The Hotel São Bento for those who are familiar with the hotel and the Praca Mauá area, know it's more of a "short-time sex" motel than hotel. (Mirrors on the walls, ceilings...kkkk). But it was good value and more than ideal for hobbying in the centro/Praca Mauá area, back then.

Couldn't help but chuckle, every time I saw and heard (due to the thin hotel walls), the numerous Brazilian men "on business", that also used this hotel, as their primary business lodgings. Or the hot MILF from Buzios, I'd bumped into on occasion at the Subway boate, earning some extra cash on weekends, who also stayed at the São Bento. Naturally we'd laugh hysterically together, when saw one another.

Definitely had some memorable sessions at that hotel, with some gems FLs or gem girls from Bar Florida, Scandinavia bar, Filipino Bar, 2nd-Tier termas, boates, or just hanging out at the open-air markets stalls and restaurants, Praca Mauá had to offer.

This "ex-right-light district" area has been gentrified now, and over the past several years, has removed, IMHO, much of the charm and charisma the area once had. Ahhh, yes. . . "Order e Progresso", I guess?

I'm curious to know though, if anyone has any recent reports/updates on the Praca Mauá area?

Good 3. 5-star hotels go for around $20-25 WITH breakfast. I stayed at one of those, called Granada hotel I think, a couple year ago in a very nice one-bedroom suite for like $45. Plus you've got quick and immediate access to millions of cheap Centro fucking venues. Of course, as much as I like downtown Rio I do need the beach, but for a budget-oriented monger who doesn't give a shit, this is a promised land.

It's pretty worn now and could definitely use an update but for $20 USD a night you can't complain. Location is great. I recently stayed at Atlantico Prime on Rua Resende in Lapa and it was considerably nicer. Paid about are $650/ week for a deluxe room. Mostly all Brazilian tourists there. Dark and quiet except on weekend nights when I'd hear a little activity. Guest friendly. About a 10 minute walk to Metro Carioca.
