True, the case was all over the newspapers and all over the TV, which means that those who read the papers and/or watch TV could not have helped but know about it. However, there's probably an enormous percentage of the population that doesn't read newspapers and doesn't have TVs, so it's not beyond the realm of possibility at all that large swatches of the population know little or nothing about the case.

Good point GE. Nevertheless, this case generated a huge amount of gossip and small talk far beyond the media reporting.
Not sure what your point is, but almost everyone in the Philippines knows about this case.
How many people "on the street" did you interview that weekend?
X
I think you are correct X. Just because they were not talking about it to you, doesn't mean that they don't know about it.
Every night I would guess millions watch ABS/CBN TV Patrol!
I was told that the protesters in Manila are paid employees. Always on call to protest when needed.
I am currently using vonage and skype that cost me around $0.18 (landline) and $0.23 (cell phones) per minutes. Is there any cheaper way to call from USA to Philippines (manila, AC, cebu, etc.), especially the mobile numbers?
I saw couple of web sites (fastphonecard.com, etc.) selling calling cards (2 NAYPINOY, etc.) claiming $0.06/min. Anyone has any experience and/or recommendations for a good/cheap VoIP, calling card, pin-less calling, etc. from USA to Philippines especially the mobile numbers?
I've tried several different calling cards that advertise low rates. Every one of them was a rip off. There is a lot of fine print with these things. After I would dial the number (whether it was the PI or Cambodia or Thailand from the US) and before it would connect the call it would always tell me I had a LOT less minutes than I should have had. For example, I remember buying 60 minutes worth of phone time on one of these cards. So I dial the number and it tells me I have 37 minutes of call time. WTF? Then, after a ten minute call I would call the next day and it would say I have 11 minutes of calling time. All the cards were pretty much like that.
So, I just use Skype. I also use another service out of the UK called Callserve. You can Google them. Their rates are lower than Skype but the quality varies. You can also text message using Skype but they can not text you back.
agreed. he was guilty of gross stupidity and conduct unbecoming, which may, and probably will get him court martialed, but should not get him thrown in jail on trumped up charges.
just as an aside, two swiss guys in cebu were thrown in jail recently for allegedly operating a cybersex site!
the justice system (or the lack thereof) is incredible! murderers, [CodeWord127], thieves, are either never caught or bribe their way out of trouble, and few are ever prosecuted, and yet guys who commit minor offenses and who present no danger to the society at large are treated like serial killers. ge
they don't want foreigners exploiting the women. thats the bottom line. i can understand it somewhat. if they didn't. there would be thousands of foreigners setting up shop and turning the entire country into a tourist sex stop.
no country wants the same reputation as thailand especially a traditional catholic country.
Of course it was political, but then everything here is political, with someone trying to take advantage of any given situation for his or her own advantage. The attack on the VFA has been going on for months, but I think it's mainly empty rhetoric, and all that the Smith dismissal has done is to increase the volume and frequency of the rhetoric.
GE
The tv patrol is only 12 hrs behind over in the states. The bamboo hot line has a long reach!
The relatives can tune in 2 times every day and see whats up, and at the moment they have a comment call home.
She got a deal of a lifetime, free visa and go stateside. Best part is when she gets there she will have culture shock big time. She will find out quick about what 1 peso will buy there.
This was a put up deal from day one.
No country wants the same reputation as Thailand especially a traditional Catholic country.
Yeah, instead it has the reputation of being the most hypocritical & corrupt in Asia.

AV
isn't it funny that its the foreigners who always corrupt these young lasses.
Take the report recently about a sex den being uncovered, run and owned by two Swedish guys in CDO, who forced the girls to do " lurid and despicable" acts on cam for other foreigners.
Welll, the few web cam girls I have known were generally happy to get their kit off. The few who I have known have also gone into the line of work as a easy way to make money. And finally the few who I have known who did this reckoned it was way better than standing in an SM cashiers counter all day.
Ah well, get rid of the foreigners and the Philippines should have no problems at all. Right. LOL

Interesting that you should mention this, I was in CDO when this happened, the premises was roughly three blocks away from Mrs Spamhogs relatives. Of course the old bamboo telegraph was chattering. Heres what I got:
This "sex Den" was exposed when one of the girls complained about a discrepancy in her 'pay check', then all of a sudden all those lurid sex acts became dispicable. Since the police didn't know about it's existence, therefore were not receiving their fair share of the loot, of course they had to make a raid in order to teach the wicked foreigner who is really in charge.
That is how things work in this country, you can get away with whatever you want as long as the conga line of officials and police get their nick. If not, expect lights, cameras and TV patrol to decend upon you in their righteous indignation.

If a girl becomes your GF and leaves the bar and goes back to her island to live, What is a reasonable amount of money to support her? How much more if they have a baby?

Pray tell why do you want to do this?
I'm new to the Philippines but not new to the p4p scene. I've learned the game from clubs in S. Korea while I was stationed at Camp Casey. I miss the LBFM's so its time to take a trip to AC.
How do the bars in the Philippines compare to bars catering to GI's in Korea? I know there will be many differences, wondering what they are.
I'm curious to wether my age will matter to the ladies? Not that it's going to stop me from going but I'm in my early 20's. I never had any problems in the past but again that wasn't in the Philippines. Most of the Ladies in Korea preferred the younger guys due to them being "Young, Dumb and Full of Cum". Guess it was easier to get the younger guys to part with their hard earned tax payer money. I'm starting to think most mongers are senior citizens living in the Phils (No Offense) just trying to educate on what to expect.
Any idea what the climate would be like during July and August?
I have hrd PI is a place that has one of the most rains and typhoons.
Any info on this would be appreciated.
Rgds,
Max

I think the average customer in AC is 40+. There are guys all ages though. They mostly judge you on how much you spend. Better looking guys can get better looking girls easier.
What does it cost in Korea? Is it LT or ST. I have a friend moving there soon, so would like to tell him there is some opportunity there.
