I am pondering sending a little $ to help someone get the minimum education they need to be able to get out of the business ~ basically become literate enough to be employable doing something else. Of course I know this hardly, if ever, really happens, as the $ can never be equalled, and if earning enough to support siblings is someone's goal in life, they are hardly going to look a gift horse in the mouth.
Yes, I know common sense should tell me to just forget it.

Of course those numbers depend on the girl/bar/clientele, but I am surprised (though I guess I shouldn't be) that a non 'freelancer' could make so much. Compared to working back in the fields, or in a factory, that's a humungous amount.
Naturally, I know zilch compared to someone living in-country, but I read recently that people representing factory workers are seeking a raise in minimum monthly pay from around $50 to around $90. However 'cheap' Cambo seems to tourists, I suspect prices for everything bar food and transport are skyrocketing for people trying to survive, and support an extended family.

It's your money and you are free to do as you obviously please. However, the results of philanthropy may be more measurable by sending the $ directly to the institution/school as opposed to sending it directly to 'that someone' who may or may not use the $ as you intended it to be used, just a thought.
Actually, by telling your girl that idea, that you want to pay the money directly to the school - if she balked at that, it would be a pretty big red flag on the whole situation.
If you are out of the country, how will you be able to check and make sure she isn't still working?
This is actually a classic scenario, and your girl might be telling the truth, but another truth is that this kind of thing is often done more as a way to make extra money -- basically, they play a good story as to why you should send some money, but it's just that, a story intended to get you to send money. They don't quit the bar, never had any intentoin to, and of course don't go sign up for any school.
p.s. There was a post a few months back of a guy who was out of the country and about to return, wanted expats here to check in on her to make sure she wasn't on the game, as she was telling him. They did. She was. Friend of one of the members here had even taken her home in the previous week, if I remember right.

I hear you all the way, and you are probably right. But she never asked for anything at all. Didn't voluntarily tell me her life story - teased it out of her. She also has no idea that I want to help.

Look, cali2 is not a monger orientated hotel at all in my humble opinion.
I have spent a lot of time there and most guests are not mongers, many older straight couples stay there.
The bar is a hangout for all sorts of local characters as well as free lancers and also restaurant girls on a night out.
As for girls and their incomes-hmm.
Wages in the bar are $60 to $80 a month and a dollar a lady drink to the girl, no share of the barfine I believe.
$300 would be a very good month but better looking, more popular girls can earn up to $500.
Pretty girls can have many sponsors and make hundreds of dollars a month without working hard.
Girls at LCC and mikado don't get a wage and many are penniless.
Cambodia is not a cheap country that is why everyone is corrupt.
Breakfast in the market can be a dollar, a moto to and from work is up to two dollars a day, so there $90 gone before paying for the room, power, water, phone cards etc etc.
They live up to five or six a room and a cheap room is $50 and they are hard to come by.
Many bar girls are looking for a way out, many Cambodians study after hours.
They study computers and english mostly, one sees security guards and hotel staff studying often.
If one can afford to send money then send it but don't have stars in your eyes.

LCC and Mikado seem to be the lowest rung of the barang bar ladder. Girls there seemed to have the roughest lives, and I doubt if either place brings in much income to the owners for drinks. Not a lot of drinking going down there ....
I think the girls get $15 of the $20, but are lucky to get a customer a day, if that.

Sadly I find that to be true and their least endearing (if understandable) trait. (As far as I can gather, it was not like that before Pol Pot, so you *could* say perhaps that we owe them.) Compare Kampuchea, say, with Brasil, where the poorest favela kid still exudes a great sense if pride. Khmers have so often lost what it is to be human.* Their sense of pride is linked to the ancient monuments - the only thing that has survived. And their faith sees them through a lot of hardship (look at Filipinos, who are poor but have suffered less, and can be quite miserable sods). Preah Vihear can be quite instructive - I see now why they are so uptight about the Thais trying to screw them again over it.
*And yet in another sense they can teach us this very thing - for they know what it is like to be human and no more, whereas it can be very hard for the average Westerner to define him/herself except in terms of material things. In this way, perhaps we need them as much as they need us, or more.
Contrary to popular opinion though, I still wouldn't rate Kampuchea as the shagfest capital of SE Asia. Which is why this board is so helpful - just on the simple matter of getting laid. ;)

Yeah I admit I have no idea really, only mentioned it cuz I saw it listed often in mongering threads like these as a recommended place to go, esp if you wanted to be on the riverfront, and mostly in the days before Flamingo became the popular favorite mongerer hotel. I never did stay there. I did go check out their old location but ended up staying elsewhere (really didnt like the rooms layout, that whole no-window thing, esp when you're paying riverfront higher prices). 2 blocks off the river and prices are half, and the rooms all have windows.

Agree as I also don't find Cambo to be on the top of my list for shagging (but still is one of the cheapest places for a simple shag though).
Having said that, I would still rate Cambo a better place for FS shagging than Vietnam (don't mean to offend anyone of you guys that are ex-pats in Viet) but I did a brief several days tour of Vietnam and it was extremely difficult for a FS shag and the ones that will do FS are very expensive and forget about all my hotels I stayed in Viet as they were definitely NOT GF. And don't even get me started on all the rip off FL on motobikes there. Not the easiest place to get laid, a handjob-yes, getting laid-NO.

Agreed 100% with you there mate, I've been living in Saigon for over 2yrs now and its just a headfuck trying to get laid, unless you know where to go.

Le Crycee: The girls want $20. Plus the bar fine (can't remember amount). I use the upstair rooms. Because NGO problems, only known customeers and their guests are allowed to use the upstair rooms (Previously the owner changed the beds to couches; now he put back the beds). The cost will be $20 for the girl; $5 for the room; and the mandatory $3 ladies drink. The girl pays $5 to the bar and she gets $1 for the drink. Hence she gets $16 for the hour (actually it is 50 minutes at the most; the professional hour).
Remember the good old days when the girls were $10 each including the rooms.
Solomon: The girls want $20 plus $5 for the room next door at Samoly guest house. Actually it is $25. For 2 girls, they still want $25 a piece. I recommend the room with the mirrors on top and on the sides; I like watching. But look at the sheets first; sometimes it looks disgusting; maybe used. If so, ask for another room. The girls get slightly more here than at Le Crycee.
Heard owner Dave got out of jail. Heard he had to pay $20K or $30K. Named was changed from Mikado because of his past legal problems. Before he went to jail, I saw the Mikado video on the internet, and I instantaneously recognized it. LOL!
