Camaro's observations of Sosua May 2015
Camaro's observations of Sosua May 2015.
Although I live in Puerto Plata now I am still addicted to Sosua, I have found that old habits die hard but I am weaning myself off my addiction one day at a time. At least trying anyway. I have complied my recent observations of Sosua's PFP scene for your review.
Weather.
I was in Sosua December & February which encompassed the winter / rainy season but in May it got dry and hot with high temperatures around 90 degrees and the evening it got cool with a breeze temperatures between 70-75 degrees.
CESTUR & Policia Nacional.
Law enforcement in Sosua is very arbitrary from the PN towing some vehicles and leaving others to the CESTUR (tourist police) snatching some girls and leaving others un-molested. There is no rhyme or reason to their law enforcement tactics. I find the police to be generally friendly and I have not had any problems however that does not mean that there are not problems to be had.
Keep a low profile and you should have no problems.
Pedro Clisante update May, 2015.
There have been a few changes on Pedro Clisante since my last trip, below I have listed my observations:
City Lights.
City Lights is generally dead however there are occasions when you will find a dozen or so people inside. It is a decent diversion which has the potential to bring a little something different to the other end of Pedro Clisante.
Bermuda Bar.
Bermuda Bar no longer has their window openings blocked just like Bar Central but seems to keep a small crowd despite being such a small venue.
Rumbas.
Rumbas is still the late afternoon early late evening gathering spot. It has become ground central for Sosua. The talent level depends on the day of the week, for example on Mondays it sucks but on Fridays it rocks.
The Winners Circle.
I saw a little crowd there each time I walked by but mostly people standing out front.
Bar Central.
Bar Central considered to be the Hatian Embassy because there are so many Hatians. Bar Central has taken a turn for the better as I witnesses much more traffic as well as the closed windows are now open giving the establishment an open air feel. It is interesting to see how Dominicans and Haitians can mix in a quasi-harmony.
Merengue.
Merengue is one of my favorite spots in the late evening because of the friendly staff and light snack they serve wings sandwiches etc. The kitchen is closed on Mondays. I also like being able to watch the chica parade up to Classicos through the glass partitions. I enjoy the staff as they always treat me like family.
Classicos.
Classicos remains the crown of Sosua monger night life. I used to enjoy the night club atmosphere and air-conditioning. Recently I have distanced myself because most of the talent thinks they are worth more than 3000 pesos which unfortunately nothing can be further from the truth. Sosua's best comes out but just like Rumbas the talent level varies based on the day of the week. They open at 11 pm and it is on and poppin by 1 am.
Rumba's Pacqueio / Mayweather fight.
On Saturday, May 2, 2015 I watched the Pacueio / Mayweather fight at Rumbas. Tables were going from 1000 -1500 pesos plus there was a 200 pesos cover charge. The fight was displayed on all screens. The joint was stacked with men and women. I was impressed at the Rumbas chicas that paid the 200 pesos cover charge which some were unable to recoup.
The fight was nothing to brag about as far a dynamic boxing matches go. Mayweather won by decision after which Rumba was Rumba.
The Premium Sports Bar (El Flow).
There is good news for some of you old timers who like the true Dominican flavor in Sosua; the Premium Sports Bar was has reopened however there was a very light crowd inside. Monday night is karaoke night if you want to listen to amateur singing.
Club X & After One.
Club X across the street from Classicos for a short time had replaced After One as the "go to spot" after Classicos lets out. They stayed open until about 4 am and people would cross the street and go to the club when Classicos closed around 3 am.
Now Club X closes about the same time as Classicos and people hang out in front of both clubs for about an hour after closing then those who are not done for the night go to After One.
After One used to charge a cover but on the 2 occasions I have been there was no cover charge. The chica selection was no Classicos or Rumbas but there was a sufficient selection depending on the day of the week.
After One remains a viable option for those who like late night hunting.
Helados Bon.
Bon Ice Cream shop at the end of Dr, Rosen headed toward Casa Cayana can be a hot spot to people watch or sometimes to meet chicas. Depending on the day and time you can see a half dozen chicas eating ice cream in front of the shop.
The shop has outdoor seating and WIFI and can also be used a meeting place since it is centrally located and most people know where it is.
The Sosua Gauntlet.
Earlier Sosua was known for having a gauntlet of putas. From Classicos to Dr. Rosen on both sides of Pedro Clisante there was a wall of chicas especially on the weekends. It was difficult to walk that stretch without being molested both verbally and physically.
Now there is only a very minor gauntlet from Bar Central to Classicos may be less than 25 yards. The most the chicas will do is try to get your attention through eye contact, conversation and sometimes they will reach out and touch but the season of the gauntlet of old has passed.
Chica Pricing.
The standard old prices can still be had depending on the chica time of day and day of the week, 1000-2000ST 2000-3000 TLN. I have discovered more chicas have higher expectations some desire 3000ST and some want 4-5000 for TLN.
I find the increase in pricing problematic because it reflects an overall arrogance on the part of many of the chicas; the bigger problem I have is that many TLN chicas will have a headache in the morning or some other excuse for why they cannot give you your second leche in the morning. If you only get 1 leche and you have paid 4000 pesos you have in essence paid a chica to sleep which I think is absolutely ridiculous. My advice would be to avoid TLN with chicas you have no history with and be clear on your expectations.
Of course as in all things how a chica responds to you depends on a myriad of factors and YMMV.
Sosua short time hotels.
Dulce Secreto.
Dulce Secreto has less than 10 rooms ranging from 600 pesos basic to 800 pesos jacuzi room. Dulce Secreto is the best option in Sosua but the problem is on the weekends it is almost always booked.
City Lights.
City Lights club has short time rooms right next to the club. I did not inspect the rooms after security told me he wanted 700 pesos for 1 hour, I just turned around and walked away from him without saying anything.
Bar Central.
Bar Central has about 10 rooms upstairs in back of the bar. The rooms are 400 pesos and very basic. Some rooms have air-conditioners and others do not. They give you 2 towels and 2 condoms just like Dulce Secreto.
Conclusion.
Sosua continues to be alive and well although many of the chicas can be quite business like it takes some effort to break the barrier of puta client relationship. Sometimes you need 2 or 3 sessions to break the ice for those who have the time to make the connection. I found some quite enjoyable to talk to.
Sosua is a better location for tourist than ex-pats primarily because of the opportunistic mentality of the chicas and the prices they want to charge. It is difficult to convince a chica who can get 4000 pesos for TLN to take half that because you are an ex-pat when she knows when the weekend rolls around she can get her price point. Some are reasonable with their pricing based on your relationship with them but many have simply been spoiled by the tourist dollar.
Going forward I can see spending less time on Pedro Clisante but for now it still holds some fascination for me. Although I am developing contacts throughout the country I will continue to visit Sosua when I am bored and when friends come in town. I will keep you updated on and changes on the ground.
I was there for the fight
I am so sorry we did not meet. I was in Rumbas for the fight. I paid 500 pesos for my table. I think it was best table in the house. The fight was not great but the feeling in Rumbas was electric. I was my last night and I had 3 or 4 girls. Your observations are spot on. The place is a monger wonderland. I had several girls who wanted to wife up but I could not pull the trigger because was a tad out of control.
