The concept of hostess bars is an import from Japan. Many Japanese businessmen will go to bars and spend hundreds of dollars for a girl to sit and talk and flirt with them for a little while. They even have a lot of hostess bars for women now too.

If this spreads heavily into SE Asia I think a lot of us will be enjoying ourselves a lot less. I guess some guys are into that, but if I want to pay a bunch of cash to get sexually frustrated I can just go back home and try dating American girls again.

I think we might have had our eye on the same bartender. If so, this girl is about a 9. You're right that she made the girls who were available (mostly 6-7s) seem unattractive in comparison.

Yeah, I'll be here a few more days and check and see if this is how it really is.

Almost forgot one piece of my story. I was in a bar on 104 (or possibly 136, it's all a blur now) and sat at a side table where of course I was swarmed by 4 hostess girls, none of which appealed. The one I was trying to make eye contact with was standing over at the end of the bar going through some receipts. I kept glancing over, she was busy busy busy. Hoping for a chance to wink or something, suddenly some young Brit (guessing he was about 24) at the bar slams his hand down on the bartop and yells over to the same girl (the one whose eye I'm trying to catch) "You have your war face on! I see you. I know." This he repeats about 4 times, slams his hand down once more.

Anyway, you can see how this trip is going.

I'd say yeah if it turns out to be true that these hostess bars are just a tease, well, it'd be the end of PP as a destination, for me at least. Just not enough talent at the old places anymore (Martini, etc.) and nothing new taking their place making up the difference. It's SO much easier to get hooked up in Thailand, even Vietnam is easier than this (tho both are more expensive). One thing that's changed at Martini for me is that a few years ago you could count on spotting at least some you hadn't seen before on almost any night. Not now. Same ones every night. You know there's nobody new gonna arrive after midnight, for example. In fact, if they're not there by 10pm, theyre not gonna be.

ps @ vlad impaler: thinking that an 18 years and 1 day old girl is any different than she was 2 days before is, at best, a justification for old and intellectually challenged guys like you who actually feel uncomfortable doing girls a third of their age. i'd feel uncomfortable too but then i wouldn't look for a stupid justification, i'd just go for older girls...

I have extensively played in SE Asia, and I assure you that I never shagged a teen . Just because 1) I don't like too young girls, and 2) whenever I have a doubt, I abstain.
I am sure I am not alone with this attitude.

In answer to one of your questions yes you can Barfine most of the girls in the hostess bars. Each bar has a different system now as barfines are not legal.

I think you will find many girls here in PP will not have IDs. That is just the way it is in Cambodia. It will be interesting to see what percent actually do. Many girls are physically very small here. It does take a bit of recalibrating your age radar. But it's not that hard usually.

Yes the girls do go out from the hostess bars. Some girls will go out and some won't. It can drive you a bit crazy at first. And a little crazy later. But there is little pressure for quick lady drinks. So before your start spending money on the girls start asking some questions. Unlike Thailand where baht usually always talks sometimes girls will go out with a younger nice looking guy and not with an older guy like me. When I'm in a hostess bar with a known expat I am approached much more than when I am an unknown quantity. BTW the exception hostess bar here is Shanghai which IMO serves no useful purpose. I think perhaps they have hostess bars in PP because they can't really have GoGos or such?

The first time I went into Le Cyrcee this trip I was mobbed by seven girls. The owner ran three of them off, including the most interesting one that I had to call back. The girls explained how things work there for me. But one of my harem was very good with English. I didn't notice the few cute Viets that were there a couple of years ago.

The bar now in the old Mikado location is called Solomon Club. At least that is what the sign says. The hotel next door is called Somaly Guest House I think.

As I said before, you don't need to check IDs. If in doubt, abstain. There are enough women on this earth, many of them in Cambodia, who look old enough so that you don't need to check their IDs

You're totally right. However there are still people who recommend to check IDs, although I think it is not even possible.

A bunch of hotels check IDs before letting girls go to your room, so if you are staying at one of them, checking IDs yourself seems to be necessary.

I think you are correct on all points.

A friend and I were in a hostess bar one night playing with three girls and there was a guy sitting next to us drinking his beer alone. We started up a bit of a conversation and he complained that he had been in town 3 days and couldnt get laid and did any of the girls even go and if so what was the system.

We both looked at each other a bit stunned then told him well we have these three girls but anyone else in the bar can be yours we called two girls over and immediately his world changed he was having fun. We gave him some advice on how much to pay and 30 min later he was out the door looking very happy.

Shanghai on the other hand is geared for newbie tourists. The girls here are much more forward and aggressive and will tell you anything you want to hear to get drinks but very few of them will go home with you. Many want you to barfine them and take them shopping or dancing but will nearly always find a way out of having sex with you.

gotta say i don't think i've enjoyed myself in cambodia. i've been sick my whole visit, which i'm sure has colored the experience, but here's my reasoning:

-there's jack shit to do -- no tourist sites. no, i don't want to see the fields they dumped dead bodies in. do they even have a movie theater here? if you're solo it's especially boring

-it's not even enjoyable to take a walk -- trash, tuk tuk drivers, beggars and other horrible things to look at

-a lot of the available girls are aggressive thieving drug addicts -- basically the exact opposite of what i'm attracted to

-a lot of the available girls are **** -- i'm not in the hardcore, castrate dudes for sleeping with 17 year olds camp, but i don't want to have to worry about getting myself in trouble, and i don't want to watch very young innocent little girls getting groped by old dudes

-i haven't had one decent meal -- there are a couple ok places on sisowath, but you're paying western prices


the only positives have been that i find the girls to be very pretty, and heart of darkness is pretty cool and has some good djs.

maybe i'll enjoy it more on a fully healthy 2nd visit while bringing a friend with me, but at the moment i'm just chilling in my hotel room saving my energy for my return to thailand.

And taking my first Monger trip.

I will be in Vietnam and Cambodia in a few weeks.

Any advise and is anyone around that wants to meet up?

There are tons of things to do in Cambodia.

Sim Reap? Granted, Thailand tends to be more monger friendly.

But I enjoyed my visit to Cambodia in December.

agreed. eating ain't easy in cambodia. what the locals eat is cheap but boring and tends to make me sick.
