I finally went down again to Tj and this time took public transportation like I had been talking about before. More like annoying people about it.
Drove to the Santa Ana Depot where I took the Amtrak to Downtown San Diego, then the trolley to the San Ysidro border. All I can say is, avoid doing this. It's the equivalent of hassling with with an airport to reach a destination.
The waiting, sitting around annoying loud kids, the waiting, getting harrased by ticket takers and more waiting. This is how it all went down for those of you interested. Don't read this unless you want to hear about a long annoying trip...
I drove to the Santa Ana depot which takes about 30 minutes from my house, I got there late and decided I should just drive to Tj instead since the next train wouldn't pull out for another 2 hours. I wasn't going to wait 2 hours. Since I was already there I looked around the Amtrak station just to get the feel of the place for the next time. Well they announced the train was 15 minutes late. So I bought a 2 way ticket. $40 bucks!
I waited the long 15 minutes listening to useless chatter from old people. Finally the train arrives, someone gives out the tip that the last train cab are the best bet since they tend to be empty. I entered the second to last train and it was full, walked to the last train and found some empty seats. Then the same old people sat in the chairs next to me including some family with loud annoying kids. I had to put up with this for 2 hours while enjoying some scenery.
Finally I reach San Diego. According to the schedule they where supposed to stop at Old Town San Diego first. They skip it, but didn't mention it. I had to get off the train and ask where I was and what happened to the Old Town stop.
Now I am at the Santa Fe Depot in San Diego. Wasn't sure how or where to get a boarding ticket. I ask a guy and he points me to some machines. I pay for the all day pass of $5 bucks. At least the trolley was on schedule and arrived on time. Luckily there was a guy boarding with me, cause you have to press a button to get into the trolley and he pressed it. I would have completely overlooked it and just stood in front of the trolley door waiting for the door to open and it would have left me behind looking like a fool.
I'm on the trolley, too many people so nowhere to sit. After a few stops some people get off and I get a free booth to myself. Again annoying people and teenagers scream aloud to each other. Surprisingly no one ever checks the tickets. Looked like anyone can get on or off and ride for free. 45 minutes for this ride. I finally reach the San Ysidro border. So looking back, I left my house at about 10 am and reached the Zona at 1 pm. That's 3 hours!!
I have my fun at Tj and decide to return to the train madness.
An Amtrak train is scheduled to leave back to L.A. at 6:20 pm. So I figure if I head back to border at 5:30pm I can take a trolley and make it to the station on time for the 6:20. WRONG! Huge line at the border. I don't make it through the line until it's too late. I still take the trolley. On the way this time they do check the tickets. My ticket comes with two stubs, but I lost the bottom stub and the guy starts harrasing me and telling me he was going to kick me off the train. So I'm like, "if its such a big deal, I'll get off and buy another ticket." But he lets it go. I get to the amtrak station at 6:30. Too late for the train. And next one doesn't leave until 8:20pm! That's two hours of waiting!! So I wait, reading a newspaper i found on the trolley. Finally I get on the train, reach the depot, drive home and get there at 12am.
The trip back was like 6 hours! No way I'm doing this again. I spent more time travelling than I spent in the Zona. At the Santa Ana depot, I noticed they had a bus line named Tres Estrellas. This bus goes straight to TJ. They leave every hour of everyday even Weekends. Their fare is 36 bucks total. Next time I'm gonna have to try this bus.

The train thing definitely sounds like a hassle, but that's what happens when you're not in control of the situation. I'd venture to guess that taking the bus would only be marginally better. I think you're better off driving, you can control (aside from border crossing) the timing of when you want to go and leave, plus gas prices aren't that bad anymore.
In SD for meetings, looks like Sunday will open up around 11 am. I'm going to drive down around noon. If there are brethren to be found, pm me. This will be my fourth trip to the zona.
I haven't been to TJ in a long time, will most of the girls in the bars take 600 pesos?
Ok, my first Tijuana report, and it goes a little something like this. I flew into San Diego today from Florida. Ughh long ass trip and got a room at the Holiday Inn on the Bay. Even though I was completly tired I had to do the trek into Tijuana. I had no Idea where I was going or what the hell I was getting myself into, But after reading the reports and directions from the senior reporters on here I actually had a nice easy trip. I walked to the santa Fe Depot a couple blocks from the hotel. And noticed when the Blue Line trolley arrived everyone just walked on, so I followed. The Blue line will bring you sraight to the border, about 15 stops and your there. I didn't even pay for the trolley! No one checked the tickets. So I arrive, follow the group of people over the bridge, stop and get a 5. 00 Viagra, per someones last post. Thank you: o) and off to the strip. I printed a map of the Hot spots also that I found on past reports. I walked around not having a clue, but I made off like I did and no one botherd me. Went into Hong Kong, girls were ok, watched the lesbian show, nothing special, by now I'm a little buzzed and after popping the blue pill, feelin a little frisky, I stopped by the other big club, Adelitas. The girls in there were fuckin smokin! My eyes couldn't stop from scanning. Found one that I wanted smokin hot blonde / brunnette mixed with a smokin bod. But I couldnd get to her too many guys talking to her. Next thing I know a good looking Brunette standing off to my right starts grabbing my shit, lets just say it wasnt long due to my blue little friend we were in route up stairs. 12. 00 for the room 60 for everything and hopped into a cab back to the border. Jumped back on the trolley which I didn't pay for and back to the Hotel. I would just like to thank all the senior members that have posted that made My experience very easy, since I was going into another county and didn't have a clue! Just to think I paid 250. 00 for an american girl the night before I traveled and it wasnt even close the the 60. 00 experience I had!
Tijuana is a good place. Will return one more time before I fly home!

