It has now been reported that Bangkok bars HAVE now received last minute closure notices for tonight until Midnight. Many bar owners in Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy were caught short on this and were already preparing for business as usual. It is possible a couple of places in those venues will quietly stay open. Strange that this was not better scheduled and planned.

Changing the subject to soi 6/1, it is indeed a ladyboys only street but there's no need to avoid it like the plague. It is readily available as a nutritional supplement without a prescription in the US. I can't imagine what it has to do with hair transplants. Its purpose is for anti-aging, treatment for depression or BPH, and it is thought to increase your testosterone level by preventing it from being converted into other compounds as you age. Its effects on testosterone levels makes it sought out by people who are body building or looking to increase sexual performance as they age.

Yesterday early afternoon I went to Soi 6 for first time. Took a leisurely walk there but took Baht bus back. The Baht bus had a group of guys (presuming arab tourists) jump in and turned off Beach Road to drop them off, I hopped off and caught another. Landed in Bangkok in evening around 5 PM, immigration was easy due to less people took cab to pattaya for my hotel was damn tired to take a baht bus due to my flight delay.

Pattaya Pre-Trip Report.

I crossed the nation to visit various family members before arriving at LAX late Sunday night for the early morning departure to Bangkok via Taipai on EVA Airlines. I like EVA, having flown their Elite Class on my previous trips. For about $1,500 round trip, you get upgraded seating and food, and after 2 trips within a year, you get upgraded to Silver status and have access to the lounges. That is nice! Hanging around Taipei airport was the pits. The price is about double that of cattle class, but I am still amazed one can travel halfway across the world for even $1,500, so I hardly mind the added cost. Sheesh, some domestic airlines will charge that for a busy and popular trip only across the nation!

In making my reservations, I believed I had accumulated sufficient miles to upgrade one leg to Business class, but when I checked pricing, it appeared business class pricing was nearly cut in half! Slow season? I didn't know or care why, so I booked Business class! Reality struck when I got my credit card bill and the cost was twice what I expected, so how did I double book? Well, stupid me, I discovered what I thought was the round trip price was just for one leg. Ugh. I had book EVA 5 previous times and this was the first time I made that mistake! My head must have been thinking of sexy Thai girls when I hit the "buy now" button! I started to cancel and rebook for Elite class, but then I remembered looking at my 401 statement and decided I was old enough and I could well afford some luxury, so I stuck with business class. So I was excited about the trip, even having watched YouTube videos on EVA business class travel. And it was very nice to travel that way. I slept better and while the trip was hardly enjoyable, it was less of a drain than being in Elite class, and I can't imagine the trip in cattle class! Pattaya Trip Report, Day 1 (Friday).

I left the potential Trophy Wife at BKK to fly home. We had an interesting time. She likes me and I am unsure about her. But anyway, I had booked a limo with Nam the lady driver for 1200 TB (you can find her online). I love Bell Transportation, but they stink with transportation from BKK to Pattaya. You can't buy tickets at BKK, and to get them online you have to buy several days in advance. I failed to meet the time window and besides, the departure times have always been bad for me. It seems the bus always leaves just when I am ready to go, and the next bus is 2 hours away.

I have tried limo service previously, but never heard back from anyone when I tried to schedule. Nam answered promptly and it was a good experience. Not sure the driver was any less aggressive, but I felt safe and the car was sufficiently comfortable, though my butt was getting sore after 90 minutes. The only real downside was the long walk from the terminal to the parking area. With a taxi, they are out there waiting for you.

I arrived at the Dynasty Inn at about 4 PM. I have liked this place due its central location, but it's shortcomings are apparent after spending 3 nights at the Hyatt in Bangkok! No more luxuriously comfortable bed. But it is still a good mongering hotel at a quarter of the price. I soon enough headed out to Soi 6, my favorite stomping grounds. Due to this being the anniversary of the His Majesty the King's death, there was no music playing. It was still busy with people, and drinks were being sold, but it was quiet. I kind of liked it as I could carry on a conversation! So, after walking all the way down to the ocean side, I trun around and head back, trying to remember the names of several places where my favorites from last April were. This is part 3, following on from my previous post, this one is musings about gogo girls. The same disclaimer, these are my experiences and opinions, I do not claim they are definitive or will match everyone's experience. There is no substitute for reading more of these forums and making your own opinions in the field.

A lot of this may be subjective, but I hope it will generate some discussion to hear other opinions and experiences. I do have a few questions. But more of that later. Where to start?

The gogo girls' obsession with lady drinks. A never-ending source of frustration. I never understood why even when I said "here is a tip, stop it with the lady drinks" still, lady drink, lady drink. So I set out to get to the bottom of this. How does it work? Turns out a common system in gogo bars is a 10-day work contract for which a girl gets paid a salary of around 10,000. But there is a catch, to get the full 10,000 she must have 50 lady drinks in 10 days. If she has less, then she gets a penalty for each drink she is short. If she has more, she gets a small bonus for each drink extra.

So there you have it, if your girl is pushing like crazy for lady drinks, she is probably trying to make her quota. If you are trying to barfine a girl LT at 9 pm but she wants to have a few drinks first, that's why. And sometimes if she is really behind, she will not want to be barfined, but stay to try to make her drinks. It might seem like 5 drinks a night is an easy deal, and sure, for a popular girl in a busy gogo, no problem; on a good day, some can make 30 drinks. However, if two or three nights were slow, two or three nights she got barfined early, then all of a sudden things get tight.

