How is the crime situation currently in Nuevo Laredo? I read the daily email from Borderland Beat and occasionally see items in Nuevo Laredo and Piegras Negras. Is Boys Town in dangerous territory? I'm just thinking about it now for colder weather. I last visited the area in 2003.

Thanks for the eye opening comments. As I understand, the cartels are hijacking commercial trucks and buses, creating street blockades and inserting trauma into the hearts of the Reynoseros. That means I would be putting myself in dangers path simply by riding the bus through Reynosa. I think I will plan a trip to Monterrey instead now.

A round trip plane ticket is about 350 which would pay for several escorts here in San Antonio. I think since reynosa is the worst border to cross, I am going to continue looking to Nuevo Laredo to monger. Possibly even find a girlfriend from a dating site. I could be there in less than 3 hours and plus it's cheaper than Laredo on the US side. Crime statistics have been going down in Nuevo Laredo so hopefully we won't see crime increase there anytime soon.

Less than US $20, takes about 3 hours.

You want to cross the border to play, but just order room service online. You don't want to go out to clubs and are concerned with discrimination for being a US citizen. You are also (wisely) concerned about safety.

Now, if you have business or some other reason to go, well OK. If not it reads like it it maybe wasn't meant to be.

Tried a new hotel in NL. Best western its a couple blocks east from hotel colon plaza. Very girl friendly with out the weird looks from receptionist like at the colon plaza. Had 4 different girls in and out all night. Not a single problem with that. AC was not the greatest and shower wasn't the warmest. Considering I purchased executive suit that was a little disappointing. Other then that it was great. I know I've stated in past the rides from trucker shuttle is always been a great and reliable. After stating he would pick me up in the morning from Mexico and bring me back. He left me stranded to find my own way back. I do not recommend using his services any longer. There a guy named David on CL that offers better deal and very prompt on picking you up at any hour of the day or night to and from the bridge at less than 1/3 the price of a taxi he charged me 13 for ride from the x 12 truck stops to bridge 1. And does rides for much less for shorter distances. I'd highly recommend using him to save on cost and have that readability and reliable that is hard to find.

Thanks![/QUOTE]$80 is about the average for that hotel, but add about $14 a night for taxes, Making it About $94. Reading his previous posts you will see that he mainly picks up girls from Boystown, Marthas and Safari.

It was one of the upper levels they have 14 floors I think and had an amazing view of nuevo Laredo and in the distance Laredo Texas. I paid in cash and it came with an amazing breakfast buffet for 2.2 of the girls I already knin from past visits to BT. One drove her self there other took a taxi. One was a friend of one and we picked her up in a taxi. And the other I met in BT.

Also, is there a time when one should not cross over to Mexico, for example after dark? Are the taxis who wait on the Mexican side trustworthy to not get kidnapped?

Thanks![/QUOTE]Crossing back to the US depends on the hour, mornings the line can get quite long. The earlier the better. Crossing into Mexico is safe. Cabs are safe. Things are calm right now, but that could change tomorrow.

Thanks![/QUOTE]Crossing over to Mexico is on foot is very easy and I've never had a delay. You need 75 cents to cross. The taxi are trustworthy in Mexico. A taxi will cost you about 80 pesos depending on how many stops you need. I paid a taxi 500 pesos and he drove me every place I wanted to go. Picked up girls and stayed in BT and waited hour or more to granted that we had a taxi when I we wanted to go to the hotel. Made runs to the point for the girls party favors. Went grabbed beer. Made pharmacy run and waited You name it they will do it if your paying. Getting back is not difficult at all but you will need at least government picture ID. Passport is not needed but is slightly quicker with one. I don't have a passport. Longest I waited in line walking back to Texas was 30 minutes. Only thing about crossing into mexico after dark is on the weekends you might take you a few places to find a room. The hotels start to fill up fast. Nuevo Laredo pretty safe as long as your not looking for trouble as trouble is not looking for you there. If you go to BT late check out pollman. If before midnight try out Martha and Safari. Avoid the dark areas and use good judgement and you will be ok and have an great time.

The Mexican army says soldiers found a cache of 94 assault rifles and 30,000 rounds of ammunition in the border city of Nuevo Laredo, across from Laredo, Texas.

The Defense Department says a patrol detected a group of armed individuals fleeing from a house Friday. It says the soldiers found the assault rifles, three. 50-caliber sniper rifles and grenade launchers at the scene.

The department says the weapons and 20 military-style uniforms belonged to a drug cartel, but did not say which one.
