Scuba,
Thanks for the reply. Your method of operation is same as mine.
Have fun, and I hope Fenwicks is not closing!
The best place to get a visa to enter China is to go to Chungking Mansion, second block, elevator A.
China Visa Service
It is on the same floor as the New Kowloon Guest and Apple Guest House. In the corner, there is a small office advertising visas for different countries. 750 HK for a double entry visa (I am Canadian). If you submit your passport before 11:00 am, it will be ready at 1:00 pm the next day. The majority of hostels/guest houses are dirty and run down. Lots of shady characters!
1. Cost of double entry visa for Canadians is HK$220. Express service - $150, Rush service (next day) $250. You overpaid by $280.
2. You actually prefer going to Chung King Mansion - the worst dump in the whole of Hong Kong/where all the drug dealers and the dirtiest street walkers congregate/the cheapest, dirtiest hostels/a fire trap etc etc in Kowloon rather than go to the China Resources Building just a short walk across the covered bridge to the Wanchai/Lochart Road Foreigner mongering destination area?? You gotta be kidding!! Even you stated "...The majority of hostels/guest houses are dirty and run down. Lots of shady characters...." Precise map on the website above.
3. You would actually trust anybody at Chung King Mansion? Worse, you would actually hand over your travel documents to "China Visa Service" versus some scrap of paper that they probably gave back to you? Do you know that Chung King Mansion is also the place to get any kind of 'documents' you may need? Wonder how much a genuine Canadian passport would be worth there!!
4. OK, the lines at the visa office has been a bit longer than usual these days - but if you get there before the official opening hours and start to already line up - I'm very sure you can get out of there in less than half an hour. Hours and Address:
7th Floor, Lower Block, China Resources Building,
No.26, Harbor Road, Wanchai, Hong Kong SAR
Office Hours
Monday to Friday (except Hong Kong public holidays,)
9:00-12:00 14:00-17:00
5. The ONLY way I would recommend anybody going thru ANY travel agent or visa service office is IF they can guarantee you SAME DAY service - which Wadman mentioned previously mentioned as being possible - but which I think NOT probable - as these travel agents/visa guys also need to line up the same way that an individual do and are forced to adhere to the same rules and time constraints as is posted on the above Web site.
I've posted the above information time and again - And I apologize to you Ace - but I really think that posts as yours serve a big disservice to all of us. Sorry.

SEAJ
Joe, you exaggerate a lot.
Chungking Mansion is far not as dangerous as many people would like it to be in order to get rid of it.
Yes, it used to be a fire trap until they installed sprinklers over 10 years ago.
Yes, it is dirty in public areas and there are long queues at the lifts which puts me off.
But to be fair, there are quite a few places inside that are very clean once you have closed your door behind you. And it is the only place where you can stay in HK for as little as 150 HK$ in a (very small) room with shower. I used to stay there a lot when I first came to HK almost 20 years ago. I am still friend with the owner of the (very clean) guest house where I stayed at that time. Just met him on the street a few days ago.
Can anyone comment if this travel agent, or if any of the ones at the Macau ferry terminal can book a flight to the Philippines and be paid in cash? I, as many of you might also, have a reason not to put that kind of thing on my credit card. And if not these, if you know of one that might? Thanks
Guys -
I have a few Mongolian friends who once worked Maggie's in Beijing, but now they are giving Hong Kong a try. I would guess they want 800 ST and 1000 LT, but I am sure this is negotiatable. I know they sometimes go to Harri's bar at the Holiday Inn Golden Mile, and in the past they would hang out at Neptune’s, but that was a couple of years ago.
Any recommendations of where they should now go in Hong Kong?
Thanks!
Sammy

Howzabout this? Howzabout the FACT that I've consciously avoided going to Chung King mansion and its surround for God knows how long - and would only see it from afar when I happen to pass by there in my car/taxi etc. So that is perhaps why I may have given a post that reads exaggerated.
On the other hand, to me that whole area is nothing but a tourist trap attracting the lowest grade of visitors to HKG, filled with all sorts of nefarious characters and going-ons and thus is of no attraction whatsover to me - and I would imagine most 'regular people' in Hong Kong. They may have "cleaned it up" recently - but I would doubt that anything much could be done as its just too much of a dump.
As you and Ace of spades even points out - rooms are available at as little as $150/day, and the various "curry mess" and hole in the wall restauratns all over that building serves some of the cheapest vittles in Hong Kong; Now, you tell me - what kind of visitors are attracted to such a place?? Never mind the lowest class hookers and the drug dealers there, howzabout all the illegal stayer coolies, the Nigerian scamsters, penniless back-packers etc etc - they're all attracted to the delights of the Chung King like Bees to honey!!
Nahhh.. tiger - I don't think I exaggerate too much after writing this - Chung King mansion IS A DUMP!! Sorry - but that is my opinion and there ain't no way anybody is gonna convince me otherwise.

Huh??? MOST travel agents in Hong Kong prefers - and sometimes even insist - on getting paid in cash i/o credit card as the C/C charges eats too much into their slim profit margin. Not sure if these guys at the Macau Ferry pier would even know anything but "Macau" though! but like I said, ANY travel agent in Hong Kong would be pleased to take your cask i/o credit card.

I'd say that these english speaking gals would have most luck trying out Lan Kwai Fong where the 'bigger hitters' go to. It may be "less pickings" at LKF as most - not all - go to LKF to party and/or try to do freebie pick-ups etc, but these Mongolians SHOULD stand out and be able to convert those guys hitting on them into "paying" customers.
Neptunes and the surrounding lockhart road/wanchai area is way over-saturated with the Phillipinos, Thai, Viets, Colombians etc etc and they are not gonna be able to 'play' their sort of uniqueness advantageously, and worse, they may fall "prey" to these pimps who basically 'control' the area. This area though, DOES attract all the "English Speaking Only" mongers/the focal point for most foreign mongers.

Hi friends, I'll be in HK this weekend. Maybe I'll bump into them there. Would be a kind of joke. Do Mongolians taste better in HK? Should I try? :-)
Jack,
think what you are doing! Is she a Filipina? Then you are in trouble for the research. Thse girls have the famous PGN=philippine girls network. You talk to one - everyone knows.
So you will be stuck with 141 or YS places ...... being not so bad as well actually.
Have a good time and all the best.
Mike
I have just returned from a few weeks in and around HK.- trades shows and Canton Fair, etc. I will put together my reports in the next few days, but I can confirm that the PGN is very alive and well. After meeting with a fun Filipina, the next night when I tried to deal her mates, they just smiled and said "Sorry, but my freind likes you" when I attempted to take them home instead. It was actually pretty funny.
Before I forget, there is also an amazingly hot girl I met from Columbia at Neptunes 2. Her name is Andrea, and she is the hot little blonde dancer there last week.- if you saw her on the dance floor, you know the one. I rate her a 8/10. Longer reports to follow for HK, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Taipei, Taichung, and Shenzhen.
@Beijing Fox
I will go to HK this Saturday for 3 days. Do you like to meetup somewhere?
I did not book a hotel yet. where do you stay?
I was able to secure a room and an excuse to stay in Hong Kong tonight, so I am going to enjoy the treats once again. I plan on catching up with one of the local posters, so if anyone wants to join in come along!

At least is this the material prejustices are made of.
