Its only in 1950 (I read) where they decided to use it to celebrate the birth of the Buddha, so its very clear that it is just a chosen day to make the celebration.
Just the same as 25th December is chosen by Christians. Now Easter is celebrated on vastly different dates each year according to the moon. Does that make any real sense?
Who cares? Wisakha Bucha is just a day for a religious holiday. Not very amazing at all. I spell with an English W (not a German one) as Thai language has no letter / sound equivalent to English V and they can't pronounce it. Just like Sukhumvit road should be pronounced Sukhumwit (and "u" is as in input).
Look at Germany (Frankfurt).4 different separate public holidays in May this year. Does that make a lot of sense? Why not spread them out accross the year better? Okay We just accept the way it is.
Personally I would rather have no public holidays in the year. Its just a nuisance day when I am told I cannot work, whether its convenient to me or not.
