Some people should stay at the Mansion. If you speak no Spanish and aren't willing to learn a little, stay there. If you are worried about speaking to taxi drivers who speak no English, go there. If you need a wingman and can't find one, if you're worried about trying something new or afraid to walk a few blocks alone, go there. If you don't mind paying triple rates for a cheap hotel room, go there.

I stayed for 2 nights in their cheapest room, which would have been fine except it has no bathroom. The bathroom is about 40 yards away, down several, unlighted stairs, past the pool. Not the best situation for any drunk, old gringos with bladder problems. The bar is nice, but rather basic. The other guests are nice, you can probably find someone to socialize with. The hotel staff was nice. I would consider another 2 day stay some day, in a different room.

But, I already have a home. It's much nicer than any Mansion room, except no Jacuzzi in the apartment. I pay about what 3 nights in a good Mansion room would cost per month. If I want to pay Mansion prices, for less than a dollar and 2 short walks I can usually find a better selection at Energy in a better room. If I want something quicker and cheaper, New Life is waiting, plus all the other Centro casas and clubs. Haven't felt the urge to pull off the street yet, but the option is there for anyone who wants it.

From the Mansion you're a short walk from several excellent restaurants where you can pay 22 k to 40 k for a good meal. There's even a nearby Burger King, Papa John's and McDonald's. A taxi will take you to Parque Lleras, with many more good restaurants. Someone from the Mansion will direct you to both areas.

If you stay almost anywhere else, you can find great local food for 7 k to 15 k. Maybe a few Mansion guests can direct you to such places.

If your Spanish is very weak, if you're on your first visit, if you're not feeling adventurous, the Mansion is great for you. If you come back a few times per year, why would you continue to stay there?

I feel I have outgrown it, not by anything the Mansion or the chicas have done, but for 3 other reasons. Some of the regulars guests are simply tools & I don't care to be around them, the nightly rates are quite high compared to other options & the little bartender en la Cueva started bitching at me at the 4th of July party, 2016 for no reason. Then every time I went to la cueva she had a scowl on her face and it was a chore & a struggle for her to get me a beer, on my July & December visit. Time to branch out!

It's quick and cheap to grab an uber from Centro to upper scale restaurants, bars, and clubs in Laureles. You spelled it out very well. I was a little confused by the original post. If I were happy in the gringo hotel I would just stay there and not worry about or question what goes on in Centro and why so many of us hang out there.
