I remember seeing a few posts about this topic longtime ago, but now I am not able to find the post. Hence, I am posting the question again. I know its slightly off topic.

I want a good hotel which are couple friendly for staying (short duration) in Chennai to take my GF. Cost will not be an issue. Request members to suggest good hotels which are couple friendly and safe. I had searched for few hotels in makemytrip & others, but I saw some of them highlighting that they will not accept local ID. Is it true? There are a lot of question like should I go for 5 Star Hotel or even 3 or 4 Star will work?

Secondly, I also wanted to know if I need to take my GF alongwith me during check-in or can I take her to the room after I check in? Which would ideal?

Any decent hotel will allow couples. Spend anything above 1.5 K & it shud be good. Avoid low ring Oyos which charges less than 999/- & also look for specific instruction on local ID / couples allowed.

Lemon tree hotels even have day package for much lower prices. You can check in together.

There are individual villas in ECR for rent as well so you can feel safe as it looks like home only. Oyo is safe as well but you need to pick the right ones. Showing ID card for above 18 s fine. You can check-in either together or you can check-in first and your GF can check-in later too, just they will ask for her name and note down. Since cost is not an issue I would suggest you to go with 3/4/5 star hotels as they will be maintaining and sanitizing properly in these covid times.
