It's the Thai owners that prefer to deal with them rather than Westerners, to reape easier proficts. Many girls also follow this logic. There is many discussions here on why that happens.

They also often have prices more in line with Tokyo.

Having said that, they JP guys I've hung out with in SEA tended to be friendly and decent, but they do tend to be clannish.
