Unless bodily harm is involved, guys, you just have to swallow your pride and move on. The only good thing you can do is report it in the forum.

I think you should look to maximize what you can do. Because this is what they are trying to do too. They are looking to maximize the money they make while minimizing the time. And if they have access to items of physical threat, given the opportunity, they will use it or display it. I was capitalizing on the fact that they didn't.

Why couldn't this particular episode have been reported as a pickpocketing crime? Especially when the episode lasted about two minutes without my partaking in anything illegal? More so, when the place was actually a base of the army of robbers? They clearly had a heck of a lot to lose. What would be wrong with generating a crime record with the hotel name, receptionist's name and probably the girl's name too so that if ever there was a more serious crime involving these people there would be some history available to solidify the case against them?

I was actually on my way home because I had received all my money back and I thought I had raised enough storm. Seeing the cops I thought I could take it one step further. I persisted with the process as long as there were hurdles that could be easily overcome. I dropped the chase when I felt like it. I've plenty of time at hand.

At least I learned a lesson. Unless there is bodily harm there's no way in hell you can actually file a report even if you wanted to. If your money is lost you ARE on your own whether or not you wanted to.

Let's get this straight - we are talking about Vietnam and not the USofA.

And anything to do with P4P is illegal in Vietnam and is tolerated as it fullfills a need but only for as long as it does not cause a fuss.

Any stirring up of Authorities - local police, consuls, whatever - will result in crackdowns and reduced opportunities for us all. That is the cold hard facts.

The advice from Columpuss (twice now) is sound.

What happen to NTW happens all day long in Viet Nam. If you’re not careful and ignore your instincts, it will eventually happen to you. A long time ago a monger here gave some great and simple advice. Roll up your pants (with your money) and keep it behind the pillow you’re using. Through the years I’ve used that advice (thanks to whomever it was) and it has served me well.

I would also advise not bothering with the police unless something physical happens. Mongering in VN is much easier then it was four or five years ago and I'd like for it to stay that way.

Drove around here today but came up empty. Talked to two girls who I asked to lower their masks. Neither would so I drove off. Saw two cute girls squatting on the curb at the park.
