From what I remember there is only one Sheraton in Rio, and it's in Leblon. I stayed there during the World Cup, and loved the views and the grounds, but it wasn't guest-friendly or reasonably-priced.

Logistically isn't the Sheraton located on Praia do Vidigal? I understand that from the Sheraton you cannot walk the beach to get to Praia do Leblon. I also heard Praia do Vidigal is a littered and dirty beach, so I crossed the Sheraton off my list of possible hotels a long time ago. Add to that huge negative, your experience that the hotel is not girly friendly, and all I can say is fuhgeddaboudit the Sheraton. I would much rather stay at some hotel on Praia do Leblon proper, on Ipanema or on Barra even though Barra is a good 20 to 30 minutes ride to most of the fun Termas.

I stayed there in 2014 and liked the small beach (it's a protected beach, and it was clean and uncrowded at least back then). The views of the ocean and the favela were breathtaking especially from the lounge, that's what I liked the most. But I agree that location-wise it's not convenient.

First of all I like to thank everyone who share information and opinions on this forum. It really is very useful for a first time visitor, even when there are conflicting views on a subject.

I am now preparing by downloading Rio maps to my phone and trying to learn at least some Portuguese phrases and numbers of course. Also setting up Uber and Whatsapp accounts.
