To me brazil is still TOP in the mongering world but Colombia is the first runner up for sure I will be giving Cali a visit very soon.

what you experienced in the clubs are the remnants of the party scene from cali's "glory days" back in the 80's. people talk about medellin and the escobar years but the cali cartel at that time was possibly even bigger. cali is traditionally a salsa town, and back then top tier salsa musicians and singers from new york, miami, and puerto rico would be flown down in private jets to gig at the clubs the kingpins owned. a salsa musician i know who did some of that work had some interesting tales to tell me one evening! that era was the peak of cali's party scene.
but cali is still a very fun party town with insanely beautiful women. putting aside the fun, glitzy, fake cali, i also find the regular folks to be genuinely warm and friendly, more so than your average paisa or rolo (bogotano).
it's true it's hotter but i don't think it's as bad as people say (certainly not even close to cartagena, leave that tourist trap for the italians, israelis, and spaniards! ). and the cool pacific breezes at night are just wonderful, perfect going-out weather, as long as it's not pouring cats and dogs which is kind of scary when it happens at night!
i also think it's not as dangerous as some people put it despite the bad rap. statistically speaking, the risk of something bad happening is admittedly higher but with medellin worsening somewhat over the past year, the comparison doesn't seem to look all that scary anymore. this isn't a place though, to "let your guard down" obviously. following the security protocols that people have discussed here at length is essential.
finally, if it's true that the castle appears to be in a very private setting without nosy neighbors in tall apartment buildings able to peer in from above, then that sounds very encouraging!
I am regular in Medellin, but next month will be my first time in cali. I can stay at the Sheraton for free, however I was wondering is that a bad place for a first timer to stay who doesnt speak Spanish. I used to stay at the mansion, but since I have been to medellin so many time I have just started staying at the Sheraton in El Pobaldo.
So is the Cali Sheraton a good place for a first trip to Cali?

I enjoyed the Castle Cali as well. However, having been to Cali like 12 times before I really don't use his staff's translating service and I usually go to several out of the way places. There are about 70 casas/night clubs that offer girls in Cali. It really is mind boggling.
I have had 1 girl at Floras Frescas for $150, 000 in house. I also took 1 out and the take out fee was $70, 000 and the girl was $200, 000 TLN. There actually is a 10: 30 show and then a 12:30 show. I guess if it's light on guys in the place they fore go the 10: 30 show. It is amazing how they put absolutely no money into the dumpy main area and rooms there. Other than the show however, I really don't care for the place. BTW- You didn't mention that there is an entrance fee of $15, 000 which includes a drink.
At Escoces I have enjoyed the girls and agree the place is very lively compared to Floras Frescas. You also didn't mention that all the girls walk around in their lingerie so I am hoping that this is still the case. I had a great take out session with a girl here but it's been awhile & I don't remember how much take out fee was but the girl was $150, 000 TLN.
Like I said I was there the week before you and La Clinica de Dr. Amor had about about 35 girls in the line up on Saturday around noon. Around the corner, my buddy Barbuja (Bubbles) had 11 girls. A couple I had already known from other venues. BTW-The place is actually called "Ropa de Bebe".
At Farraon (Pharoahs) there were 4 HOT! Chicas on a Tuesday night I had to do a thin blond in a white bikini. She was great and the facilities were not that bad seeing as we got there just as the girls were showing up and the place was clean. I think it was $50, 000 pesos for 1/2 hour cause my buddy surprised me and paid for my session and told me to hit the bricks with the girl so I didn't ask. And yes the other girls were sub par but they seemed to please the locals that were there. Only down side is they only sell Poker beer and hard booze. I hate Poker and I don't drink the hard stuff.
Las Profesionales I have only tried once. And that was 2 years ago. At the time the blond you mentioned was in Europe. The real madam (and older lady) who runs the business showed up with the book. I chose a gal at $150, 000 and she was prompt and very professional but did give good animated GFE. So I too would recommend their service and you are right, SPLURGE at least once and get a kick ass model. I will do so the next time I use their service.
Praga is pretty cool and seems to be Cali's version of Mango's albeit quite smaller and less or no real fanfare. What I do like is there are actual dance floors to dance (upper & lower) unlike at Mango's. But it seems like it is the place to be. Cool that you were fortuanate to hit it on the night of the Best Ass Contest. Can't beat that! I've been to Praga's only twice, I like the place but there are so many venues in Cali that it is hard to keep coming back. I often do not go Mango's on my visits to Medellin either.
All in all sounds like you had a great time in Cali as I did as well the week before. Again thanks for the report.

yeah the brasileiras are much better in the sack vs. the colombianas. but again. everyone is has different experience.

