Let's see what it takes for me to get though my day and is it really miserable. Foot massage 200 THB, Thai Massage 200 THB, Oil Massage 300 THB. Those are the prices for one hour. Transportation: Baht Bus 10 THB; Bolt 100 - 200 THB; New Balance shoes 3500 THB for walking to my destination. For exercise everyday I walk along the beach (which by the way is 10 minute walk from where I lay my head on most nights). The place I lay my head each night costs me 1500 THB for electricity on average and 400 THB for water each month. One of my favorite meals (Farang Food) is 365 THB plus 35 THB tip.

On my initial visit I did not do that. Delta almost did not let me board my flight. It took moving up two levels of supervision and me signing a waver acknowledging that I may be denied entry and that all costs to return immediately would be borne by me. If I needed to do it again I certainly would have applied for the 90 Day Tourist Visa and avoided that hassle and uncertainty at the airport.

Pattaya has many positive things going for it as does BKK. I love Thai girls and the 24-hour access thing you mentioned in your 3rd sentence. I dig great Thai food, and I appreciate the relatively low violent crime stats. These 3 factors place Thailand at the top of my list of worldwide destinations that I am considering for permanent living if / when I decide to get out of the USA. In fact, no other place in the world even comes close, not even Brazil although I think (LOL), I prefer Brazilian girls over Thai girls.

But no place is perfect. The 2 things I dislike about Pat are its polluted beach (I am a tropical beach guy) and HIGH SEASON. I live in South Florida and I hate high season here.
