Why it will be BKK for me
But what makes Thailand special for me is what I don't have back home. Warm weather all year round, an apartment house that has a lovely pool and a gym, being able within five minutes to go out at night and hang out with a friend or by myself, feeling safe nearly 100% of the time no matter where I go or at what time. And I have been told that girls are also available and easily accessible. But all this isn't enough for a lot of guys because at the end of the day it isn't home and most people want the familiarity they grew up with, their people, their customs, their way of doing things. You won't find that in Thailand. But for now that is ok with me.

I'm using Miami, Florida as a home base for the time being; so I have the warm weather that characterizes Bangkok, a pool, the beaches a good gym five minutes away; and I've also found a couple of cute strippers who I fuck on a regular basis; US$150 for a really good 2 or 3 hour romp with no strings attached, so the price is reasonable. The dancers in the strip clubs in Miami are as good or better than the coyote dancers in Bangkok; and as we all know, what Bangkok's go-go girls do can't even be called dancing. But all things considered, I really miss Bangkok. It has a vibe I don't find here. Bangkok's restaurant scene is so much better than Miami. Exploring Florida is not like exploring Thailand; and a trip to Atlanta is not like a trip to Hong Kong. Though I have fun with my little strippers, there's nothing like Bangkok's mongering scene here, or anywhere else, as far as I'm concerned.
I think your second to the last sentence really speaks to why some men eventually grow tired of Bangkok. However, learning a new language and culture and making new friends is great mental exercise and can rejuvenate an older brain. I look forward to the day I can call Bangkok home for at least a good part of the year.
You guys have summed up my thoughts about living abroad well. Right now I lead a pretty good life in south Florida. Weather, one factor DR mentioned, is very good here. But I am tired of living in the USA and long for the day when I can spend more than just 6 weeks a year in Asia. I have a business and family to think about, but sometime in the next 10 years I know I will be free to make the break, reverse things, move to Thailand – rent a condo, and spend maybe only 6 weeks a year in south Florida.
Why Thailand? And why Bangkok in particular? Because of all the places I know and would consider as a home base in South East Asia, BKK has it all: more than enough friendly, attractive girls (of course) , plus culture, restaurants, things to do, great location (I. E. Close proximity to other great places of interest like fabulous beaches, islands, reefs, other watering holes (different Asian girls) , and relative safety. The last factor, relative safety, is pretty important to me. I know some great Filipinas for example, and quite possibly a Filipina is a better match for me long term, but the thought of living in Manila or Cebu City does not appeal to me at all. And while the idea of renting a beach house in Palawan or some other beach area in the PI and settling down there with one or two girls is very tempting, when I start to think of the risks associated with living anywhere in the PI, I come to the conclusion it just not worth it. I considered Pattaya – Jomtien, but came to the conclusion there is not enough there to keep me interested and occupied. Besides the beach there is polluted. So by default BKK becomes the one really viable choice. Perhaps a couple of years after I make the move to BKK, I may decide to move on to a quieter area with a great beach and settle down with a special Thai girl, but for the initial move to Asia, BKK seems to be the logical right choice for me.
And as far as BKK goes, I really like the upper Sukhumvit area. I like the ambiance and mix of high rise condos, houses, small shops, restaurants, massage parlors, and what not. Anywhere from Soi 23 all the way up to Soi 55 looks real good to me as long as the condo I choose has a good swimming pool, security, and close proximity to the BTS. I think it would feel like I was living in the Thai version of the upper west side of Manhattan only better and I think I would be pretty happy here for at least a year or so. DR, we may be neighbors someday. LOL.
