Muchas gracias on Palawan
"Never go on trips with anyone you do not love."-Ernest Hemingway (from A Moveable Feast).
Palawan for 5 days a long time. Long, hard minivan ride from P. P. To el Nido, which is a dump of a town, infested by Israelis with their atrocious, rip-off restaurants. The underground cave tour is nothing special and can include hours of waiting for your 15 minutes inside the thing. The island hopping trip around el Nido was no better than others we've done elsewhere. For girls: bring your own: one who's never been there; you don't need a tour guide.
Good to know, all around. Drama, as it turns out, has erupted online with the intended target. I believe she is fighting with another of her tricks on FB. Better him than me! Right now my debate is whether to continue with plans (Kunming, China to Manila via Guangzhou -- 9 hours of flying plus the airport time) and stick with Manila (Burgos, Makati whatever) and a few days in AC. Or back to Pattaya (two hour flight to BKK), where the action is always guaranteed. Thai vs. Phils looks are a wash to me, but I do like the possibility of girls speaking English. Choices, choices. Thanks again.
So you want to bang bang Sabang! Part 1. The boring bit.
So you want to bang bang Sabang!
Just back from Sabang, near Puerto Galera, Island of Mindoro. Had a nice time but unless diving the place can become very same ol' same ol' very quickly. Thus the writing of this TR.
The good thing about Sabang is that everything is very close, a matter of fact, due to boredom and for research purposes I walked from furthest point south to furthest point north and that took 24 minutes. At any given time you are 7- 10 minutes away from where you need to go: both a blessing and soon I found out an issue. Also not much to do during the day after diving, island hopping, snorkelling, a few day trips, an adventure park and a golf course. My thinking 7 to 10 days is enough.
Generally speaking accommodation is ok if you stay at the best places, food is surprisingly good if you eat at once again the recommended places and mongering is ample. There is a strong Asian presence here, especially Korean, and there "mongering habits" are refined down to an art form so if you want the pick of the crop you have to play the same game as them (more about that later).
So let's get the basics out the way first and the stuff you really want to know about (the girls) later.
Where and how to get there?
Fly into Manilla then get bus (286 peso) to Batangas Pier. (best option leave from Jam Buendia Bus Terminus, Pasay- close to airport) or Private Van form hotel to Batangas Pier (3,000 3,500 peso). Roughly 2 3 HR trip depend on traffic.
At Batangas Pier (not Batangas Bus Terminal) let official porters grab you and escort you to ticket counter. Ignore scammers who suggest private banca (boat) to wherever. At Minolo Shiping Lines or Father & Son Lines counter buy ticket (230 peso boat ticket plus environmental fee 50 peso + terminal fee 30 peso) Have small notes as when reach Sabang also fee there too for something about 50 peso again) Before you go check Father & Son website for departure times but realize these are variable. Get there 10/11 sure to be in Sabang by 1 ish. Banca boat takes 45 minutes to 1 hour to go across Verde Passage.
Options of private banca boat or seaplane too. Can go via White Beach, Muelle Pier etc.
Coming back repeat Can get van from Batangas Pier to airport 3,200 peso. BUT last banca at 2 pm.
So you're on banca boat going to the island of Mindoro and land at Sabang.
Sabang is smaller port to Puerto Galera. Most people (Asians & other) come here to dive. If you don't dive that's ok but as I said life can get pretty boring during the day. (opinion).
Accommodation lots to choose from wide range of budget to ok. Best I found Mermaid Hotel, Montani Resort, El Galleon Resort but do your homework. Use booking sites or book direct. High season would book before, low season lots of choice but found walk ins were not cheaper than on line by a great deal. Opinion stay a little out of the village south near Tina's place is quiet yet close enough (everywhere is close enough).
Basic Sabang Village and surrounding area layout (notice I said village not town) Sabang is made up of 3 small bays. The main village is where the boats come in from Batangas. Walking north you have Small La Laguna Bay and Big La Laguna Bay like I said 24 minutes south to north along foreshore. If you start at furthest point south (Tina's Place) 5 min walk to main village 13 min walk to Small La Laguna and 24 min walk to Big La Laguna so if you are in the middle approx. 12 min walk to anywhere. So just walk everywhere in and around Sabang.
Transport (if you need to go PG / White Beach etc): Motor Bike Hire or Taxi, Jeapney (20 peso to PG) Trike (300 peso most places) A / see van. Didn't use. Roads are pretty bad so if hire motorbike up to you. At night = crazy!
Food. Many choices- food suprisingly good.
Best. Mermaid Hotel, Big Apple, Pa Pa Fred's Steakhouse (expensive) Western dishes, Korean, Pizza & Pasta, Ice Cream place just opened up. Meals Breakfast 300- 400 peso, lunch 400/500 peso (bar meals) Dinner 500- 700 peso + Got a steak meal at Big Apple for 550 peso.
