Germany and France call out USA over LNG, Qatar not breaking LNG contracts
If France diverts gas to Germany it will hurt the French inflation crisis and causes prices in France to rise and increase the number of people on strike. Germany will just use its reserves until December 20, then at that point the USA and Qatar will be delivering liquefied natural gas to the terminal which was built at light speed due to the German environmentalists being unable to object since environmentalists love Ukraine for some reason.
There is not enough global LNG supply. Ramping up the capacity and building energy infrastructure will take years, and EU industries will either be on life support or collapse in the interim. The key point to understand is that EU is paying exorbitant prices for this LNG on the spot market. It is not like there is all this new LNG that just magically appeared since February 24. Over 75 percent of the LNG cargoes in Europe were diverted from Asia. The EU's last-minute scrambling for natural gas would be the equivalent of trying to buy a last minute ticket on a fully booked December 24 outbound flight. You have two options: (1) show up at the terminal and bribe other passengers, or (2) hope that the airline "breaks the contract" with pre-existing passengers and sells their ticket to you. In both cases, you would need to pay significant markup.
On Friday, Macron called out US and Norway as energy producers who make “the real superprofits” benefitting from “geopolitical war unearned income.” He said he has discussed the topic “in a friendly way” with his US and Norwegian counterparts.
During a parliament debate, French finance minister Bruno Le Maire criticized the US for selling liquefied natural gas to European companies at “four times the prices at which it sells it” domestically. He was echoing previous comments by Macron, who has said that EU should join with Asian economies to demand that the US and Norway show greater friendship by selling gas at lower prices.

“Some countries, including friendly ones, sometimes achieve astronomical prices for their gas. Of course, that brings with it problems that we have to talk about,” Economy Minister Robert Habeck told regional German paper NOZ in an interview published Wednesday which was translated by NBC News.

So when we sign with an Asian buyer or European buyers, we stick to that agreement," Kaabi, who is also state minister for energy, told reporters.
"So the volume that will go to Europe is what has been assigned," he said. "But as far as taking from Asian buyers to take to Europe (that) will not happen."
