If they are aware that they will get a propina for great service then. Kapow! (most times anyway).
Interesting perspective Turgid. To each his own as they say. I know after being in the p4 p scean for a bit over 20 years now my attitude and approach has changed.

They can use that extra tip how they see fit, even if it is to cover THEIR quota for drinks.

In HK, there is one girl who I like to chat with and she tells me not to buy her a ficha because they cost to much money and she drinks water. She tends to sit with me for 5 minutes, then move about, and then return to chat with me for another 5 minutes. That cycle continues all the time I'm in the bar (unless I'm with another girl). Every now and then I take her upstairs or give her a tip. She simply doesn't want me to buy her the ficha drinks.
I enjoy chatting with the girls and learning whatever I can about their world. But mostly, I see the ficha process as a way to learn if she is going to be fun arriba. I figure each ficha typically costs me $10 ($8 for drink, $1 for waiter, $1 for girl); in my mind that is money well spent. After all, the trip arriba is going to cost about $80 to $100 ($60 to $80 girl + $18 room + $1 robe + $1 cumboy).
Edit - I just quoted what I typically pay in HK. I usually pay a little less in AB.
It wasn't always that way. It started around the recession with less newbies crossing. The consensus is the service fell off. Plus PLM diluted and poisoned their brains.

Adelita's focuses on the Hispanic customers and the staff made no attempt to speak in English when using the PA system. I would say on Halloween and the Day of the Dead, the average female in Adelita's fell in the 6-7 range with a few 8's, and perhaps one 9. There were no 10's in sight like others reported on here. I observed the movement and people for about 45 minutes. Lots of costumes everywhere for Halloween. Far more men than women to say the least.
The announcer started talking with me and offered his recommendations. He pointed out several of the females he said preferred to get lady drinks instead of going upstairs. Sure enough she would try to get every man in the bar to buy her drinks. Had several offers to immediately go upstairs from the rather pushy / bold girls who weren't all that attractive and outside the size I prefer women. The number of larger females in Adelita's surprised me. Some of them looked Amazonian in size as compared to the females I would pass when on the street. The announcer indicated each female acts as a private contractor and chooses with whom she desires. However, my point was that lots of guys think they are "chiseling the house" by enriching the girl, via direct contributions, and cutting out the middleman. In the real world it's likely that this plan will still benefit the house (the house always wins) and the girl doesn't receive the intended benefit.
As an aside, tipping is an extremely annoying American trait. They drag it everywhere they go, like some sort of economic Ebola. It spreads even faster and infects everybody it comes into contact with. That's why everyplace with any sort of gringo service sector has everybody with their hand out, expecting a tip. That's a rant for another day, but it has a bearing on the following paragraph.
IMHO, buying a couple of ridiculously overpriced ficha drinks (about $20) kills two birds with one stone. Maybe three. You get to "interview" the girl. You contribute to fulfilling her ficha quota. She'll get $6 ($3 x 2) for the two drinks, which is a propina far more in line with Mexican standards than a $20 tip at the end. You haven't saved any money, but the money has been spent in a more effective manner.
Everybody is free to do as they like. But, as with many things in the Zona, reality often has no resemblance to the fantasy playing out in one's head.
Yes. I admit that I used to do this. But after I noticed that the girls were indifferent to a tip thereafter, I stopped trying to impress them with a tip. My theory is that Chicas are still women, and they prefer a piece of your time. Or they prefer to know you a little before fucking you. What ever the case, I admit that I buy a chica a drink not to just interview them but let them know more about me. And the sex is waaaayyyyy better because of it. Let me put it this way, I've had multiple Chicas inviting me to dates away from the club. I never got that from being a big tipper or spender.

Decided to give Adelita's Bar a second try after reading more reports and responses. Went during the week and in the early afternoon when there were fewer patrons. Several girls approached who didn't have the desired looks (the rather large ones). They seemed quite aggressive and some even assertive but all took the hint when stating an empathetic "no. " I advise not sitting down until you find a girl you like. Some poor gringo had a very unattractive girl sit at his table and was stuck with her.
Finally found a chica who called herself Teresa. She claimed to be 25 but looked a bit younger. About 5'3" tall and one of the prettiest faces I have seen with curly long black hair that went down below her shoulders. About a "B" cup and hips a bit more than perfect, but good nonetheless. No tattoos on her body. Asked me upstairs for $60 plus the room. The rooms were larger and a bit less expensive than Hong Kong. Everything was covered for all positions and she was better than average at everything she did. Claimed to have worked for a few months and lived 100 kilometers south. Said she had two children and goes back and forth to work. She acted extremely polite and spoke decent English.

She claims there were no quotas, no BJ's to the managers, no secret room upstairs (complete with bed) the managers use gain favors with the chicas, etc.
Either she is covering up (which I see no reason to as she has not worked in months and no intention near term of going back), or management looks over the chicas and the "producers" are not subject to sanctions.
I can also confirm that she worked a total of 3 days since May, going through the process of renewing her health card and all but said there was never any mention of having to work 3 week days in order to qualify to work a weekend. She is one fine chica so I can understand management giving her a long leash (as I do) while welcoming her back, no strings attached.
P.S. - I now see this was under Adelita not HK so maybe the quota does apply there. Just consider my post for HK.

There are $80 fines if you miss the minimum work days weekly.

In other words there is discrimination that can and does run rampant, yet for 90 plus percent of the chicas these quotas apply.
Just as we can't and don't take what comes out of a chicas mouth as the gospel truth, we as well cannot take what comes out of bar managements mouth as being any more reliable.
1 example is how bars change the rules several times per year, such as 2 for one beers at LC or Tropical, buy a beer to enter HK days of week and time of day always changing, some get backpacks checked at the door and pay 2 dollars fee, others just skate on in to the club. I could go on and on but have better things to do. LOL.
First off. I have about 17 years of visiting AB and other bars in the Zona, this being said however in the past 3-5 years my visits have been limited to 3 or 4 a year with yesterdays visit being my 3rd of this year.
I have seen the cycles / rotation of girls of the past almost 2 decades, all the changes, the renovations, the pricing fluctuation, the change of tides (example CC to HK) and I get the fact that given the time of year and sometimes you just hit some rough & lean spots with regards the quality and services of the workers, this all being said my visit yesterday to Trop. , CC, AB, the SW and HK has given me reason to pause and reflect, with the back bar renovation going on at AB it was hot as hell and you could not circulate around, top it off is that the quality of chicas at BOTH AB, the Trop and HK are IMHO mediocre at best.
Am I just done with the Tijuana scean in general? I had planned to stay through Sunday but when I awoke this morning in my Tijuana hotel room there was nothing keeping me there. Maybe it is the hassle of driving down from LA in traffic to a hot and sweaty AB and then to find the quality of chicas poor.

Those are the official rules but if you are a proven moneymaker or favorita of management then the rules bend for you. But I wouldn't describe it as discrimination, but rather favoritism.