Cheap Filipina food available too at canteens / outlets. Coffee is crap, bread is crispy roll type, do the old order and see what comes and decide do you like the Filipino version of that food then reject or order in future. BUT. Meals sometimes take ages to come out. Waited 45 minutes once. Standard wait time minimum of 25 minutes.
More to follow.
So you want to bang bang Sabang Part 2: More background. Failing to plan.
Ok I'll get to the good stuff soon but bear with me.
When to go. Best time Dec / Jan they tell me. Been there in March = hot, Been there in June / July = bloody hot esp 10 am to 4 pm. During Monsoon season sometimes afternoon or night storms. I was worried about Typhoon but even if it strikes Sabang is quite protected and buildings solid. Only problem " could be " crossing Verde passage in rough weather. Check weather reports 2 days before leaving Sabang. I wouldn't let possible Typhoon put you off low season visitation. Hot weather between 10 and 4 does put you off doing anything else besides in front of air con drinking but depends how you handle the heat.
Crime, safety, scams. Found Sabang, White Beach, PG very safe. Amazed at how people left things around and no stealing took place. (but don't get lax) OBVIOUSLY with everything = KNOW PRICES before you go. Good idea to find a vendor and befriend them and let them do the legwork for you re prices for boats, transport, tours etc. Use hotel staff to recommend prices too. Generally found low scam level. Porters at piers can be pushy. Be prepared to give a firm NO. Everybody else "offers" their services and accepts no ok. Girl scams later. Safe at night, Tourist police are there too on most nights middle of Sabang Village.
Other. Doctor, dentist, Pharmacy on Island, ATM at top of main road out of Sabang near Jack Daniels Hotel (maybe 8 min walk from Sabang Pier) - ATM can go off line, only spits out 10,000 peso so plan. I found bring US dollars / Aust dollars best. 3 Money Changes in main street. Reliable.
When not mongering what to do: SCUBA (of course), snorkeling. All 3 bays but Big La Laguna is best, lay on beach. Only sand section is at Big La Laguna (beach approx 300 m X 10 m wide), Island hoping (boat 1500 peso for 3 hours), day trip to White Beach, Day trip to Tamara Falls (3,500 peso).
Massage 400/500 peso (proper), foot scrub, etc There is an adventure park but didn't go, and a golf course didn't go.
Ok lets get to it: the bars, the girls:
My overall impression of Sabang is nice place to visit once or twice, plenty of supply (on any given night 250 girls to choose from), many 6, 7 and 8's, very few 9 & 10's and these are quickly whisked away by Koreans especially.
I have spent all together 5 wks here at various times and without sounding racially biased and discriminatory but it would appear that Asians and especially Koreans have "tainted" the market and girls performances are not what I would call GFE most of the time.
The usual night scenario is this (and this is what you are competing against) The Asian "sharks" watch the girls walk to the bars at 5:30/6 pm. (some even meet the boats coming in to get the fresh meat) After picking out their chosen target they follow them to the bars and barfine them ASAP. They take them to a restaurant and let them splurge on whatever food and alcohol they want and sit there like King Sh*t mostly ignoring the girls drinking and eating food. After this back to hotel room where the famous 333 happens, they fall asleep, wake up in morning buy them breakfast, tip them high and let them toddle off home.
Now if you're a bar girl, its bloody easy money. Good food, 3 min sex with 3 inch cock, guaranteed 3000 peso with probable 1000 peso tip too. Little effort = big reward. For Asians most girls tell me all they have to do is lay there.
Along comes Australian, American or European and bargirls say WTF I have to work because we won't put up with a starfish and you know which is easier option.
I was interviewing one bargirl at Quantum one night who was giving me a list of what she doesn't do or doesn't like. Now I'm no kinky sex freak but come on honey its a service based industry.
So unfortunately I found on the whole the service was very average as girls have gotten used to servicing sections of the worlds population who have too much money and at home have too little sex. I think you get my drift of what I think of "them" and what they are doing to the market.
Prices: all bars 1500 barfine and 1500 to girl (don't give Mamasan the 3000 straight up) There is no ST & LT- 3000 usually means till next morning. I tip 500 -1000 depend on performance (up to you).
Not many freelancers around but they go for 1000 - 1500. Scattering of ladyboys if that's your thing.
Depending on which bar girls get " pap smeared" every month or 15 weeks. (make of that what you will). The bargirls knowledge of STD and even girls issues is very limited. Generally speaking their knowledge of everything in the world is very limited.
Mamasans and Papasans can be very mean to the girls. Girls live in communal houses or out the back of the bar. What surprised me is that even 10 pesos is a big deal for most girls.
Ok that's enough for now. Detailed report on bars and girls coming next.
