A[/QUOTE]Numerous money exchange booths at airport; all offer same rate. Get a few hundred baht at airport for taxi. Exchange the rest after you arrive at your destination for better rates. The best rates are at Superrich1965. There's one at the Chit Lom BTS station. Best rates are on US$100. Be sure the bills are in [U]perfect[/U] Condition and there are no pen marks on them. None of the money exchange booths accept bills that are old or have marks on them; you'll have to take these to banks who offer lower rates. ATMs are also an option. You'll get hit with a THB150 fee, plus your bank's ATM charge fee and a fee for the currency conversation. Superrich1965 is definitely a better deal after you factor in the cost of these fees. It comes down to how much cash you need and are willing to carry on you while traveling.

As I can speak Thai and have been here a very long time I can tell you that many girls deliberatly do things to annoy the monger in the hope he will call off the session but still pay the full tip.

People who pay full price for bad attitidue and bad service are simply playing into the hands of the girls looking for mug punters who will pay full price for bad service.

If driver does not agree to destination, 'use meter' etc, then either he moves on, or you move on, that is, you do not get in. Normally there is an oversupply of taxis, wherever you go. Your in control when your outside the taxi, out of control if you did not negotiate before entering taxi. Even in Manila its rare to have problem with taxi driver, if you clarify everything before entering his taxi. Same with the girls, clarify before entering her, LOL.

Then the issue is that there are places that want you to pay before, and many men not knowing better, will just accept that. Try to see things in perspective, eg. For a 4 days stay, changing $400 at airport. It is worth to have to go shopping for the best exchange later on for $2?

This said from someone that actually used to make money on the black market exchange (in another country at another time), for a meager 40 bucks round-trip, but changing various thousands and taking all the risks.
