Is the ATMs in Cali as good and plentiful as they are in Medellin?

I've not been to Medellin so I cannot compare to that city, but I have been to Cali and I have no trouble locating or using ATMs they were plentiful.

Where are the best ATMs?[/QUOTE]I always go to a populated ATM, usually in a mall. Then I go into the mall, do a lap or stay a while, then leave out a different exit. Or I go to a ATM that has armed security. ALWAYS. But they are very plentiful in populated areas but where my novia lives there is ONE ATM and there is usually a line around the block.
All the same banks as Medellin in Cali.
I use the Citbank there as well without problems.

The secret is to pick the right horse and let him know you're a discerning and demanding, yet very loyal and generous, customer, if he provides.

The first time I went to Cali I encountered one of those roadblocks leaving the airport. It was like in the middle of the day and the driver not a taxista thought it was unusual. The roadblock was before you exited the airport where you or the driver pay some sort of tarifa. Ok, these are military looking guys with rifles, assaults weapons, etc. They go through my luggage, check my passport, and let us go. I keep a laminated passport with me at all times. Ironically I had my passport laminated in Cali. Last Nov. An american told me he tells any "shakedown" characters he only carries his real passport for "la aduana. " Said he doesn't mind discussing it later with the attorney he has on retainer at the jailhouse or at the U. S. Embassy. He says they back off at that point because they don't hear stuff like that.
I laminated mine, but then I found out that if you are U.S. Citizen you can get one of these.

Thanks for pointing this out. In addition to its stated purpose (for border crossings between the USA and Mexico, Canada, Bermuda & the Caribbean... except for such crossings by air) this does appear to be a nice alternative to carrying a photocopy of one's passport.
I was concerned to note that this Passport Card contains an RFID chip. Although they say the chip does not contain your personal information (only a unique ID number enabling US government officials to access your info in a secure database), one might worry that the presence of this chip might be used by nefarious 3rd parties to target US citizens. However, in their FAQ I noticed the statement
"In addition, to mitigate any possibility that the card could be tracked, it will be issued with a protective sleeve that will prevent the card from being read when not in use."
Thus, until you pull the card from its sleeve, the RFID is supposedly unreadable. This added tidbit may be enough to push me to get one, despite the fact that it contains an RFID chip.

The passport card seems easy to carry but also easier to lose.

You can have both. It is $20 extra, but you have mail in your passport with the application. In my case I do not have the three weeks necessary before I travel.

All this passport talk just gave me a headache.
Where's that Vicodin.
If you look halfway down the page on FAQ, it says you can apply for both at the same time.
If you have a regular passport, you can apply for a card for $20.00.
