Yes there are buses that leave daily from the terminal
It takes about 8 hours and is an easy and safe trip.

Que Rico. My post was simply to inform. That is the reason for these boards to share information. That being the case I am going to CTG simply to have a good time... I am not afraid because I don't take unnecessary risks but I don't cloister myself in an American hotel either.
Please note the Government update is dated March 2010.... not 1990. It would be a huge disservice to our fellow mongors were not informed. If you had a bad meal would you write a review here to "warn" us that a restaurant was not good? How about a puta that gave you less than GFE? Again, everyone's experience will be different.

You don't know me. Why would you insinuate that I am inflating prices. I read these boards to understand how much the locals are asking and I stay within those limits. I am not a big fan of overpaying.

Or they're just to cheap.
The Bus Sucks and hey Why take the chance on some shit bus for 8 hours when you can fly in 1?
I'd personally much rather fly from BOG to MDE myself, for shorter trips it's a bit of a toss-up between plane and bus. The planes have a more limited schedule, and almost never leave on time.
I don't think there's very much danger on the buses, you have to be careful which company you choose though because some of them go along trolling for passangers every step of the way and even admit people to stand in the aisles which is horrible for everybody.
The only part of Colombia I'd really hesitate to travel by land for safety reasons would be the extreme south and east of the country, deep into the llanos or south of Cali.

Most Colombians don't travel by bus because they want to, but because they can't afford anything alse. "Flotas", as they are called, are synonymous of uncomfortable rides and lousy service. Accidents are also frequent.
An example: The bus from Bogota takes almost 12 hours to get to Cali, while the plane ride between both cities is half an hour long. While the roundtrip in Expreso Bolivariano, a well known company, costs 45K (internet ticket discount included), Avianca charges, in "Econo" class, also through the web, 120K (sometimes even less).
Sure, price increase is more than 200%. But aside from discomfort, which can't be objectively masured (at least for me, comfort is priceless), the sole time loss is way beyond 2000%! And you're only paying 40 bucks more for the 11. 5 hour difference!

Hey Cub, I understand your helpfullness I was a bit heated, just because the US Gov warns of that dosent mean there is a LIKELY chance it will happen. They are very very conservative with the warnings. The Colombian people I meet are tired of this, All the girls I know here in my state have never even seen coca and always people mention it when they say there Colombian, Never meet a farc rebel or even know anyone ever kidnapped, There is under 100 people being held in a country of 10's of millions ok thats a fact, why don't they say this stuff when people say there peruvian? They produce more coca then Colombia!
Its just a bad rap and saying that was the truth yes, I have read the warning I didn't know about the update I remember the last update. I would fly because I have the money I'm middle class so I can afford $99. Bottom line if your a newb with no spanish You may not hear or see something others would see so stay off the bus.

I am leaving Bog today and haven't anything new to report. Spent most of my time in the Sta. Fe and at a hotel I cannot recommend. I can recommend Sofia, one of the street girls across from the Piscina. Short, gigantic knockers, light skinned with a pretty face who gives excellent service for 30,000 including the room. Prices at the various doorways there range from 25, 000 to 30, 000 and there are some lookers.
My favorite clubs were La Troya and Paisas, Paisas has a knockout stripper but I never saw her on the floor.
I am posting from an adult internet near the SW corner of Cra 10 (Caracas) and Calle 19. It is called the BlueStar, there are signs. It is on the third floor, on the right as you head South on Caracas. Internet is 3, 000 the hour and 4, 000 the hour in a private cabina. It appears that service is offered in the cabina but it is early and only one girl now who does not appeal. Maybe it picks up in the afternoon. They also sell videos, so you might find the tape starring you (or me) filmed in the Sta. Fe.

I am pretty seasoned having mongered and traveled in many areas of Central America, Caribean, Asia and Europe. I like to know the hot spots to avoid so I know I won't have to worry. Vacation is all about relaxing.
You are absolutely right. The chances of anything happening are probably slim to none. Having a little knowledge reduces the chances even further. Some people are just plain stupid and will take risks even after multiple warnings. These are the same people that become statistics.
That being said; I would still rather fly. Why? Because I don't want to spend my entire trip on a bus, I can afford it (airfare is pretty reasonable when you consider the time/$$ ratio) and I still don't want to risk being kidnapped on a bus.
