I was in Tijuana from Sept 14 to 17. There's a 100 foot stretch of street in front of HK undergoing construction.
This impedes crosses with HK girls to hotel rizo (or vice versa). It also blocks the view from the rizo balcony.
Not to mention the noise almost all day & night.
It seemed to hurt the mood in the zona quite a bit.

They had a better article in Saturdays news that was more informative.
Supposedly they had set up five booths to pay the fees. From what I read it's seems like what they are trying to get when asking for an ID not just a passport is those that have Mexican family but are American citizens. So they want to verify that the Mexicans that are going to Mexico are actual citizens and not US citizens with Mexican family. It's still confusing and many questions on how long this will continue. The news said that this was started because a new person has taken over and he's just enforcing the law. So if people complain I don't imagine it lasting. I was hoping just to hear more from those that actually cross over this weekend to see if they were charged or not.

Yesterday at midnight an excavator and a team of people were working. I don't know what they're digging (maybe a tunnel to the US? Hehehe).

I showed the Mexican officer my 180 day Mexican visa and he said ok you can go. But I noticed maybe 10 people were in the line for foreigners and they were filling out some papers at the kiosks. Mexicans cross the border without a problem.

Crossed today this weekend. The Mexican immigration officials were not charging a entry fee. Some said people complained to the governor and he stopped it. A Mexican immigration told me that they nol longer a receipt of passport application to cross the border.

Got to town late, and found a deal for a good hotel in SD on points, so decided I'd just stay there and not proceed to the border right then. The trolley wasn't running any longer and I had a rental car to drop off too. So after waking the next day, I packed a travel bag and dropped the rest of my luggage in the hotel, and got the trolley half a block away. Passport got scanned and they filled me out an entry form, no attempt to charge me for anything. Zona shuttle dropped me off outside Tropical, but I felt like staying at the nice and peaceful Velario, which is about the best non-chica hotel in the Zona. Also has parking if you had a vehicle. Can be had online for $66. I messaged a few reliable prospects from past trips, but got nothing back. Couldn't find much I liked the look of out, didn't want to spend time in the clubs either. So ate and went and had a beer at Mamut, then got back to looking. Eventually found a white girl stumbling past the hotel and she seemed my type, plus it's nice to be able to communicate fully.
