Well I heard from some of my "girlfriends" Only damage I heard was there was small electrical fire at touch of class on Perimeter RD. My frind from "Bodyshop" has informed me that after storm business is as normal. Good time to go cuz she told me this is low season and Mongers are wanted.
"Just as a matter of interest, the prices being charged for trikes around the bars of AC are very high in comparison to 'normal' areas of Phils cities/towns."
I guess the idea is to find out what the price actually is as opposed to taking what a couple may be paying as being the gospel. In Pattaya this sort of thing used to happen (arbitrary pricing) and then probably after a few foreigners got the shit kicked out of them, the baht bus council or what ever started to post the fares even though they were already "established". Even though the prices were well established they had to post them in order to let the first time visitors or uninitiated know what the prices were. It was the greed of the drivers that started to get out of hand if I remember correctly. And I may be wrong but am probably closer to what happened than further...
Funny thing is that in Pattaya, and relatively few foreigners know this, the correct fare for all persons is 5 baht. But some first worlder probably went and said "hey that aint fair, we should be paying 10 baht". And the baht bus drivers said (in Thai) "well so be it" and that was the price thenceforth (is that a word? haha) and all baht bus drivers smiled and drank large Singhas.
I once, on a whim during a trip to Pattaya 3 years or so ago, told my friends that the baht bus was 5 baht for everyone. They told me I was crazy and that for us it is 10 baht (yes I normally pay 10 and locals pay 5). And on the next ride I acted like I did not know them and paid 5 baht and walked away without even a whisper from the bus driver. They refused to believe even after I paid 5 right in front of them and then screamed at me the fare was 10 baht for us. That moment, gave me a lot of insight on the western way of thinking and that no matter what there are guys out there who will superimpose western views on a third world situation.

No, I don't believe in poking the hornets' nest. Still, I don't see why I should trust her answer on that any more than I would trust her to review my 401k to make sure my investments are balanced.

Pretty reasonable considering the cost of diesel has about tripled since the 5B fare first went into effect.

A few years ago I was in AC with my son and nephew. A trike driver tried to take them to "play cards." We all know what that means. Had it not been for the fact I warned them, and told them what direction they should be going in, they would have had a bit of a problem on their hands.

I am in AC presently -- this is my second trip in a year. Already, the trike drivers have started to get on my nerves. I was in Manilla recently, I took a taxi around town, I was amazzed at how cheap the fare was to go from point A to B. The same distance in AC or shorter a trike driver would want double or even triple the price.
Stay away from the trike drivers. Find out a hotel in the middle of Fields, walk to the mall, walk to bars or if you live close to Perimeter road use your hotel's transporation, some hotels have their own trikes, buses or vans. The alternative is to take a jeepney -- as most it will cost is 8 pesos, a better deal than the 80 or 90 pesos the trike driver wants!

Just watch out for pickpockets on the jeepneys. They usually work in threes. Try sitting on the front seats on the jeeps.
I'm always amazed when in Angeles to see mainly the bar girls use the trikes and pay their prices. I know some might be getting a free ride pesos wise, but at the same time there are women paying the pesos. I can possibly understand using them late late night or early morning, but when jeepneys are plentiful during the daytime, I just never understood how they are willing to pay a ladydrink at least each trip. Economically it doesn't make sense.

I'm sure it is a status thing. Most BG get up to a 50% discount depending.
I've been warned personally that there is a higher incidence RIGHT NOW at the ST row. This is fact coming from long term residents with unquestioned credibility. There are always anecdotes all over, and your are correct about the frequency of BBFS, but something is going round right now on blow row. The girls are even talking about it. It appears one MF may have spread it to several girls who then pass it on and so on.

Yeah I've been 'pocketed twice on jeepneys in the Philippines, once in Manila and once in AC. They are experts at their craft and neither time did I feel the 'lift' although the second time I recognised the distraction technique of one of the trio but by that time it was too late and my wallet had gone. In neither incident did I lose much (never carry much in my wallet on the streets anyway) and in the second incident my otherwise empty wallet only had P200 in it - the team must have been gutted:D.
So if you ride the jeepney in AC, either keep your hand on your wallet, your main money stash secreted elsewhere (I use one the elasticated bandage thingies secured to my lower calf) or as Darth suggest grab the front pews, if free.
I have been out of the USA at least 70 times and never once have I carried a wallet. Why would do that? It has my driver's license, health insurance card, phone numbers of USA snatch, and other IDs.
I sometimes carry a photocopy of my passport, particularly in the Phils and I am always playing "pocket billiards" when I am there. That keeps whatever little money that I carry with me safe. The thieves thieves know what I am doing and so do I.
I take transportation on the safer carriers and wonder why others inquire about 50 peso vs. 70 peso trike rides. Dudes!!!! You are posting about less than 50 cents!!!! I would rather travel safely and secure
