There's truth there!
When I was young and very horny, I put beautiful girls on a pedestal, and although I managed to get more than my share of pussy, I was always sweaty handed around them, and It was hard to have a normal conversation with them, or a sense of humor, because all I saw them as was sex objects I was desperate to fuck. (I functioned normally in all other areas, I was married for many years, LOL, so I don't need any cheap psychoanalysis).
Mongering helped me reset my clock, so that I saw women, all women, as just people, with warts and all, and had no trouble sharing a laugh and relaxing and actually being indifferent to some truly beautiful women. Mongering did wonders for my attitudes and success rate with normal women.
I think my experience is the reverse of yours. . What I took away from mongering is the conviction that money is the basis for relationships with women. . Or at least financial security for themselves and their children. . This may not apply to women who are professionals who have their own careers and are career driven.
I am not a romantic like one frequent poster who believes that women everywhere desire him for himself. There is always an ulterior motive, even if it is not apparent.
I also think mongering is the reverse of porn because it involves relating to a real person with real needs in real time and not with an artificial image created on an industrial production in which the consumer plays no part. I agree with what you say about warts and all, though I never did mentally put women on a pedestal.
French did not help me because Haitians speak creole, so that didn't get me anywhere.
You are correct. All the Haitians you will meet on the North Coast speak Kreyol as their first language. The tiny proportion of Haitians who speak French as their first language are from the educated upper and middle classes and are unlikely to be on the game in the DR.
However a large proportion of the chicas learned some French in school, and even if they learned none, 98% of Kreyol words are derived from French. Most people who speak French (and my experience is with French Canadians not Frenchmen) have found it a distinct advantage with haitianas. Even my very rusty schoolboy French (unused for fifty plus years) was a help.
If you found French no use, I would guess that you spoke too rapidly or, more likely, you were dealing with haitianas who had been here some time and learned some English. These are not the ones NB23 should be aiming for. Once they have been here 3 to 12 months they have acquired all the Dominican bullshit. The best ones are those still with sand on their ankles from having waded across the Rio Masacre.
Is it easy to find fellow Americans or Canadians to hang out with?
Yes. Especially in Jan which is a busy time. (Don't leave booking at Blackbeards too late!)
At Blackbeards you have little choice but to socialize as you are thrown together on a fairly small property. My stay there, talking to guys was a big part of the experience and the reason I did not get bored after two weeks. Your main problem might be avoiding some bore who latches on to you, but this is unlikely.
One advantage of socializing is you can maybe find guys to share taxis, making outings affordable which would otherwise be outside your tight budget.
In Sosua, you would be wise to learn the ropes from ex-pats or regular visitors. But be cautious. Not all gringos are angels. Avoid like the plague heavy drinkers, drug-takers (that includes weed) and macho types who prefer to fight rather than walk away. If they get themselves into trouble they might drag you down too. The police have a "birds of a feather" philosophy.
Don't let guys talk you into going outside your comfort zone until you know them and the area well after two or three trips. If you stay in populated area you will be OK.
Sosua sounds tempting man but honestly if I enjoy the DR that sounds like a round 2 trip.
Although I think you are wise to start at Blackbeards, you could consider staying in Sosua (I would recommend Casa Cayena) for the final three nights. By that time you won't have a lot of money left to get stolen or scammed out of!
I'm looking forward to it!
Start learning a little Spanish now. Half hour a day until January and you can enhance your enjoyment when there. And start thinking about prices in DR pesos rather than dollars now so it comes naturally by January. That can save you money.

I don't know about a sport fucker "relating to a real person". It's just a business transaction, like shopping or a restaurant. Her "real needs" are money, unless like me, you have found a great long term relationship with a regular, and there's quite a bit more to it.
But I get nothing but crap here in this forum, for claiming she's a real "person", even while they themselves are looking for, or giving advice on, how to find a "non pro" or a "semi pro", LOL.
Go figure!
(And porn IS cheap!)
Duranandpaul wow that sounds amazing man! Is it easy to find fellow Americans or Canadians to hang out with? This is a solo trip so just wondering if fellow mongers are laid back. Sosua sounds tempting man but honestly if I enjoy the DR that sounds like a round 2 trip. I first want to dip my foot in the water and just be in a closed relaxed enviorment with girls and variety. My plan is to not sleep with the same girl the whole trip unless she's outstanding. I'm looking forward to it! Reading all this is getting my excited glad I finally made an account and getting all this feedback I've literally been lurking for years.
As you can see, your original post brought out a lot of advice on how to spend your time and your money!
While all advice is good, you can see that mongers here differ greatly among themselves, in attitudes towards our sport, and it would be impossible to take all their advice to heart.
So choose what suits YOU! Other than that, keep an open mind and be open to new experiences. Not everybody down there is trying to screw you. Just as we mongers differ greatly, so do the chicas!

(And porn IS cheap!)
Porn is mostly free. To me, discovering the personality of the girl is what makes it hot sex. If she turns out to be dull and just wants to get the deed done, get her money, and get out, then there is hardly any value added over masturbation. Non pros are more interesting, because presumably they have some aspirations beyond getting their pro card.
In any intimate encounter of this kind both participants are bringing their personalities into play, and the interaction will determine the quality of the encounter. It is a two-way process.

If you stay at Casa Cayena, you'll have several mongers sitting around during breakfast, a mix of new visitors and old pros. If you stay at Plaza Europa, the little bar out front usually has a few guys hanging out. Chez Mon, across from Rumbas is another spot where there were usually quite a few guys hanging out.
Blackbeard's is a good place to start, but I wouldn't recommend 10 days. Stay 5 to 7 days then head to Sosua.

I was just talking to a Haitian taxi driver yesterday and had quite a good conversation in Freyol, combining my somewhat limited Kreyol with French to plug some gaps. Kreyol is mostly French spelled wrong.

It just goes to show that your attitude is your destiny.
He was cheerful, polite and curious and appreciative and so everybody wanted to help him.
I find life is a lot like that!
It is a two-way process.
Yep, we give and the chicas take, LOL.
All kidding aside I agree with what you said. For me I can compromise (to a point) on a girls' looks if her attitude is good.
And thanks guys for a lot of useful info posted lately. Already started brushing up on my Spanish, a few minutes a day and I hope to at least be able get by some useful phrases as well as know whether I'm ordering pork or dog meat for dinner (not that I'd be able to tell the difference as they taste similar, LOL). I'll be finalizing my plans this week. Looks like I may forgo SD and just hit the northern coast for this trip; just 2-3 days at BB, a few in Sosua, maybe a 2 nights at FOD (take one for the team as recent reports indicate they've slid down hill) and then either back to Sosua or to STI.

I meant to say that most of the Haitians in Sosua speak french mixed with creole and can't speak french without adding words in creole. It was no use in getting me pussy LOL. And you are right, that's because the average hooker isn't educated. I was also hesitating between blackbeards and sosua. But speaking french was the deciding factor of me going to Sosua. I went to the German Bar, but the only women that spoke good french were not my type.
