For those of you thinking of driving through the mountain road short cut between Sosua and Santiago be carefull. Definitely not the road to take at night because of full of potholes. Daytime is ok if you are a good driver and know how to drive on bad roads. I have had plenty of experience.
You can take road via Puerto Plata which is better. Only problem is you need to overtake slow moving trucks sometimes in blind spots. I am good at white knuckle driving.
Roads on the north coast is much better and well maintained. So if you rent a car at POP airport and just stay on north coast you should be fine. You can go all the way to Haiti border. You can in to Haiti as well but they are notorious for stealing cars but if you have Haiti Chica as your friend it is fine.
I plan to buy this for a chica. Never did that before and did some reading. Looks like there are two kinds. The clip kind and the "weft" kind, which not sure how it is attached. Would like to know the preference and custom in the DR between those two and what are the best places quality / price wise, here in the States, to buy virgin human hair.

I did not like the crowd at Rick's either but the road leading up to it was very fun to drive fast with a stick shift Datsun. It takes some time because of customs delays but it is better and cheaper. My wife did it and she was very happy. Others that she bought in the Bronx were garbage.
