Thats not the entire story. The individual did a whole lot more to her than just post her pics on the internet and im a leave it at that.

The pics weren't enough so she said he made physical threats to her which I believe is bullshit. Steve from Las Vegas was the novio and made her aware of the pics and either: a) cut her off or b)helped influence this incident.

The victims mistake was probably allowing her lawyer to "arrest" him and take him to to Puerto Plata Jail, he should not have went (was not physically forced to go) and called local contacts and Sosua police from the restaurant. Nothing more than another tourist shakedown, the pics only started the process.

I woulda spent the $2000 on the cops to let me get on the next plane.[/QUOTE]I know how you feel Sixpaku. I am in the legal field and was stunned when a few years ago I became aware that the D. R. Is governed by Old Spaniard law where "YOU ARE GUILTY TILL PROVEN INNONCENT"

Even though I allready new this when I heard this story it still shocked me and sent chills down my spine as to how vulnerable a tourist actually is in the D. R.

I left out a little something that shoked the guy who was giving me the details about this incident. Turns out he said that the chica was with her lawyer and a cop and that the lawyer had what he called a generic suponea that didn't even have this guys name on it.

I explained to him that this is not that unusual and is done here in the states as well it is called a John Doe warrant here where it has only a description on it.

I only know what I was told by a friend of this individual and felt it was something that I was obligated to pass on to any fellow mongers now in the D. R. Or going to go there. Something that we all should aware of.

Another guy has stated that the chicas down there are alll talking about how much money this chica got. These other chicas may start soon getting ideas as well as some lawyers as well if you know what I mean.

As I said this is the "SECOND" such incident I know of this year and the first one the charges made against the guy were totally bogus and yet he still had to pay more than the $2000 that this second guy did to settle the matter

Anyone that has any more info please feel free to share.

Put some black tape over the red light, LOL. I see alot of younger guys when i'm down there you have to use your brains, remember you are not in the united states, and these people do anything for money!

It sounds a little fishy but I guess you saw it. But I am wondering how could she prove it was him and who told her about the pictures on the net?
There's a lot of holes to the story??/??

Bail???? Please tell me that you're not serious. EVERY country is not the USA. Also, bail does no good, if they take away your passport, or hinder you otherwise from leaving the island. This happens quite often with rental cars and motorcycles returned damaged there.

It might've been a shakedown.

Or, it might have been true, and $2k was the cost of getting caught fucking up and making it go away. Either way, he shouldn't have put himself in that position.

I've never gotten why dudes feel the need to advertise online pics of these girls to these girls or other girls. I mean, what are they trying to accomplish?

I also remember years ago going into one of the Santo Domingo spots, having a cuba libre. Some gringo walks in with what appeared to be a list of spots and prices, AND pics of various girls and starts showing them around to the girls to find one particular girl. Mind you, he spoke very bad Spanish, so he was lost in translation. I got out of there quickly after finishing my drink, and by then, the house manager had grabbed the papers and started reading them too. I don't know how it turned out, but I could care less.

Ok I have been reading for months. Now it is time to actually visit. Please help with trip prep for my first visit to Sosua.

I just went to dr1 and couldn't find it on the message boards. Since you know the story can you put it into a short paragraph ? What did he do besides publish photos and how did she find out and why is this illegal?

I'm not posting nor abbreviating the story. Common sense and perspective, and a healthy bit of respect for where you are and who you're dealing with, was needed. Failure to administer that, and unfortunate consequences were meted out. Read it yourself there and make your own judgments.

Unfortunately, our buddy Tung might find himself with issues back in Quito due to one of these fucked up dudes ratting out pics. Check the board there. This monger game has really changed. No code at all.

I found it thanks. It sounds like more of a set up than anything else.

I found the cops to be pretty cool in the DR. I usually give them a nod when I walk by.

I did make the one mistake of helping a monger rid himself of a leech chica and I was on her shit list for the rest of my trip. I will have to deal with it when I go back. You have to try and diffuse any sort of flare up as soon as you can.

i was a little surprised though i know i shouldn't be at the amount of skepticism that my post was met with.

i am not personally insulted by the skepticism because i believe these individuals are skeptical for either one of two reasons.

the first reason is that they are totally lacking in street smarts. please i do not mean to insult anyone but if this pertains to you it might serve as a wake up call and a reality check.

there are allot of desperate people that live by their wits day to day on the fringes of existence in the dr and such circumstances sometimes produce some very strange bed partners and scenarios sometimes emerge where a cop a lawyer and a accuser collaborate and agree that the next tourist/gringo they see they are going to target and scam. i heard of one story a couple years ago where a guy was just walking down the street in santiago and a chica on the back of a cops motorcycle pointed to him and said that’s the guy who raped me! lucky for the guy he had just arrived in country hours before this accusation but still he spent the entire day in police headquarters and had to pay "his lawyer" who for reasons unknown was following both the officer and chica on the motorcycle in his car. go figure!

the second reason i believe some guys react with such knee-jerk skepticism ("sounds like there’s some holes in this story") is that it is a little scary to come to terms with the realization that on a bright sunny day your liberties could suddenly be taken away and you could just disappear and be alone in a dirty and dangerous place that nobody knows where you are or what happened to you. a place where you do may not be fluent in the language and that everyone. even your own lawyer will see you as a living breathing atm machine

i must admit that i am disheartened by some posters and their automatic assumption of some wrong doing on the part of the tourist involved/victimized by this scam. all things being equal when there are two conflicting accounts or version of an incident like this i will always take the word of the american or european tourist over the accusations of a dominican lawyer and his street prostitute client especially when it is money is the core issue involved.

i believe that such doubters engage in this type of character assassination of the victim for the above-mentioned reasons i had given. they want to believe that if this guy was somehow wrong then this could never happen to them and so i therefore "they" are safe or immune to this ever happening to "them". wrong that is an illusion. this could happen to any of us. and if it did happen to "you" how do you think you would feel if during this low moment the only people you hope would be on your side began to question your character as opposed to these con men.

when incidents like this happen we should circle the wagons, close ranks and support one another because in this type of guerilla warfare it is really us against them.