That makes some sense, but then I wondered why buying drinks for the girl is not enough, immediately after you buy a drink you move on to "this my sister, buy drink for her", "this my best friend, buy drink for her", "this waitress my friend, buy drink for her", "oh, mamasan, she very nice, buy drink for her". And the next night, same girl, but new sister and best friend. This is basically the drinks mafia, she gets her guys to buy drinks for her friends, her friends get their guys to buy drinks for her, everyone wins, apart from you. Just keep in mind she has to be seen to ask for drinks for others, but if it is you who says no, then at least she tried and she doesn't lose favor.

I guess drinks for waitress and mamasan are just to get into their good books. The waitress and the mamasan seem to be equally happy with a small tip instead of a drink; I suppose they just earn a small amount for each drink they get, so a tip is just as good to them, but you can save a lot. Don't get me wrong, if your girl has a hot friend, or you want to have a party, or be nice to the mamasan (not a bad idea), then go right ahead. Just know what is happening.

I mentioned the 10-day contract, some girls may take a day or two off in between, some may move on to the next 10-day contract immediately. So if you have a favourite, you could try to line up your visit and spend some time with her between contracts. But this is not always up to the girl, the bar / mamasan also has to agree and it has to line up with the bar schedule and roster. There is competition to work in the top gogos and they call the shots.

Worth noting here, I think it was also mentioned recently in the forums, if you meet a girl on her day off in the bar where she normally works and you want to take her with you, you will have to pay the barfine. Some crazy convoluted logic there.

Each gogo has its own set of rules and there are often fines associated with breaking the rules. This is why you will hear a girl complain her feet hurt, but she will never take off her shoes, or why she will scramble to the stage when it's her turn to dance. The mamasan is always looking for transgressions.

What are the rules around the barfine? The mamasan will always ask you if you want to take the girl ST or LT and certainly the girl will ask you. However, the barfine does not change with your answer, so even if it seems the girl has to return to the bar after ST, make no mistake, once you pay the barfine the girl is under no obligation to return that night.

Girls will use that excuse to finish up ST as quickly as possible, "mamasan wait for me, have go back, big fine", but there is no such thing. They either want to go party or go back to the bar to make more drinks and try to get barfined again. I heard about a super popular girl in a bar, that sometimes she can go with three guys ST on the same night. Not a bad effort when the bar is open between 9:30 pm and 3 am. It was said with a lot of envy, so I would believe it. And she was pretty damn hot, too!

So how much does and can a gogo dancer earn? Well, if she works for a month in a gogo with a similar salary to what I mentioned and just makes her 50 drink quota each time, then 30,000. If on top of that she goes out for ST 2-3 times a week, then that's another 30,000. At least half of which is tax free. Not sure how good gogos are at declaring income for their girls, but even if they are on top of it for the full salary, the tax would still only be around 200 a month! So that brings us to 59,800 a month, after tax. .

Not a bad deal considering average monthly salary in Thailand is around 10-13,000. Sources vary here, but you get the idea. And what is the average salary in the poorer, Northern part of Thailand where most of the girls are from?

One could make the argument a girl may not get barfined 2-3 times per week. All I will say to that is: my last visit was certainly during the low season and, even so, at 2:30 am, near closing time, the popular gogos had about a third of the girls they had at 10 pm. A few times I tried to catch a particular girl, but every time she was either barfined already or in the process of being barfined.

How much can a sexy girl earn in a busy bar in peak season? Well, let's just say more than you or me! So who should be buying the drinks?

Just to be clear, not claiming every girl in Pattaya makes that kind of money, but just creating a little perspective about girls who know what they are doing and are working in the right gogos. It might even be possible to make a good living without having sex, just being barfined sometimes to eat or dance. Or to do this job for a few months a year while putting oneself through university.

Yet they are still obsessed with money. And despite what they say, somehow it always comes back to the money. Some stories might be in order.

Met this girl in a gogo and really hit it off with her, you know, sometimes you just click, had a lot of fun together. But then I had to go back home. We kept in touch over the next two or three months until I could come back. She said she missed me, all that, but didn't ask for money, a good sign. Then a week or two before my next visit it was her birthday. She said she was really sad, she was alone, no presents, her family was far away.

Finally, I was able to go back, I didn't tell her exactly when I was coming, wanted to surprise her. I just made sure she wasn't going on holidays just as I visited. I arrived fairly late and went to see her at her bar, she was not there. So I checked out a few other bars, went back around 2 am, and there she was. Clearly she had been out ST earlier. She told me she was out to eat, a lie, but OK.

Barfined her and took her back to the hotel. On the way I bought her some flowers and told her I had a surprise for her birthday. I had candles in the room, chocolates and some presents. It was quite romantic. She cried, she said nobody did something so nice for her. We cuddled and she asked if I wanted to have sex. I said no, told her it was her night and she is not working. I just kissed her and she fell asleep in my arms.

In the morning we woke up late and same deal, I said I didn't want sex, that we will have plenty of time for it later. Instead we went to eat, she was very friendly, we talked about the rest of the holiday, and so on.
