This is where you yankee gringos always fukk things up, you always think in greenbacks instead of thinking in the currency of the country and average wage you are visiting. Chicas working in a store or panaderia make 30 k for a 12 hour day, 5 days brings them 150 k, so 150 k for a 1 hour pop verses 60 hours on the go-go in a panaderia, but then they might find a stupid dumb gringo with more money than brains that will pay 300 k, wow won the lottery.
As of Jan 1 the Colombian minimum monthly income is 869,463 cop. This includes minimum wage of 781,242 and transportation subsidy of 88,211. That breaks down to daily pay of just over 40 k, assuming a 5 day work week, except many work 6 days, at about 33 k daily.
Which has very little to do with the price of pussy. The girl working in Exito has a pension plan and very cheap health insurance. She's also probably making a little more than the minimum. Getting pregnant, or catching a venereal disease isn't a risk at her job, neither is getting beat up, raped or robbed. She also has an opportunity, however slim to move up the ladder and increase her income. Her experience gained can help her move up and provides some job security and marketability.
That girl who wants 150 - 200 k can't add "fucked fat, old gringo who doesn't know how to bathe" to her resume. There's no pension, no health care. There's no guarantee she'll work tomorrow or next week. Long before she's eligible for any retirement, she'll be forced to find another way to earn.
This is where tourists, regardless of nationality, always fuck things up. You think that there's no difference between a girl in a bakery and a prepago. Go to your local grocery. In the US that cashier is making about $60/ day, maybe $80. Now find a local prepago that compares to a 150-200 k girl in Medellin. She's charging $200/ hour minimum, while the Colombiana is not watching the clock. That $200 gets you service which rarely compares to the $50 - $67 service here.
If $50-$67 is too much for a clean, sweet, affectionate, 1.5 - 4 hour session with a girl who is likely one of the hottest you've ever been with, stick with the 30 k streetwalkers or the 50 k casas. Quit crying because you think you deserve filet mignon at a McDonald's price.
Ohh, OK, and no non-yankee gringo has ever overpaid! Overpaying does not have borders pal!!
El Mechanico.
I agree but in Colombia and most South America it s definitely Yankees who fuck everything up. Another example is Cuba. And so on.

I've seen many nationalities overpay.

My friend invited a chica over. The first visit went well. The second visit, when she realized he was alone in his 2 bedroom apartment because his roommate was out of town, she drugged his drink. When he regained consciousness, he was being slapped around by two of the chicas confederates. When he pretended to be too confused to remember the combination to his safe, they injected him with something. They got his phone, passport, cash, and other valuables and were putting them in bedsheets to carry downstairs to their car. But first, they were going to put him in the car. They tied him up, put a sheet over his head, and took him downstairs. He had been acting as if he was completely out of it, until he got to street level, then ran. At first, with the sheet over his head, he bumped off a light post, but since he was just a block away from the police substation at Parque Poblado, the thieves panicked and ran off before they got his valuables to the car. Did they intend to "express kidnap" him and let him go after they took him from ATM to ATM to empty out his credit and bank cards, and THEN let him go? Or did they intend to do something more sinister?
It has been said that of 5 mongers robbed, only 1 reports it on these kinds of boards.
The Hotel M girls aren't "raising prices" because they have been scouring the pages of the Wall Street Journal and the Economist and have surmised that the core inflation in US Dollar assets would indicate that cost of services should increase as well so that they may generate a reasonable level of net income compared with prior years in business.
No, the prices are higher because they have finally caught on to the fact that the gringos are suckers.
Some gringos are suckers, plus the fact that there are a lot more of them.
Also, when you consider that the Mansion is a sort of "petting zoo" for newbie, or at least "new to Colombia" monger demographic, they are less aware, and less picky about price point.
But less remember this when the dollar falls to 1700 COP, and the newbie mongers discover the latest new foreign playground. The Mansion will still be full, but it will be populated by guests who are more jaded, less thirsty, and more aware of alternative options. This will not be a happy time for the English students, some of whom will stick to their 200 COP line, but be disappointed when they don't get pulled and they have to pay for their cab home.

If Medellin happened to be more expensive than back home, would you go there with the attitude that things didn't cost this much and are higher quality back home, so Medellin is a ripoff? No. Because back home has shit to do with Medellin.

I've been to a lot of countries in Asia, and I must say, his words are not without merit. Big boobs and ass are much rarer there. There are also a lot less obese women in Asia. So take the good with the bad, I suppose.

That is quite a story. I have a lot of sympathy for the victim and I know it's not a completely isolated case. I try not to display valuables around people I don't know well. I don't know that it was a factor in the situation you cited but I have to wonder why anyone would go through that kind of trouble unless they knew there was worthwhile stuff to get. It's scary that the two thugs got into the apartment. I assume it wasn't difficult when the target was unconscious but it makes me wonder if there was any security in the building. It's just this kind of thing that makes me veer toward hotels. The hotel management has incentive to prevent problems.
Going off topic a bit, I like the idea of using a safes as decoys by placing a small amount of valuables in them and hiding the real stash of valuables somewhere else. Home invaders will generally scoop the contents of the safe and whatever else they can find and then make their escape. Be safe everyone.

This is why I stay at hotels that check cedulas and keeps an eye out on who goes in.
Your math, and logic is good. The only question I have is if the exchange rate drops back to 1900 will the girls lower their rates?
To me when I'm in country I focus on the currency of that country. If I was happy with USA prices than I would stay home.
Exchange rate doesn't factor into it since they quote in pesos. They don't care what the exchange rate since the price of bread and milk doesn't fluctuate with the exchange rate. Discussion of exchange rates in relation to this is irrelevant.
My first trip about 8 years ago, they charged was 150 k at the Mansion. I can't believe that guys still expect to pay 150 k when the cost of living probably rose by 50%, if not more, since then. It's like us working for a European company in the US that pays us in USD. No matter what happens to the Euro-USD exchange rate, the cost of food in the US is higher in 2018 than it was in 2010, so I need to be paid more.
-
Seems like some of you believe that the chicas are trying to raise their rate from 150 k to 200 k because they figured out that the exchange rate is up. Like I said in a previous post, they couldn't care any less about exchange rates since they have no effect on what they pay for food, clothing, makeup, cell phones, etc. The cost of living increases gradually annually, prices on most items go up every year. The generally accepted rate has been at 150 k for a long time. Now, they are consciously trying to raise it to 200 k. I applaud them, it's about time. Maybe if they had raised it 10 k every couple of years since 2008, instead of 50 k in one shot, guys wouldn't be complaining (as much). Well, there are always guys complaining, because they think we should pay the chicas what a minimum wage worker makes per hour. I hear guys all the time saying how spoiled these chicas are, they charge for 1 hour what a regular worker makes in a week. Not a good comparison since one involves having to suck fat, bald, gringo dick and one does not.
And to the person that stated that cost of living has gone down, you are wrong. Inflation has averaged about 3-4% per year for the last 15 years or so, it was double digits pre-2000.
