Exact thing happened in Brazil. When the exchange rate was almost 4 to 1, 300 reais for $77 many guys did not mind paying. But when that shit fell to 1.52, all of a sudden that same 300 reais turned to $197.

There was no way I was going to Fase 2 when it was 1600 pesos to the USD, but when that shit went to 3000 pesos to the USD I went to check it out. If it falls back to 1600, then this cheap fuck will never see those portals again.

P.S. It is only costing you less under the assumption that the punter is arriving with USD or a currency that has gained over the CO Peso.

They have fixed costs for delivering their product: lodging, air fare, meals, child care, visas / passports, implants, etc. It is an apples / oranges comparison, like comparing your next door neighbor who is a weekend warrior in the National Guard, and a full time Navy SEAL.

Now, let's look at what the local provider is going to do with your C150? Is she changing it into dollars? I think not. Did her cabfare get more expensive? Nope.

The dollar is stronger in Colombia, because US currency should really be called "OPEC exchange coupons" or "petrodollars. " It is the world reserve currency because OPEC sells its oil for US dollars. You want to buy OPEC oil, you got to change your Euros, Sheckels, Yen, Renmenbi, etc. Into dollars first. (And THAT is why the US arms and defends Saudi Arabia, the Gulf States and even the Syrians helped the US liberate Kuwait, and why the USA Reserve Bank can print up dollars like your local pizza shack prints up coupons.) Dollars are scarce in Colombia, because the USA Is buying less Colombian oil, so they are more valuable. But none of this really impacts chicas, because most of what they buy is made locally and not imported using USA Dollars.

Now, let us factor in the monger's fixed costs. When the exchange rate changed, did the monger's air fare become cheaper? No, the price of jet fuel went down, but air fares did not, since airlines contract their fuel purchases months/years ahead of time, and they are taking the opportunity to cover losses from the recession. Did lodging become cheaper at the mansion? Nope.

Someone mentioned inflation. There IS inflation at work behind the C150 to C200 creep, but is not that the cost of living in Colombia has gone drastically up. If anything, it has gone down, as the diversion of national resources to security have been reduced, thanks to the insurgency winding down. Goods and services can be transported around the country without risk of guerrilla ambushes on the highways, etc.

What has inflated is the number of gringos coming down there. As the country is perceived as more "safe", the more timid monger will come down. As the dollar gets stronger, the more cost conscious monger will come down. As more mongers come down, word-of-mouth advertising kicks in. More newbies, especially newbies with little mongering experience and who were easily impressed, meant more guys amenable to the C150 and the upsell to cab fare. They had no idea about the metro, or that the cab ride back to Bello did not cost C50, so the slide to C200 is a recent development.

I am not opposed to rewarding a provider for a memorable experience. I have been very generous to chicas when it has been warranted. However, I don't want to pay C200 for an experience I can have elsewhere for C75-100, and doing so will make the mansion chica consortium as unresponsive and complacent as the Detroit Department of Motor Vehicles Employees Union.

A few years ago, the mansion did not control the supply of providers. They came when they wanted to come. This led to an uneven mix of chicas / providers. Some nights, not enough chicas, while other nights, too many chicas, and they weren't even earning their cabfare. The management went to an invitation-only system where the providers needed either an invitation from management or the guests to get entry. Some chicas used to come to the mansion several times a week under the old system. Now, some wait weeks for a call from management or regulars.

I strongly agree with Mr.Enternational. When the exchange rate goes back to favoring the COP, we will be stuck with a new price point. Fewer mongers, especially the easily impressed, free spending newbie, will stop coming, we will be stuck with a new price point, and in the end, the chicas will suffer.

When the dollar bought more pesos, I didn't change my spending habits. I just came down to Colombia three, sometimes four, times a year instead of two times a year, or one time a year if went to San Jose. I didn't give my favorites more each time, but I did give them more opportunities to earn, and more opportunities for me to bring them a gift.

The last two posts are spot on. The USD / Peso exchange rate is irrelevant. If a chica were to even bring it up, I'd put her on ignore.

As Mr E alluded, guests at the Mansion (and mongers in general in MDE) are not solely from the US. I've met many Canadians and a few Europeans and Mexicans among my fellow guests. Do they get a discount since their currency has weakened against the Peso?

USD / COP 3000 and prices are the same.

Atoher way around, COP rises, there are no discount for us we mongers.

Princes stay in COP + inflation.

Being nice with high 18-25 prepagos, only leads to $$$ losses and quarrels and even maybe violence.

MDE Mongers MUST set a MAX price for services, and at which places.

I left a note to a hot MILF 2 years ago, and she did everything. Prices where like 50-100 COP, she was selling candy on Avenida 65. Time was never an issue, since she was tired in her legs, at my place she got a break for 2-3 hours.

The Hotel M girls aren't "raising prices" because they have been scouring the pages of the Wall Street Journal and the Economist and have surmised that the core inflation in US Dollar assets would indicate that cost of services should increase as well so that they may generate a reasonable level of net income compared with prior years in business.

I called both these hotels for what its worth. Trying to figure out where to stay in Poblado area.

Porton. When asked what was the hotel's policy on bringing in guests, the person on the phone immediately understood what I was asking for. He put me on hold for a minute and then came back. Suggesting that if it were "women" friends that I wanted to bring in who would stay only for a limited time period. They will charge $30. When I asked if it was $30/ per person or $30/ day. Interestingly he started to waiver. It was as if he was trying to create a policy on the fly. In other words. He was trying to say. We will allow it as long as we get something out of it.

Hampton. Talked to a woman on the phone and she understood my question right away as well. Her answer was actually very straight forward. They did not have an issue getting a short term friend, as long as I have requested their "permission", that is, notify them in advance who I am expecting and that they want the person to register at the desk.

Looks like I will be sticking to Hampton then. Will let you know my experience.

There is a much bigger picture as most have suggested. A 30% plus increase is crazy. The ones who will suffer the most are the girls at least until a new customer base is established.

Someone pointed out Brazil as an example and this is exactly what will happen in Medellin & the Mansion. It sure did in Brazil which is why I am searching new territory. The exchange will indeed clock back the other direction at some point.

Being new to Colombia I am learning the ropes but the significant price increase requested is a big red flag. Since I just discovered this place and would like to see it remain a similar environment that I read about I have a suggestion. The Mansion folks could set a limit especially since as I now understand an invite only.

Not all gringos are suckers or we would not be having this conversation.

I think the girls and the business owners figured out the sucker angle several years ago.

The USD has been down to 1600-1700, for just then very very fast move up to over 3000!

Maybe also Peru and Mexico. Argentina etc. Since the REAL came 1994 the sexindustry in Brazil towards tourists has fallen dramattically, Help closed 10 years ago for an example. Colombia started low even good looking and exotic girls 2002, but prices must be held back. Whereelse should we go? If for nothing else to limit their liability if and when you get robbed, stabbed or drugged in your hotel room.

If after you have been robbed, bleed out or die from an overdose, there is a question as to how the woman gained access to your room and who she is then the hotel could be found liable.

Come on. Now, let's be fair. No one suggested all gringos are suckers. I think the point was made about a certain group who pay well above market rates for accommodations that are well below market standards for access to a small group of women who are asking for 50% to 150% more than comparable providers are getting.

Ask the management to impose a price freeze that would cut into their kickbacks and other profits? I guess it doesn't cost anything to try. Good luck with that.
