My Bangkok Post Divorce Adventure
The next stop on my post divorce adventure is Thailand. I have been to many places and written about them as well. We are talking Colombia, Costa Rica, Argentina, Ukraine, Russia, Czech Republic, etc. The Far East was the next logical stop and THE PLACE to visit in Asia is Thailand of course. Gave the capital city of Bangkok a whirl.
First off, fly here on Thai Airways. It’s www.thaiair.com on the net. They have a non stop direct flight from Los Angeles LAX airport and apparently also from New York as well. It’s the only way to go… You get on the plane, go to sleep and wake up in Thailand. Stopping off and changing planes in Taiwan or China or something weird like that is a nightmare.
Gotta get yourself an unlocked cellular phone. They are on sale at eBay (www.ebay.com) pretty cheaply, typically for about $50 to $100. Be sure you get one that is unlocked or that you have the patience to unlock it yourself. Most carriers sell their phones locked to their own service. This means you can only use their phone with their service and thus the phone won’t work abroad. I have a particular fondness for and recommend the Motorola V190 GSM Quad Band cell phone. Just found it new on eBay for $45 and used for $25. Save yourself a lot of trouble by getting an unlocked one, otherwise you’ll have to pay for the codes to try to unlock it yourself after you get it, quite annoying.
I stayed in a boutique hotel. There are gigantic hotels in Bangkok with hundreds of rooms. Good example is the President Solitaire (www.presidentsolitaire.com) or the Grand President (www.grandpresident.com). Personally I would not stay at either but the location is correct, where you want to be, which is around Sukhumvit Soi, in this case number 11. It’s pussy central my friends.
My hotel is Citi Chic, same area, much nicer. Try www.citichichotel.com. It’s moderately sized, has free breakfast, a pool on the roof, nice rooms, free WIFI internet, plasma TV’s, etc. Taxi drivers at the airport are as dumb as fuck so best to bring the exact address written down with you from their web site (34 Sukhumvit Soi 13, Bangkok). And by the way, the taxi ride from the airport to the hotel should run you about $15, certainly not more than $20 though I heard quotes up to and over $60 so watch out for the rip offs. I’d say a metered taxi is always your best bet. The money is relatively easy to deal with. Say something is 10,000 baht (the local Thai currency). You knock off 2 zeros, thus 100 and then you multiply by 3, thus $300. That is that 10,000 baht is about US$300. Obviously this varies but it’s a good estimation point. Things sound like “more” because the currency is in the thousands but actually things here are pretty cheap. This is certainly true of sexual services.
Once you arrive and check into your hotel, drop by a 7-11. That’s right, Thailand has the good old 7-11 franchise all over the place (www.adamlawyer.com/adam/bangkok/711.jpg). Buy yourself a cellular SIM card there on DTAC cellular service, put it in your phone and you are good to go. There are 3 general places renowned for sex. First is Patpong (http://*************.com/pictures/patpong.shtml). Confusing to the Western Mind, Patpong is actually two streets, Patpong 1 and Patpong 2. They are lined with what are essentially store fronts which are go go bars, clubs, etc. Historically this was the “famous street” and “best place” where American soldiers in particular would go for R&R (rest and relaxation) during time off from fighting in Vietnam. You may wish to visit for curiosity purposes but there is no reason to go there any longer. First of all, beware of the ladyboys. Ladyboys are men who are transvestites or transsexuals pre-op or post-op, I don’t know and don’t want to know. In current day Patpong you are very likely to be set up with what you think is a woman but is actually a guy. No thanks, not my thing. Yuck. There are also stories about getting drugged, screwed with, pickpocketed, etc. All in all, best avoided, no thanks, take care, bye.
The new “great street” is Soi Cowboy which is the happening spot at the moment. There are some other streets like it of a “smaller” variety. There is an area which sports clubs named after artists like Degas, Van Gogh, etc. It is called Soi 33 or Artist Soi. There are also lesser known side streets with a good club or two including for example the club Eden, but best off check out Soi Cowboy which is a whole street of go go bars. www.adamlawyer.com/adam/bangkok/eden.jpg
So here is the story on Soi Cowboy. There are girls outside trying to hawk the club to you. They sit or stand outside and urge you to come in. If you step in, they are dying to get you to sit down and once you sit down one or two girls will be all over you. The key point is for you to get a tab going. You order a drink for yourself and then the girls want you to order drinks for them that they don’t even sip anyway (they have like a drink order quota to meet apparently). Your drink will be like 200 baht and their drink, maybe a Coca Cola, will be like 150 baht. So a few of these and you are already up to 600 baht let’s say. Now think about that. It sounds like a lot but if you knock off two zeros you get 6 and if you then multiply by 3 you get $18. So for having a drink and a very hot chick rub all over you and feel you up for 30 minutes, you are paying $18, not all that bad. You can fool around with these girls in the bar itself to some degree. Some do sex acts right while you sit at the damn stool and there are also dancing stages, stripper poles, etc. If you have any class or humanity and you find a girl you like you will want to take her back to your hotel for some privacy during sexual acts. This involves paying the “bar tax”. This is the price you pay for the girl to leave the bar, a payment to the bar for helping you find her and for housing her normally, on some level, she “belongs” to the bar. The bar tax is typically about 400 to 1,000 baht. You pay the bartender, apparently later on the girl gets some share of this, though likely a small share. The girl leaves with you and then you take her back to your hotel. She is going to want 1,000 to 1,500 baht. This is for “short time” which is like two hours of doing whatever you want. Figure about 2,000 baht all together, that’s $60 for two hours of non stop action by a woman who culturally wants nothing more than to completely please a man. Can you imagine? An American woman is offended by the idea of “having to” please a man.
As I’ve said, two hours in “short time”. There is also overnight which is “long time”. Logical stuff.
Another good place is called Nana Plaza. Nana Plaza is a whole assortment of clubs and bars surrounding the Nana Hotel.

These are bars like at Soi Cowboy though I did find something truly mind boggling there. I went to a place called Annie’s, www.adamlawyer.com/adam/bangkok/annies.jpg. Annie’s does what is called a “fish bowl”, www.adamlawyer.com/adam/bangkok/fishbowl.jpg. You get to view typically about twenty or more girls through glass and you pick by number the one you want to be with. I liked number 16 (www.adamlawyer.com/adam/bangkok/g16.jpg). For 1,500 baht ($45) this chick gave me a bath, scrubbed me, massaged me, blew me, fucked me beyond belief and then blew me and massaged me some more for two hours. The woman was an artiste. Highly recommended.
Along the way there are literally countless massage parlors. For example Sabai Sabai. You come in, they remove your shoes and give you slippers. A shower and one hour oil massage runs about 500 baht ($15). The woman you pick rubs you down, stretches you, manipulates your body in positions you cannot imagine and offers you a hand job or blow job for about 400 baht tip ($12). A no lose proposition all in all, www.adamlawyer.com/adam/bangkok/sabaisabai.jpg. There are so many of these places it is impossible to count them.
Streets are lined with vendors selling knock off Levis, Calvin Klein copies, fake quartz Rolexes, magic tricks, unlicensed T shirts, children’s toys, “art”, pirate DVD’s of films currently playing in theatres in the USA, weapons, knives, etc. Do not pay quoted prices! Bargain! Offer less than asked please! Don’t be a dumb tourist. Watch for Viagra sold in the street, it’s fake, just chalk made in India, useless, forget it. I even met a street elephant, www.adamlawyer.com/adam/bangkok/elephant.jpg. Everything is possible in Thailand.
