Medellin Reports

I have been going to Colombia for over 11 years and over the past 3 years, I have been at least once a month. I can think of maybe two times that I was ever asked. The first time I said I had so many stamps because my ex-wife is from Colombia, which is true. The second time I simply said I had a girlfriend. Not really true per se, but my favorita is close enough. I could also honestly say that I like the climate and the people and the weather. I have never been asked a follow up question and pretty much always glide through immigration/customs with my global entry.

MED Trip 2.

June 2017.

Fri.

This time I drove to Miami and took VivaColombia Airlines, $220 RT, $6 a day parking near airport.

Had a wingman this time off the USSG, we took the $3 bus to Hotel Botero from airport.

Fri night, me & wingman (SandStorm) walked to Barre Ejectiva around 8 ish from Hotel Botero, 20+ girls with more arriving every minute, mostly 6 & 7's, a few 8's.

Picked busier roads with more foot traffic. I think you probably meant Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the officers who perform passport control at US points of entry. These officers can detain you if you are a citizen and deny you entry if you are not a citizen. But only for cause.

Evidence or admission of having violated USA Law, including violations committed outside the USA, constitutes cause. You can answer questions honestly without raising suspicion. The traditionally accepted answers to questions about frequency of travel to certain destinations are:

- business (often followed up with "what do you do for a living".

- visit friends (sometimes followed up with questions about how you met, the friends' name).

- visit family (less frequently followed up with "cousin, in-law etc. ?

The officers focus on gauging your reaction and looking for signs of nervousness, aggression, and / or deception. If you exhibit any, the follow up questions will come. Basically, the more frequent your visits, the more attention the agents pay. For example, a frequent visitor who says his occupation is a minimum wage job will raise all kinds of red flags as a possible drug mule or other shady activity. There has to be some logical explanation for being able to spend hundreds of dollars in airfare. Another suspicious sign would be someone who was away for several weeks but is traveling with only a small backpack. I hope this helps.

I have never had this type of third degree bullshit coming back from Latin America but I sure got it coming back from Thailand. It's just another example of why I don't like my native country very much any more. This whole US mindset of why would you want to go anywhere else makes me want to puke. It's quite a large and interesting world out there, in my opinion.

I live in Chicago and I only go to Colombia when it's cold and miserable in Chicago.

Whoever brought up dancing is out of touch. The Salsa scene in any large US City blows away that of MDE.

About 5% were enjoyable. A few questions, maybe a joke or two, followed by a "welcome home."

The remainder were split between ICE agents having a bad day and ICE agents on a power trip. For the ones on a power trip, all they want is to intimidate you. They are looking for any excuse to flex their muscles. My advice, don't give them one.

Keep it simple. "I went for vacation. " If they ask why Colombia, tell them "it's a beautiful country. Have you ever been there?" Tell them you can get a great hotel and eat 3 full meals a day for $50 and still have money left over for the metro. Tell them about the climate. If they ask about drugs, if you're my age "I'm too old for that. " That answer also works when they ask about women.

The "I go there to fuck hookers" approach might work with a few, but if you get the wrong agent, prepare for a very long, unpleasant delay. You're being a smartass to a bully who already despises you and 100% of the power is on his side. He can justify any action taken against you. Why give him an excuse?

If you are in Leticia, then mongering is not the reason why you are here. There are tons of excellent places in Colombia filled with gorgeous chicas and much better weather. However, if you are looking for a girlfriend for the night after exhausting trips to the jungle there are places you can visit here.

There is a place called Excalibur Bar, pink color, one story building on La Frontera (Internacional Ave) between Calle 7 and 8, right in front of the convenience store. There are two places with girls sitting in the chairs in front, bar and private rooms are in the back. It's a short walk from the hotel district in Leticia, no need for a cab, place is fairly safe, even at night. There are several stores across the street and a night food stall. You can also take a cab for 2-3 K from the center of Leticia, if you stay by the river. Talent on hand is mostly brought over here from Medellin and Cali to work for few months, about 10 to choose from, ranging from 4-8. Since there is not much competition cost are far higher than in BOG, it will cost you 80 K and there is not much room for negotiations.

Further down the street as you cross into Brazilian town of Tabatinga are few places on the left as you cross the border, but they appeared dodgy and unsafe. There is a huge local dance parties in Tabatinga if you happen to be there during the weekend, place is called Compra, if I remember correctly. Any cab from Leticia can take you there. 15 min drive for 30 K. It is for sure a sight to see, and if your Portuguese is good you might get lucky.

Stay in Leticia, on Colombian side, much more pleasant then Tabatinga.

Gardenias, just get a city tour from a taxi driver (15 k COP or less) and he will drive you past it. I walked by one night (I was already occupied with a non-pro Paisa I met on a jungle tour) and there were about 20-25 chicas working and maybe 10 mongers. It is important to note that every bar / restaurant / nightclub here is an open-air outdoor affair without air conditioning, and the heat and humidity here is oppressive.

My worst shakedown ever was leaving Barcelona for the US ten years ago. Those Spanish agents gave me the third degree even asking for the addresses of my friends. I just gave them the addresses that I remembered of the places I had visited.
