I will post this in a few threads as not quite where to post this – apologies if you read it more than once

A quick note to say Nikki (Miss N) from the UAE threads is now in the Philippines and is looking for some fun guys.

agreed. he was guilty of gross stupidity and conduct unbecoming, which may, and probably will get him court martialed, but should not get him thrown in jail on trumped up charges.

just as an aside, two swiss guys in cebu were thrown in jail recently for allegedly operating a cybersex site!

smith's case was obviously political, that's why it has been blown out of proportion. people like legarda are still using it to try and trumpet their own petty agenda, even though the case has been dismissed. once the media and special interest groups get hold of cases like these there are not many ways out. their next move will be to use the very dismissal to attack the visiting forces agreement itself.

I am currently using vonage and skype that cost me around $0.18 (landline) and $0.23 (cell phones) per minutes. Is there any cheaper way to call from USA to Philippines (manila, AC, cebu, etc.), especially the mobile numbers?

I saw couple of web sites (fastphonecard.com, etc.) selling calling cards (2 NAYPINOY, etc.) claiming $0.06/min. Anyone has any experience and/or recommendations for a good/cheap VoIP, calling card, pin-less calling, etc. from USA to Philippines especially the mobile numbers?

Of course it was political, but then everything here is political, with someone trying to take advantage of any given situation for his or her own advantage. The attack on the VFA has been going on for months, but I think it's mainly empty rhetoric, and all that the Smith dismissal has done is to increase the volume and frequency of the rhetoric.

Re Calling services, pennytalk and the others that advertise less than 18Cents seem to all have hidden fees, connection charges etc. IMHO it is because the PHILIPPINE carriers charge outrageous fees due to no competition. For example. Skype to Thailand or China or US or most anywhere else is 5 Cents or so, 25% of charge to PI.

some time ago i had a lot of discussion on this board over this fact. my opinion is and always has been that this entire incident was blown out of proportion by those "special interest" groups who are anti us and anti us military, chief among them is gabriella, ny city based who don't have a very kind opinion of mongering in general and mongering by us soldiers in foreign countries in particular.

It was Friday or Saturday when the decision was reversed. I was in downtown Manila all weekend and Nobody and I really mean NOBODY (sorry Jackson, capitalized for emphasis as I have no idea of how to write in itallics), on the street has any knowledge about this case whatsoever. Seems to be very newsworthy for purposes of those who might have an agenda, but if you interviewed 1,000 people in the square block I was in, 50% would not know what one was talking about. Many wouldn't care. Others would be bribed for opinions which leaves that small segment with an agenda as the squeaky wheel.

Not sure what your point is, but almost everyone in the Philippines knows about this case.

How many people "on the street" did you interview that weekend?