Mostly I tried the train trip just to see what it was like. Turned out to be bad experience. Not by any means something that should be avoided by all cause, but I would only recommend it as a last resort.
As for the fun times I had, it lead to an STD. That's right, I got the flu during sex. I have huge headache and runny nose right now and have to keep taking cough medicine. Damn I hate this, I always get a cold after returning from TJ. It never fails. I'm gonna have to start rubbing alcohol on the girls tits before I suck on them. I know a few girls don't even shower after a session. Who knows how many other guys have had those tits in their mouths before me. Next time I'm gonna demand that they shower first. Or just stop sucking on their tits. No, I won't stop doing that. lol.

What made you think you could get from the border to the train station in 50 minutes!! :eek: The trolley trip itself is over 30 minutes. I think my record time through the border at 5:00-ish is like 25 minutes. That's cutting things awfully close.

What is the solution??[/QUOTE]Try taking a couple 500mg of vitamin C the day before, day of and day after a TJ trip.
Start the meds that work for you, on the way to TJ if you are susceptible to colds (drinking alcohol does neutralize antibiotics ).
Seriously the most important thing you can do is keep "your own hands" clean. Touching the doors ,chairs ,table and such in any crowded area can cause you to pick up a germ or virus (hands transfer it to your mouth).
Most store have those little travel bottle of clear (mostly alcohol) hand sanitizer ($1) (women carry them in their purse). Use a little every half hour or so ( it will air dry quickly) and especially before you touch anything that you are going to eat.
So, by building up your immune system, taking meds to kill it at the start and keeping your hands clean (really important), your chances of getting sick are greatly reduced.
If you choice to rub your stuff down with the hand sanitizer after arriba like I do, be prepared a one minute sting. Nothing as bad as an aftershave lotion sting/burn but you know it is there for a short minute sometimes.
Thanks to the contributions posted here, I decided to try the Intercalifornias bus line in Santa Ana for $28 roundtrip leaving at 9:15pm. I took a nap and soon realized how quickly we were at the border at 10: 45pm. Took CJ's advice and decided not to try a casa de cambio at this hour, eventhough the exchange rate is at 14:1.
Took a Libre taxi for $3 to Adelitas and saw many hot chicas. But since this was going to be a 6 hour party for me before heading back I decided to take it slow and enjoy the atmosphere. I went to the delicious taco stand on the westside corner for the best tacos in the area for a dollar each.
Walked through the alley and saw some cuties but not my favorites. Went into Hongkong enjoyed the party atmosphere. Multiple girl on girl shows with other chicas dancing about. Got a bunch of dollar bills for the full hands on touch and feel on some gorgeous chicas.
Tried some of the other clubs and walked around. Felt safe but kept to myself and aware of my surroundings. Brushed many peddlers off and didn't see too many rateros.
Had 1 chica from adelitas and 1 from HK. Good food, drinks, entertainment and 2 GFE's for a night I would have spent at the local strip joint with blue balls. Took the bus back, slept, and like clockwork within 90 minutes I was back in Santa Ana. I had a very good time.
Adelitas chica was $50 and $12 for the room. HK chica was $60 and $11 for the room. Both sessions there was no knock on the door.

I guess I'm not alone because I always, and I mean ALWAYS develop a cold after visiting Tj. Next time I should take some hand sanitizer and mouth wash and use them every half hour. lol

I didn't want to get off at Old Town San Diego. But according to the schedule it was supposed to stop at Old Town before Downtown but it didnt. So when the train reached the stop they conductor said, "Now arriving at San Diego!" So I was like, "Wait, which one? Old Town or Downtown San Diego?" I needed to verify because the conductor also said, "all passengers must exit the train at this point." I didn't know which stop I was in.
Business class doesn't get better seating, just priority seating. But from what I saw heading back home, there was more people waiting in line on the business class than regular. It made no difference to me either way.
I was HOPING i would make to the train station under 50 minutes. But that's all right, I'm not doing the train trip again. Way too much of a hassle. :(

It is common. There are good reasons.
1. Americans live in a sanitized environment compared to Mexcicans. Mexicans have more resistance to viruses and bacteria it seems.
2. Bacteria is everywhere, nobody washes their hands (well, almost nobody) and the foods you eat from those taco stands (especially those bacon wrapped hotdogs) are nasty.
3. The girl is probably sick.
4. There is probably a lot of sickness in the club when it's packed.
5. The hotel rooms are NOT clean, they are full of bacteria and body fluids.
6. There is no reason number 6.
7. You are probably spending more time in the cold than usual.
The only way to avoid exposure is to come in a clean-room suit but that's not practical right?
Get into the habit of washing your hands OFTEN. Every door knob or door handle you touch is laced with bacteria. Stay away from the taco carts. The airborne bacteria and germs alone should be reason enough to stay away especially if it's been windy. If you MUST eat something, go to a restaurant.
