Is there anything like the German "parties" ie entrance fee and unlimited sex and public orgies? When I told him that I was only paying $375 bucks for my round trip ticket from NYC to Rio, the guy just shrugged his shoulders. The lodging is cheaper, less hectic, the water is cleaner, and there're still enough GDPs to keep you busy. On the other hand, like Rio Bob said, in Copa, you just walk out of the building and everything is right there (except Centro termas). For convenience Copa can't be beat. Keep in mind that Vagabundo is practically living in Rio. You must watch your budget on a long stay, and you have all the time in the world to spend on transit.

I'm trying to decide between Copa and Ipanema. I like to spend a lot of time in the ocean. Is the water cleaner in Ipanema than Copa? How bad is the water quality? I don't mind walking or taking short Uber or taxi rides for mongering. I just want to be able to walk to the beach and swim in a warm clean ocean. Also walk to good restaurants.
