I notice over a month ago that DR1 copied our map.

About BQ idea I post on other regular forums and some have a "sticky" area. On this area the useful info is posted and mantained at the beggining of the forum. Instead of a reports of distinction thread I reccomend a sticky area where useful info as for example currency conversion, places of interest, maps are always found in the same place.

I added a pin to the movie theathers that are near malecon center, almost in front of Adrian tropical. The pin has a link to Caribbean Cinemas webpage so you can see the movies they are showing.

Your math is correct but I usually do not include the tax on calculation because phone companies gives you 20% free minutes plus other discounts depending on comsumption so the 10 peso you calculate is reduced to 7 or 8 pesos with the free minutes. This is 2 pesos over the 6 pesos you can get on a calling center but portability is going to save you time and money on other items . On flex plans yo get a peso per minute on weekends, plus a discount to a favorite phone. Hotel room phones charges as much as 25 pesos per minute.

Claro Control plan offers 1 peso calls on nights and weekends so considering taxes and discounts you get 33 minutes per dollar. if you do not redeem the "free" minutes then you get 28 pesos per dollar nights and weekends.

Anyway, phone service on DR is expensive, they do not have an unlimited plan option to customers.

Just back to the states from a short trip to DR. This was my second visit to the island so things were more familiar which makes DR an easier place to negotiate.

Me and a buddy stayed at Mystik. It has the obvious advantage of being close to a lot of action and the hotel is girl friendly. The a/c in my room worked great, hotel security and staff were all more than adequate during my stay. Breakfast was included in the price of $55 USD.

The main reason I decided to write this report was our side trip to Boca Chica. I had not been before, so after having spent several days in the city it was nice to finally get out and see more of the island. We used the same guy that picked us up at the airport. He had charged us $40usd to pick us up at the airport and take us directly to the Mystik. We felt like he overcharged us last trip and did the same again this time. He charged us $80usd to drive us from Mystik to Boca Chica and back. He did wait on us as well, we were at the beach for about 4 hours.

While at the beach we ate a a pizza joint, I have no idea the name, but the food was okay, we had a girl come offer us a massage while we were there, were several other girls that made it known they were available. This was on Sunday afternoon and the beach was pretty packed. We went for a walk on the beach afterwards and stopped at another place to have a presidente, while there a young girl that worked there propositioned us so the women were very aggressive. I have not seen so many young women with old men in my life.

We ended up meeting three girls while walking down the beach. One was not good at all but the other two were cute. My friend was chatting up the one girl in his broken spanglish while I was trying to communicate with the other one. Funny enough, she scribbled the number 1500 in the sand. They were from Santo Domingo as well, so they took the bus back and then a taxi to our hotel. Our guide hammered out the details in spanish.

The funniest part, they all three showed up and were sitting at the bar, I got my girl and my buddy got his leaving the big girl sitting at the bar. When I was done we went to my friends room only to find out one of our other friends took the big girl from the bar. The other two girls seemed shocked to find that she was not in the bar waiting for them.

I recommend DR for sure, I enjoyed this trip more than the first and look forward to going again.

after exploring sosua, pop, santiago, san pedro, and constanza i finally returned to sd for my last day in this country before my flight departure. stayed at hotel discovery, next to independence park, girl friendly, got quoted 2000 dp. i enjoyed the huge ceiling fan in my room which kept me sweat free during my bunda pounding session.

i was in no mood to go out as i was becoming depressed thinking about 30 degree weather back home. called some girl i met in sosua last weekend, she lives in villa mella and was quick to take the moto ride and wait for me at pacos. drank some beers and went straight to the bedroom for some gfe action, busted one last nut and let her go with $1500.

i had a small car accident in santiago, hit the corner of my front bumper into the back of an old publico, a mid 80's corolla without functioning break lights. i didn't want any problems so kept driving. back in santo domingo, asked my taxi driver friend to take me to a body shop, they quoted me 1200 dp to scrape and repaint the corner. couldn't find any cheaper places, so then decided to get a report at casa del conductor and told them someone hit me while i was parked and i didn't see it happen. took the report to dollar rental and they decided not to charge me anything.

last night here while removing money from the atm machine i forgot to remove my card from the machine. my mind was somewhere else, i really hate atm machines that keep your card untill the transaction is complete. called the 1800 number to block the card and had my second bank card ready just in case. always have a back-up plan.

went to the supermarket and bought a bottle of siglo de oro for 1700 dp. very good rum made by brugal, limited edition as they don't make them anymore. comes in a nice navy blue box with gold letters, highly recommended for those who enjoy their rum.

after the ride back to the airport, the taxi driver had the balls to ask me for 1500 dp. this was a different driver than the one i normally used. next time i will call apollo taxi service, recommended earlier by boricua online.

don't know when i will return, but i can't see myself running out of options in this country. i felt safer here than in colombia and brazil. driving here is much easier than i imagined, only santo domingo during rush hour (3pm to 9pm) should always be avoided. i found dominican women to be less jealous than colombian women and very easy to talk to. if i could have changed something, i would have made my first trip a bit shorter than 17 days. i think i will return for one or two more trips in the near future, as there are places i want to see that i could not.

you did the right thing when you had the accident, keep going and worry about it later. what was the charge for the police report? since you had full coverage all you needed was the police report and you pay nothing. if you have credit card cdw you can save some money by declining cdw and only take third party liability.

a trip of 17 days for your first visit is quite lenghty but you seemed to have traveled the island to cut down on the boredom.

when you stayed at discovery where did you park your rental?

I paid nothing to get the report, they only asked for driver's license and rental contract. At the end an officer stamped the paperwork and it was done. The whole process in Casa del Conductor will take about 1 hour.

I later found out my insurance only covered damage above 12000 DP. I was relieved nothing else had happened while I was there.

I gave the car back the same day I arrived in SD, thus I spent my last night riding taxis. However, when I was staying in the apartment hotel one block behind there on Calle Canela, I paid some bum to sleep next to my car overnight and nothing ever happened to the car while there.

driving is fairly easy in rep dom. santo domingo rush hour traffic is terrible, especially when you don't know all the roads.

playa rincon in samana, beautiful, practically deserted beach. there is a new highway to samana from santo domingo.

any hotel that rips off a fellow monger, i will boycott. boricua online's relative got ripped off in the hotel discovery, i'll never use that place. heard stories about cars getting broken into while parked in zona colonial, seems they like to steal the battery from the car.

san pedro de marcoris on saturday and sunday nights, the malecon has lots of people hanging out. lots of chicas. guavaberry song by juan luis guerra is about dancing and drinking guavaberry on the malecon in san pedro de marcoris. hotel marcorix (howard johnson hotel) on the malecon in san pedro de marcoris is really run down.

A little over a year ago I got sideswiped on the autopista coming from the airport. I went to the tiny police station on the autopista a few days later to get a police report. The report was type written on a very old manual typewritter. I know I paid too much but I think I gave the officer 300 pesos for the report as I did not want to have a problem with the rental company. The car had major damage and had to be towed back to the car rental. I presented the police report to the car rental company and paid nothing as I used the credit card CDW.

Quite awhile back I contacted MasterCard, not the issuing bank, and they emailed me a copy of the coverage they provide free of charge. I keep a copy with me when I travel and I also have the email saved in my document folder on my laptop.

Driving in the DR is not that bad but not the best. I try my best to avoid driving at night except in SD. The highways without street lamps are quite challenging at night. Santo Domingo rush hour traffic is terrible, terrible, terrible.

Now that is funny. I should have thought of that two years ago when I parked on the street overnight and woke up the next morning and all four hubcaps were missing.
