The free bus from Transamerica goes right by all three of the locations. You can find the schedule on the condo website.

It goes from Barra P6 to Gavea to Leblon beach, all along the beach to P1 at Leme, takes a left at Mabs, and then to Centro, Va Presidente Wilson 147, or "bedoiun" the Arab restaurant across from the US Consulate.

The bus is a great hack because it is a luxury turismo bus, and as such is much better than the city buses.

A uber fare from Barra to RB156 is a half hour in a prive with a top shelf prive girl.

However, to the original posters point-with SA and the "low volume" lifestyle this guy is talking about there is a way in which the *girl* can deny the reality of her profession to *herself*. If you break laws of the favela you are judged by what's called the tribunal of trafico. If you get the thumbs down you're out of here like in ancient Rome. Right then and there you're done, usually in grotesque fashion. So that's a pretty strong motivation not to vacilar. Smaller cities don't have the same organization and structure to discourage. In the NE in Ceara, it's still like Rio was 30+ years ago. The gangs don't have G3 rifles, mostly 38's and shotguns. So the police kill a lot more bandits. They can enter favelas at will. In Rio, it has to be a planned operation. Also, there are more milicias which are basically dirty cops who also murder a lot. Overall a lot more freelancers not used to answering to anybody. At least that's what I've witnessed.

I don't think we are in the tourist area of Rio anymore.

There was a time when the foreign media was fixated on the pacification of the favelas before the World Cup and Olympics. Those who knew I travelled often to Brazil asked me what I thought. I told them that drug lords in the favelas maintained order particularly over the young thugs (favela rats) who would otherwise be preying on tourists. After they were kicked out, that is exactly what happened. The favela rats were jumping up beside buses taking phones and necklaces. They didn't discriminate. Victims were tourists and natives alike. If you are a gringo visiting a favela one of the reasons you might be there is as a paying customer. Who wants to hurt a paying customer? Another reason is you may be with someone who lives there. Again, no reason to cause you harm.

There is an explaination why many cities in northeast amd north have very high murder rates. The last decades these regions had a quick economic growth. Unfortunately the public security have not grown much. The police forces are way to small and the prisons are crowded.
During the last decade many of the criminal organizations have grown very strong in these regions. Besides the big ones like Comando Vermelho and Primeiro Comando da Capital there are also lots of others like Terceiro Comando Puro, Amigos dos Amigos, Família do Norte and many more local organizations. They fight over territory and control of the drug trafficing. These fights combined with understaffed PM and violent milícias creates chaos and results in many people being killed.
