I wear them and never had any comments made. Maybe it is because I can speak the language and I am physically in shape. I always wear pants in the evening. During the day I am in shorts. I used to worry about that until one of my novias told me I should wear them because some of the young people are doing so there. Then again she liked my legs (LOL)
I have a near-native command of the language and there's nothing wrong with my physical shape, but my experience with shorts is quite different. One day, on my first visit to Cali, while staying at my novia’s house, she was going to accompany me to the dentist. I left the house before her to flag down a taxi. When she came out and saw I was dressed in shorts she told me she wouldn’t go with me if I was dressed in shorts. I have never seen any of my Colombian friends (from taxi drivers to lawyers) ever wear shorts outside their homes.
The Colombians may be poor. But their since of style is pretty darn good.
I fully agree with you.
Another novia once told me she felt offended as a lady because I had not taken the time to clean my shoes before picking her up for dinner.
So it must have been your novias leg fetish that made her ask you to wear shorts.
I see people of all ages wearing them. Not everyone, maybe 1 in 20 with sandals and definately not with any sense of style, just comfort. I do not see any shorts and sandals with black knee high socks as is the style in Florida. A dead gringo give away, one mans opinion. I don't wear them, just as a matter of the number of clothes that I carry on extended trips. Cowboy boots, nope haven't seen any here in the city of Cali.
Having fun in the sun.
Wear jeans. Shorts are a dead give away as a gringo. I never see younger people wearing them in the streets. No cowboy boots or fake Rolexs either.
World travel 69, some new places in Cali.
La 33
This is a four bar club/bar area with names like Club Social la 15, Club Bar 33, El Son de Las Munecas, and Vanidades Lindas Chicas. If you need to give an address to a taxi driver use Cr 15 No. 33F-17. You can also take a bus from any where on Cr 15, Just ask the driver if he is going "toda la quince, hasta cll 33. " The clubs open at 6 pm until 1 pm, club bar la 33 is open on Sundays and Holidays, I would imagine the others are also open. There is a local short time hotel on the same block.
Beers run from 3 cop to 4. 50 cop, liquor available.
Chicas; There were 10 chicas in one bar and 4 or 5 in the others. I went at 630 pm and stayed a couple hours. The girls told me it gets full later in the night. There was security in all the bars, but the only black security guard from Munecas came up to me while I was drinking a beer and as he bent over me trying to intimidate me asked/suggested that I should buy him a beer. I started laughing and told him I would buy him one immediately after he bought me one. He eventually left. I did not buy him a beer.
Prices for the chicas ranged from 30 cop to 50 cop for a short time, some asked an extra 10 for the room, others told me it was included. Everything was available subject to negotiation. Girls ranged from 2's to 7's, fat slim, 19ish to 30ish. I would imagine these places hop later in the night as the locals get blasted and watch the girls. I prefer to open these type places rather than close them. Taxis and buses available right out front as Cr 15 is a major street. Strip tease/dancing may or may not happen depending on the girls and the management.
Having fun in the sun

@Blacknight

Sorry guys, shorts are not that common in Colombia and are seen as suitable only at the coastline and in areas with subtropic climate. In the interior it can happen to you that they don't let you in restaurants, bars, etc. Seen that personally in Bucaramanga, where they request trousers from their guests. In colder areas, such as Bogota, obviously you won't find these advice.
Don't dump your girl, Colombians put more attention to dress well. It is a good sign from her!
I'm just saying, my girl lives in Cali. And I wear shorts there always in the daytime. It's just hot. Going to see the family for dinner or out for the evening I wear pants. But every other time. If it is too hot for me to be comfortable in pants. I wear shorts. It's too far to travel not to be comfortable. I'm not colombian and it's obvious any way. Hahaha
Located just off of ave sexta, good food, fair prices. When you need something besides comida tipica!
New management, ie, new biz cards, 4 girls working when I went, prices vary from 25 cop through 60 cop.
Ave 7 Norte, #17 AN-51, 1/2 a dozen pretty 19 tweens for 45 for 30 min and 65 for the hour. Great way to spend an afternoon, just off of ave sexta and open mid afternoon, 2-3 pm. Some pretty girls with good attitudes. Nice clean rooms in a safe neighborhood.
Have fun
I really enjoyed Cali alot more than BOG. Warmer weather and much friendlier people and much more approachable non-pro chicas. Having met more than a few in BOG, I knew that Calenas were beautiful, but I was just floored by the extreme beauty and bodies of the average Calena just walking down the street. I did alot more partying and cultural intermingling than hobbying, but I was very happy with the limited play that I did engage in. I worked on learning how to salsa estillo Colombiano, because the Puerto Rican style I know is worthless in Cali. I even liked the Blanco del Valle Aguardiente better than the aguardiente in BOG. I also noticed fewer shading characters and potential ladrones hanging around than in BOG. I admit I stayed in a more limited area in Cali than BOG, but I personally felt safer in Cali. Obviously, Cali is still a very dangerous city and everyone should tengan cuidado. I just got back to the states and I'll follow up with a full report.
BTW. Thanks for the advice on shorts. Virtually, no one, not even children wear them in Cali. My brother and one of my best friends did our first day in Cali and they never did again.
Where did you stay in BOG, I've been there 3 times, I stayed to the northwest of downtown(SR85) & west of downtown another (small hotel), I'd say that those areas in BOG are no more dangerous than big cities in the US.

Unfortunately, La Piscina, El Castillo and many of the value casas are in these areas.
Seems this thievery thing among SWs and TVs is far more dangerous than we've been thinking. A guy (32 y.o.) was actually killed in the Granada area.
http://www.eltiempo.com/colombia/occidente/murio-empresario-en-cali-atacado-al-parecer-por-un-grupo-de-travestis_5263567-1
According to news reports, the guy stopped to a red light, and a bunch of bystanding TVs threw a rock to his windshield. When he got off the car to see what had happened, a group of them attacked, beating and stabbing him to death.
What I can't understand is why the guy didn't just drive off instead of getting out of the car. I was walking down the street in downtown Bogota a few hours ago not knowing if I have just been lucky all of these years to not have encountered any problems anywhere. I am usually walking alone in spots so shady that even locals don't like to hang out there. But if I ever had any problems then the first thing I would Do is run. I wouldn't be confrontational.
