.[/QUOTE]If you are uneasy about chatting up girls in pubs / clubs, you could consider just being a regular in a local restaurant or convenience store, and try and get the same girl to serve you regularly. She will soon become intrigued at the attention, and is likely to respond to your interest.

No issue with that, but absolutely they would be pissed if I tried to pay them.

Nagoya gets a bad rap from a lot of visitors for lack of carnal options. If you're a casual visitor, there for only a week or two, I would agree. However, if you live there as a foreigner, its a completely different story. I imagine Tokyo would be even better.

You just had to do it, but in a discrete way. Don't be the guy that goes from table to table propositioning every girl in the bar, but find a way to make it discrete.

Hit up the speed dating event in Nagoya. That worked out really well.

Additionally, if you learn a few Japanese words, I found that a lot of the girls want to help you out.

Modern technology has taken away many opportunities of random pick ups with a few little white lies. Back in the "old days" a couple of my favourites were:

Has some good info though, as most of it is relevant, based on my experience, and that of my friends. When you have good wingmen who also enjoy the chase, it helps. For us it almost turned into sort of a game and it was sort of automatic once you had it figured out. The first few times it was awkward, especially when you're used to dealing with western women, but after that its easy. I haven't been there in quite a while, as I'm spending most of my time in Thailand these days, but I can't imagine much has changed.

However, there always used to be some Chinese streetwalkers on the other side of Nagoya station, and in Sakae. I'm not sure if it's still the same, but you're more than likely to get scammed than anything else. Beware.