Are you going to Cali with a friend? Or traveling alone?
If you are going with to Cali with a friend and can speak spanish. Youll be fine!
If you or him do not speak spanish. I highly suggest you give juan carlos a call and he can arrange everything for you. Its not that expensive. He will work out a deal for you.

I love the adventures in colombia.
Day 2 in Colombia. We landed in Cali late and it poured for a long time. The streets were flooded and it must have been 15c outside in the rain. We checked into our prearranged hotel, or what's left of it(this place was so old). Place is called hotel imeperial, at 60k per night, not sure if I can ask for anything more(althou I am still not sure if its just me or there is no hot water).
So we grabbed dinner at Da' agusto next door. Awesome chicken or beef for 14k!! Was stuffed. Went back to the room to chill a little bit. Got really boring after finishing csi Miami in spanish so decided to do some quick research on my blackberry. Downloaded the very well documented Cali list and off to Pharaos we go. Its now tuesday night at 9pm.
From my hotel to Pharaos took less than 5minutes. The taxi however insisted there is a 5k minimum charge. Fine, pay that and also 5k entry fee into Pharaos. (By the way the address is slightly off, should a couple houses down than the Cali list).
So the waiter sits me down, let's me know that there is only hard liquor tonight that they are freshly out of beer. Fine, I was never a beer guy so got some watered down whiskey on the rocks. The girls started to come to you one by one introducing themself. In the line up, I saw about total of 9 girls. 4 over weight, 3 not my type and 2 that should have stayed home. Only one girl that wasn't my type looked bangable, but all she did was to sit under the giant porno TV. For the entire 30 minutes I was there the tv had porno playing, to spice up the night I guess. I finished my drink paid 15k for the drink and left.

As many of you know Cali is often thought of as being a dangerous city to visit. Well just like in ANY big city it is if you do stupid things while your there. Like getting so drunk that you step out in front of moving vehicles. Or not being aware that there are bad places that you should not go wandering around at night fully loaded with gold chains and expensive looking watches.
Aside from that, Cali, like ANY big city, can be enjoyed without any fanfare or woes if a level and sensible head is kept. It especially can be enjoyed more for the first timer if you have a knowledgeable guide.
Juan Carlos Rivera is such a guide. I have spoken before of Juan who runs the Castle Cali in the upscale Santa Monica area of Cali. Juan Carlos Rivera is one of the few Colombian businessman I can call a good friend as well.
Juan is comparable to Robert of the Medellin Mansion/Castillo as to his willingness to help out a client as far as he can bend backwards.
So, as usual, I visited Cali for a short stay before moving on to Medellin. I love both places and both are quite unique. I sent Juan Carlos an email through his website jccali.com and got an immediate response from Juan saying he was happy I was coming.
Juan Carlos and his staff make you feel at home immediately when arriving. The Castle Cali has more of a home feel than that of a hotel as well.
Juan's daughter was visiting from the states where she lives and they had a huge B-day party for her and Juan invited me to the festivities. Beautiful people, good food, great music!
Along the way of course there are the Calenas to enjoy as well! Juan has many girls as friends that are available and he has many pictures for guests to choose from. He also can guide you around Cali for day and night time ventures.
Safety is one of Juan Carlos's mainstays and he will do all he can to keep you out of harms way. As I said before only the foolish really put themselves at risk. What I mean is like bringing home street walkers or seeking out drugs on dark streets, wandering around intoxicated, etc.
Anyway, the 6 days I spent at the Castle Cali were just as eventful as the last and just as memorable.
In my humble opinion, Calenas are different than Paisas in one aspect, they are more passionate and easy going and more approachable than the Paisas. I really don't know why that is but just as the saying goes "Cali es Cali".
