Thanks! [/QUOTE]If you are staying in an all-inclusive hotel and spending most of your time there, then I imagine you can pay for everything in US dollars (someone please confirm this). You will probably not get a good exchange rate but as you will be paying through the nose for everything anyway that hardly makes much difference.

If you are spending most of your time and money in the "real" DR (outside of the AI gulag) then you should change your money into pesos. The reason is that most Dominicans are incapable of doing the simplest math in their head, and also cannot be expected to keep up with the fluctuating exchange rates of all the currencies used by Punta Cana visitors (US$, Can$, UK£, euro). To ensure they don't lose out they will therefore "round up" bigtime.

The example I always quote, as I have heard it in real life many times, is:

Monger to Puta: How much for ST?

Puta: $50 dollars (around 1900 pesos)

Monger: I don't have dollars. How about 1500 pesos?

Puta: OK, let's go.

The point being she had 1500 in her own mind all the time. Being double what she gets from her local customers she is more than happy.

Same principle applies to all transactions, not just buying sex.

I cannot understand what your objection to converting to pesos would be anyway.

This is especially so in the DR where the exchange is approximately 38 to 1. You will lose greatly on the exchange if you pay in dollars.

After years of controversy and the expected opposition of the Catholic Church, the Chamber of Deputies is set to debate legislation to create red light districts in the Dominican Republic, aimed at halting rising prostitution practiced near the country's historical monuments.

The initiative by deputy (opposition PRD- San José de Ocoa) Esther Minyetti stipulates controls in streets with a historical and cultural character, where women offer sexual services daily.

The bill to create the 'red zones' would also require that sexual workers carry a card issued by the Public Health Ministry, where it specifies the prostitute's state of health.

It also commits the government agencies to set policies which lead to the sexual workers' social reintegration and into the labor force.

The proposed legislation would make the Government responsible for building houses or designate appropriate places to lodge female prostitutes and guarantee their personal security and health.

It notes that sexual workers ply their services next work centers, streets and avenues, where they don't set a good example for society.

If voted into Law, Minyetti's legislation would fine the sexual workers who don't adhere to its norms, an amount of not more than two minimum wages.

What bus companies can I get a round trip from Sosua to Santo Domingo? How long is the trip and how much would it cost?

Little to choose between them for comfort (both good) and price. Departure times and location of terminuses at both ends might decide the choice for you.

What do you mean by a round trip? Same day return is out of the question, it's a five hour trip one way. If you mean a discount for booking a return, I don't think they do that (but I stand to be corrected), and you might want to leave your return flexible anyway (unless you are booking on a national holiday when buses can fill up quickly).

Price: I am guessing 500 pesos one way. I am sure someone will chip in with more accurate info but it is certainly very cheap.

To threadjack, I always feel these two bus companies are among the very few First World standard entities in the DR although they operate at Third World prices. Anybody got any other suggestions?

What is not First World standard is the dumbass auto-correct feature on this board. Is there any way I can turn it off when posting?

[/QUOTE]Last time I made that trip I paid 270 pesos been renting cars for the last two year's but I know it's not 500 pesos 15 bucks is way to much either way it's very cheap. Charles your on point.

Took the road from Santo Domingo to Sosua 3. 5 hrs from SDQ Airport to downtown Sosua. Very easy ride with light traffic. Make sure to buy gas before you get on highway near airport, there are No GAS STATIONS (75 miles) before you get to Nagua.

Hi people, I'm sure this question has been answered somewhere in this site I just can't find recent info.

I've been to Cuba and from what I'm reading it has changed immensly from how it used to be, crackdown on chicas police etc (though I loved every minute of it and would definitly go again). I don't really go for high class pros. For example in Habana I hung out with normal girls (I assumeD they were) who took me out and we partied hard no favours passed between us.

What would you say is the main difference are:

Is DR more expensive but you have more choice in terms of chicas?

From some threads there are issues with weapons, do a lot of people carry guns and is crime in some areas rife?

One thing that seems to be a large difference is that in Cuba there are numerous casa particular does DR have anything similar to this in terms of alternative accomodation to hotels and I don't mean the cabanas.

When in Cuba I didn't witness any crime though it exists everywhere I know, what areas are no go areas in DR? I saw a short video where 2 guys filmed a murder can't remember where though.

Which of these areas would be described as the best places in terms of the quality of the chicas:. Sosua, Puerto Plata, Santa Domingo or Boca Chica?

The chances of a regular guy getting some action with a non pro girl is it difficult with basic spanish language skills?

I just tried to book two rooms at the New Garden for the week of July 11th. 15th and several of the days (weekdays in JULY) they were sold out. Yeah, Sosua is dying allright as I'm sure it's the locals that booked all those rooms.

I speak basic Spanish. I have spoken it since high school, but primarily use the present indicative, imperfect, regular preterit, conditional, and future tenses. They are all far easier than English. If you have at least a week to kill and can hold real conversations in basic Spanish, then you can meet and date a non-pro. You can certainly do so in Santo Domingo. The girls that I met spoke NO English, and I mean NO English. We visited historical sites, went to the mall, and things like that. It did not cost any real money. For example, the mall date was less than USD $10 total, and that included the cab home as the buses stopped running. Forget about Sosua, as I have yet to meet a true non-pro there. You will need game, and the ability to explain why you are in DR. I was "interviewing for a teaching job."

I hung out at his apartment several nights with girls and walked around places I would of been scared shitless without him. It was a really cool cultural experience and he has a ton of woman on his phone. PM me for details. By the way I cant tell you how much hell I gave him constantly for that picture of himself!
