretends not to know and has to go ask. Barfine is 1600 baht. Shortime is 3,000 baht, and Longtime is 5,000 baht. I was expecting this so I just play it cool and told her I might come back next week (doubtful). I suppose the way in would be to get her phone number to skip the expensive barfine, but 3k is still a bit much for ST. Lovely girl, though.

Thats a real bummer. Joking aside, it will be a nightmare when there aren't any poor countries left where we can exploit young girls for prostitution!! Something should be done before we are all equal! Maybe US and Uk should invade somewhere. Hasn't been done for a while :-)

I have been often to Eden in the last 3 years and never saw a "nigerian", but maybe I did not notice, since this does not matter at all to me.

Would anyone pay B1600 for barfine and B3000 for ST? I get pissed at B600 for barfine and B1500 for ST. Maybe I'm just tight though.

Have any of you guys paid money like that?

I once heard a comment like that, not about Nigerians but about Africans in general -- a guy I was drinking with said he wouldn't go with a girl after she'd been with an African. I said to the guy, wow, that's pretty racist. But he said no, no, it's nothing to do with race, it's because the rate of HIV is so high amongst Africans and that they don't like to use condoms. I'm pretty liberal-leaning, but had to admit that both those points are true, from what I've read. I would have to say that I already decided that if I ever make it to Africa, I won't be partaking of the local offerings... nor in any place in the world where the rate of AIDS is high.

33 is an enjoyable place for me but Napolean is not one of my favorites. There are some very nice bars there and not crowded and not pushy like NEP or Cowboy etc... The ladies tend to speak better english or more then bar girl english, the pool tables are usually not too crowded (many of the bars have pool tables), the ladies are not doing 5 guys a night, you can get meals there, many places if they do not have kitchens have menus from near by that you can order in from. Back in the days they let you smoke the bars were never over flowing with smoke (as a non smoker this was a good selling point for me) etc...

Paying 3 or 5 K baht does not get you a better screw. Granted you can spend a longer time in a quieter place talking to ladies and getting a vibe for how they will be and if they might be more GFE then other places. Can you end up with a total star fish.. of course you could. Just like going for a model at a soapy... the higher the price does not mean the better the service. However rarely was I disappointed with the level of service these girls provided to me, from an assortment of bars.

Drink prices on 33 I find are very reasonable; however watch some bars as they will try to pad the bill. Wall Street, the office, Monet, Powley's, green parrot, and of course Livingstone I trust and have never had an issue with the bills and I have never had a problem leaving items on tables or laying around, the girls and staff have always been above board and honest at these places. Some other places are known to be a little shady on the bar bills. Some bars you can buy your own bottle and keep it there for just you. While I find the little glasses of drinks and the prices at cowboy and other places to be almost the same price or higher. So cost wise to have a few drinks, with the nice atmosphere, I do not think 33 is expensive.

While I will and do go out to NEP and Cowboy, I do enjoy an early evening get together over on 33. Mixing a little Gullivers / Beer Garden with a little 33 with a little NEP / Cowboy makes for an enjoyable time in BKK for me.

The truth is: I have lived in Sub-Saharan Africa, am very familiar with the sexual practices in that part of the world and I know that AIDS is out of control. Call me paranoid, but I aint' taking any chances. I know that the Thai government cracked down on the "visitors" from West Africa in recent years, so it's likely you haven't see any in Eden for a while. Last time I went to Eden, there were two West African "clients" who were going to do two girls on the left side of the line together (a foursome). It ain't racism, it;s a matter of statistics and common sense.

A few points - the girls in Eden use the condom nowadays, and girls in general are somewhat reluctant to take African clients at all much less go condomless with them. Really the main source of infection among Thai prostitutes is Thai men - it is worth noting that the variety of virus most common in Southeast Asia is quite distinct from that which is common in Africa.

As for the high priced girls mentioned, alas it is inevitable that the more expensive the girl, the worse the service.

Looking for a new Video camera and portable mp3 speakers. Is Thailand cheaper than UK? Been to Panthip plazza every trip but only to buy DVDs and software (just for backup purposes obviously). Is it worth my while waiting til I get to Bangkok or just buy it in UK first?
